Vacations are always over too fast.
Ever wondered why games don’t tend to be released in the Spring or Summer? Besides the Winter being better for retail, the other thing, at least in software that I’m beginning to see is that it’s harder to get updates out quickly because that’s when people tend to go on vacation. So it’s definitely been a slog getting updates out the door these past few weeks.
It’s just as well because as games evolve, the needs of the game community change. Here are some of the things that have risen high on the list of things to add into Demigod in future updates:
1. I’d like to see a randomize teams in custom games. That is, players press a button and when the game starts, the teams are mixed up. There is definitely a growing issue about “pre-mades” vs. “random”. We will have to talk to Gas Powered Games to see what can be done without blowing up the budget but I think this is an issue that is needed.
2. I also think that clans/groups are probably going to need to be moved up ahead of mod support. Currently v1.2 is looking at modding as a major focus. But I’m curious to hear what you guys think about this because I think modding, as important as it is, may not be as important as making it easier for groups to play together. The pre-made issue wouldn’t be so obnoxious if it were pre-mades vs. pre-mades. Again, the trick here is to do this without blowing up the budget.
3. More demigods. This is a topic that comes up on every call with Gas Powered Games. Right now, they’re focusing on finishing up the demo but getting some sort of pipeline of new demigods is something we think is critical.
4. The freaking stats. While this would probably be #1 on my personal list, I’m painfully aware that I’m in the minority on this. Nevertheless, abusing my position here a bit I assigned part of our software group to get in there and nail down the stupid stats. I’ve come to understand that the situation is a lot harder than it would seem (at least intuitively). But not to be a bastard, I don’t really care if it’s “complicated”. If I win, it better bloody show up on my record. 90% of people probably don’t care but I personally think the 10% who do care are crucial to the game’s long term on-line viability.
Now, this is by no means a complete list. Replays, Rematches, and lots of other things are on the list for a v1.2 which we are negotiating with GPG. But these are the kinds of things that I think are pretty crucial in my opinion.
Enraged, just go into Options -> Video, and choose the topmost video setting (Windowed). If you want the window to run in a resolution better than the 1024x768 (I think) default, add a /windows <WindowXSize> <WindowsYSize> to the shortcut:
C:\<INSTALL FOLDER>\demigod.exe /windowed 1600 1200
Or some such.
In fact - you can probably get away with JUST the command-line option.
there already is a window mode... for those with duel screens (like myself) its almost impossible to play unless u use this. i think its just an option under the resolution, just scroll up to the top and it should be there. only disadvantage to windowed is that u can't edge track so panning around is a little more difficult.
Alt-tab seems to be fixed for me. I used to crash but I alt-tab all the time for the past 2 weeks. It never crashed once.
Windows 7 here
Ati x3650, 3gb ram, AMD Turion X2
I've thought about this a lot recently. I think Impulse should focus on getting the friends and community features up to compete with Steam.
I think Demigod needs modding first. We're all complaining about lack of content. Give us the ability to generate it and do the Team Fortress 2 thing where you waddle through our crap for the gold.
YO frogboy if your game doesnt crash and the people at GPG dont have the problem how do u ever expect to fix it>?. shouldnt you guys think of adding some sorta of reporting program that sends the info when a game crashs to you guys. sorta like what windows does when a game has a error. i know iv gotta a error a couple times that has all sorts of usefull data on a screen that pops up
They solve problems with good ol' fashion bug reports and technical assistance.
You're right Frogboy, clan support would be better for DG right now then modding.
This is not to say that mod support isn't important, but sorting out the community will make DG grow more.
You know what else would be cool? A hardcore game mode where multiple demigods cannot exist, and only 1 of each item can be in play at any time except consumables (1st come, first served by the shop).
Worst idea ever. So when the game starts, whoever clicks on the item shop first and buys the items gains a huge advantage? No thanks.
For the game to increase we need a demo for it to last we need modding and clan support
Excellent, glad to hear item 1 has shuffled to the top of the list, for me this, and new maps are the number 1 issues atm.
However for item 1, randomize teams I think it would also be great to have a rank adjust teams (assign players to teams based on their rank/hours played or whatever in an attampt to insure the teams are 'evenly' balanced in skill).
Cheers
Not a good idea IMO. However, having DG's only allowed to use one item per TYPE at a time... now that may help these nerf-HP suggestions and posts.
My personal ordered to-do list:
1. First, I like the randomize teams feature, it sounds like an easy add-on to really help custom games.
2. I think we need a way for Premade/Arranged Team matchups ASAP, but I do NOT think we need full-blown "clan" support yet. Just a simple "This is my group, find me some guys to bash" feature would be perfect.
3. Mod support. Allowing popular mods to be absorbed and included in updates via Impulse would be perfect.
4. The. Freaking. Stats. Need. To. Work.
5. Replays.
6. And then, and only then, do we need more content (demigods and items) published from GPG.
Lets think about this for a minute. Right now everyone wants more content. Mod support increases the chance content will flow. We can really live without clan support for a little longer. People playing together are already doing it. Mod support now means better content created by people down the line as SDK knowledge increases.
Please don't speak for everyone. You don't know what EVERYONE wants. I could care less if there was more content. I want a working game.
I could care less about mod support. I want the developers to develop the content, not some retarded basement kid who thinks replacing demigod models with zombie models will be fun. Mods are overrated as hell - I don't know why some of you people are drooling over them.
What the game needs:
1. More demigods
2. More maps
3. Clan support
4. Accurate statistic tracking along with a ladder system
In that order.
Protip:Could care less means you care.
protip: this isn't 4chan. Irrelevant posts is a sign of low intelligence.
Sshh, let him have his moment of glory.
Anyway right now the game is seriously suffering from lack of content. There are only 8 demigods, and most people like to play with maybe half of those. In most games you join, chances are someone will already have chosen that demigod, and because most people don't like playing with doubles, it means you're either shoe-horned into playing a demigod you don't like, or forced to quit and look for another game. Also, while there are 8 maps, only 3 or 4 gets played regularly:
Cataract (most popular, which sucks because it's very one-dimensional: there's only one viable strategy in it: capture and lock the side portals for easy win)
Leviathan (second most popular. awesome map).
Prison (good map for smaller teams)
Zikurat (good map for large teams)
The rest are almost never played. At any given time, looking at the games in the lobby you see
cataract
leviathan
prison
I mean come on, man.
Every game I play in people have this strange obsession with variety. My fun comes from outplaying my opponents, and I don't particularly care how many different pretty pictures are in the background when I do so.
That's retarded. It's not about pretty pictures. I am not asking them to release the same maps with different textures and backgrounds and call it Katarakt or Ziggurat.
New maps mean new tactics and strategies. Both of them are very important gameplay elements. The game is not only about what skills and items to choose and use during duels.
But who doesn't love looking at the 8 Demigod constellations in Exile
Do you have any suggestions? I've thought about it quite a bit, and based on the ideas subsection so have other people, but thus far there's only been one really good idea: Clock Tower. And that idea is so good that it'll never be implemented.
But I return to my main point. I don't care if there are 4 maps or 5. I don't care if there are 8 DGs or 9. I don't need those extra things to have fun outsmarting people. Increasing variety is a luxury. Implementing rudimentary game functions is a need.
A ladder system is not a rudimentary game function. Neither is clan support.
New demigods and new maps allow you to experiment with new ways of outsmarting your opponents. Playing the same demigods over and over, and the same maps over and over, is not fun, unless you have a special love for repetitive gameplay. Variety increases a game's lifespan by giving people different things to try.
Team automatch, a working friends system, properly recorded stats, and elimination of game bugs are rudimentary game functions. Variety can come later.
From my understanding, the way you are using "rudimentary" is "critical for a game's success".
Or am I misunderstanding you?
