Just a quick question... are there any girls here? I see girly icons but I'm still unsure. D:
Err, no, people are disagreeing with you on some details. Just because people don't agree with your argument doesn't mean they are overlooking it.
Speaking of overlooking, you are overlooking most posts in this thread. Let me recap for you: most people here are agreeing with feminists! Women should have equal rights. The problem is, a lot of women want all the benefits, but not the drawbacks. I guess the word "feminist" has become that definition, because.. well.. those type of feminists scream the loudest.
It's kind of pointless to protest against generalisation, which thinking all the feminists are the extreme kind is, and then do the same in the last line I quoted.
SO true. Just because we respond differently to it doesn't mean we are judging you for it. I usually reply "Cool." when a player tells me she's a girl. It's a good thing girls start liking games more too. You might even say I prefer them, because they on average play more fair and whine about lag less. Doesn't mean I'm trying to get under your skirt.
Where are you located? Here in the States, most of the feminists just want equality. There are a few whiners here and there, but I would have to say that in my experiance the vast majority just want equality. I suppose it depends on how you define "a lot".
Diverting conversation back on topic:
I'm a girl. Though I don't know how relevant saying this as I wasn't actually posting, or even had an account, when BlueJapan made this thread. Anyway, thought I might make my first post here. I don't really know if this counts as going out of my way to make it known I'm female as that was the topic of the thread but if it is, flaming ahoy.
Well, there's a big difference between going out of the way to make it known you're female in the middle of a random other conversation, and going out of the way to make it known you're female on a thread for going out of the way to make it known you're female.......
My name's Sadysto...and I'm a female.

Hi my name is twifight, and I'm an alcoh.. wait.. whut?!
For a credit card number i could be a female.
I talked to a girl once...
Small world isn't it?
According to some, I guess I am a feminist since I dared open my mouth on this forum, and there isn't anything I can do to change their mind. They want a reason to overlook what I say, they'll find one.
The bolded and underlined sentences directly contradict one another. First you decry stereotyping other groups based on the extreme positions of a few individuals claiming membership in that group, and you turn right around and blast the forum because "some" abstract group somewhere in the world "thinks your a feminist since you dared open your mouth," which was explicitly not the position taken by the rational contributors to this thread. I think you should rethink precisely who in this thread has prejudicial stereotyping issues.
Precisely how is this "instinct" different than other gender-disparity-issues that could also be categorized as "instincts," such that the former is socially acceptable but the latter are not?
This post completely perpetuates female forumer stereotypes.
That's why it's funny.
Actually, from a lifetime of experience, women are not at fault for bringing sexism down upon ourselves. Men make more of a big deal about gender than women, and this thread - deeply laden as it is with sexism - would still be filled with most of that sexism if there weren't any women here saying "You know, this conversation is sexist."
A man posted the question about women. Men talked about how women aren't on the internet, how all the women on the internet are really ugly or men, how women don't like wargames and prefer games aimed at women (whatever that's even supposed to mean). One man said that people are people and that no one should make a big deal about who they are, but then turned around and justified (badly, and in a sexist fashion) why it's okay for men to treat women like weird and unusual creatures when we show up anywhere near male gamers who apparently think they live in a world where women game so rarely that we must be treated as exotic and bizarre creatures to be ogled at like the Hottentot Venus.
It's men who treat women gamers like some sort of anomaly, not women.
I probably should have followed my own instincts and not bothered to return to this thread.
Why was it necessary for multiple men to jump in and derail this thread, throw in irrelevant jokes about how there are no women on the internet (and everyone who says she's a woman is either ugly or really a man, or perhaps both)? Why was it necessary for some men to invoke a stereotype of a woman trying to use her gender to get male attention - and most of all, why was this done in such a way as to make it seem like men who give women excessive (and, bluntly, creepy) attention aren't really responsible for what they do?
Why was it necessary for some men to say (or agree with the statement) that there shouldn't be any feminists? Why did one guy complain that feminists should call themselves "equalists" if they really want equal rights? Why invoke extreme stereotypes propagated by right wing demagogues like Rush Limbaugh to discredit feminists?
If this thread is really just about one person trying to find out if other women read and post here, why didn't all you men just let women post here without loading this thread down with all this sexist nonsense? Is it really too much to ask to give women enough space just to say that we exist, or is it absolutely necessary for you to trample all over this thread just so everyone knows that men are the truly important participants around here?
And that example from that one guy about how women need to be second-class citizens because he might one day be called upon to give his life so that women and children might live? How melodramatic can you get? Seriously, do you routinely find yourself in a burning building or a sinking ship, being told to wait your turn so women can get out, thus killing you? Because I routinely find myself in situations where men are doing and saying sexist things, and honestly, I just can't sympathize with your hypothetical pain next to what I and other women experience in our daily lives. Even if it's true, even if this were the case, the custom to let women and children escape first is a chivalrous custom, and chivalry itself (and everything derived from it), came from other men - so, really, if you're upset about the ways that society says men should treat women like delicate flowers, it was men who made that decision.
Two quick reasons--first, the silly one: There's no tradition of keeping threads 'on topic' in the Off-Topic areas, and threadjacking is wildly popular even in more 'structured' areas of Stardock-land. Derailing of some sort almost certainly would have happened even if all us testicle-owning people had stayed out.
Now, the serious one: We're a very small crowd, but some of us menfolk (even straight ones) were raised to resist patriarchal bullshit. For me, seeing knee-jerk echoes of Rush's feminazi motif is almost impossible to ignore. The amazing gains Western women have seen in their legal rights are not some autochthonous spawn of 'free societies.' They are the results of multi-generational political struggle, and there is no shame at all in knowing and being proud of that history, even if your genitals are external.
lulwhut?
Why are you asking so many questions? Why do you not bring any arguments? Why do you assume every little thing said in this thread is directly pointed against women? Why do you say I "complained"? Why didn't you just read the second part of that sentence? Why didn't you realize I said nothing bad about feminists here? Why don't you agree with me, because you know what I said is right.
If feminists are not pro women, but just for equal rights, then the whole term feminist is ill chosen, because it implies the favor of one group, in this case women. Actually I'll be as bold to say that if feminists call themselves equalists they'd get their point across better and might get more support from both the male and female population.
woot! i cant say i see feminists in a positive light myself, they just seem power hungry sometimes. may just be the crazy ones though, god knows they are out there. do love the debate, and this is in noway a bump.
Reading comprehension, dear people, is your friend.
Anyone who willingly blinds themselves to opposing sides of an argument doesn't deserve to have an opinion. Half the posts here, so filled with righteous fury they are, do exactly that.
Hypocrisy and zealotry... even on the interwebs it's still infuriating. You all just go on thinking you're "fighting the good fight", perhaps one day you'll realize that the world isn't black and white, it's gray.
wow, someone (probably a girl) aks if she is not the only girl playing this game and we get a post with mostly trolls. i don't get it why there are so many useless posts in here. that's very sad. i guess no matter what genders, most people here arn't even humen but trolls.
Add females to the mix is like throwing Diesel on a bush fire.
