Just being a lameass and reposting gameplay movie.
I just hope this mini dump issues get's solved soon. It's not your mod... in fact the game has down it with several other mods I have tried.. very dissappointing . And it has nothing to do with the beast I play on either.
Hey Major have you or any of your buddies ever played " Birth of Federation" ? It's oldie but a fantastic goodie... you might want to treat yourself to a copy for Christmas.. you can usually only find it on Ebay and it commands a pretty stiff price of $60-$100 but well worth it.. The game is best trek game I have ever played... period... It roles lots on interesting show highlights in it.. It's funny seeing how the computer AI for each race responds.. along with Diplomatic views lol.... Like the way the Federation views the Binars vs say the Klingons lol or even the Ferengi.. That's also the only game I know of where you can actually play as the Ferengi...
Oh the Borg happen in that game too lol... and OMG they kick your ass but yeah.. if you played it you know all this.. if not get yourself a copy... hell if I manage to get my copies remilled and able to be read without corruption I might be able to send you off one the game was made in 1999 so I think 10 years so I think it's legal to copy now... if not nevermind lol...
I can see the reason for a new topic / thread lol. MiniDumps are fixed in the next version yo.
The game is abandonware and is fully available for free download. It's also great.
how long do you think it might take to get the next update out. a rough estimate would be awsome because i cant wait to play as the domin n romulan. and this mod rocks great job you guys.
0.4e wont be out till next year.... as in somewhere in January if nothing goes wrong. Like i said before we got a ton of work to do, and real life is priority right now. We tried to get it done before christmas, but i seriously doubt it will happen.
However i am working on an update to the Original Sins version of the mod to tide you guys over until we can get 0.4e out the door. Give me about a week to get that done. I already have the feds done in it.
SoA 2_OS The "OS" stands for Original Sins will be an updated version of 0.03c with some 0.4e components in it. However theres some things it will not have. Like Dynamic ship movement, because original sins doesnt support fighter movement for ships, and i really dont want to waste time with "workarounds" that cause errors, and crashes. Everything i did with 0.4e i am doing to SoA 2_OS except for the research trees. Again i do not want to waste too much time on this. It will use fully functional vanilla sins research trees tied into ship unlocks, and weapon upgrades. It will basically play just like vanilla sins. Except with trek ships. Which is all 0.03c was anyway. Once 0.4e is released i will have no issue with anyone who wants to "downgrade" it, because we just dont have the time or manpower to do multi-versions.
Once SoA 2_OS is ready ill start the new topic.
Hey, question - what is the ship on the Federation side that disables mines? I played a MP game with a friend over a couple days, and he got pissed off because he kept running into my mines. I know the Klingons can do it (I think it was the D-4), but he claimed there wasn't a minesweeper ship, which to me seems unlikely. Am I right and he just sucks?
There is a mine sweeper its the miranda class ship.
Random question.. I know you have the Ambassador... as the Small Colony Cap ship... ? Could you switch the Intrepid with it? Just as an omage to Voyager ... And I know the Intrepid was smaller but I bet it was more powerful in a fight then the Ambassador... and since it can land on a planet I would assume that is more colonizing appropriate.. I don't know Sorry to nid pic.. but I know this mod is going to be the best Star Trek game in many years.. so I'd hate to loose this oppertunity to throw in my 2 cents about Making Voyager a Cap ship OVER the Ambassador Class.
Thanks
Wouldn't it be possible to just add the Voyager as the Colony Cap ship, and keep the Ambassador (but not as a cap ship). If you're feeling like it, you could also add the Prometheus, or Luna class ships
Ill give you credit that you are brave enough to admit you liked voyager. I can see the lynch mob forming behind me now.
Its too late in the build to change slots around. I cant see the intrepid as a colonizer, or an elite unit for that matter. The reason Voyager was considered elite is a guarded secret... Janeway sold her soul to Chaos, and the panthion blessed her with the gifts of the dark gods... Like endless shuttle, and replacement crew resurrection, The ability to violate the prime directive, and any temporal law in existance without anyone noticing, or giving a damn, Then get on her self rightious high horse about the prime directive only when it suited her. A ship that goes through battle after battle and the next week she looks as if she just launched out of the grand theft auto paint and spray. Lets not forget that its invulnerable vs Borg (Khorne loves a good fight), but 5 disruptor hits from a 23rd century D-7 damn near cripple it (Tzeench must have been pissed at her that day). Ok... so i dont like voyager. Least i got the Intrepid in the mod
Oh how did i know someone was gonna pull the prometheus out of the woodwork sooner or later.. NO uberships in the mod.
Little update on SoA 2_OS all factions are in. All tested no errors. just need to add some more stats and do some UI work and shes done.
You, dear Sir, have no taste in TV. Voyager was kick-ass. You're just unhappy because it places a woman in charge, or because it actually looks like a pretty ship.
You almost make it sound unrealistic, and we all know just how many space-ships with warp engines that we can compare it to
Imho, DS9 was the weakest of all the shows - it was so...un-Star Trekkie. Still, we can't change history..sadly. Lmao
I guessed you wouldn't incldue the Prometheus. It's an awesome looking ship though Have you come up with any suggestions for the remaining Fed ship slots?
Hey I just dled the mod at gave it a got lastnight. Nice work so far... really nice actually. Got a question though... I really just played it to see the cap ships in action and noticed for some reaon that all my ships would almost like run away from the pirates as they fought and just sit in a corner getting hammered. I would need to manually direct the ship to face the pirates in order to get all the phasers and torpedoes to fire. Is this a known issue or is it just some random hiccup only I have experienced?
Awesome looking mod so far btw.
Did you accidently deactivate the 'Auto-Engage' function on your fleet?
I'm not sure, honestly I don't even know how to do that. I did select my cap ship and then right click on the enemy vessel and my ship would do the same thing (run off to maximum distance and turn its back to the enemy). I'll give it another try later today to see if it was just a hiccup on my part.
I think it's a known issue resulting from dynamic movement. Not sure if it was fixed. It seems like you're having it happen to you a lot more often than it happened to me though...weird.
For the record, I concur w/ Major Stress. Blech on Intrepid, and double blech on all the mystic crap they magicaly do week after week. Triple bleck on Janeway (it doesn't make anyone sexist to hate her because she's a man, baby ).
I have to say the best Starships are the refit Constitution and the Galaxy, aesthetically speaking. The Voyager (and thus Intrepid class) was thrown together on short notice to help launch the Paramount Network, and was anathema to traditional fans. Planetfall ability? WTF? Doesn't that mean it's not a starship anymore? Mobile nacelles? Wait, they wouldn't even need to move if the ship didn't land? What's going on here?
Their hearts were in the right place, trying to retain the classic elements (space ship, new worlds, etc.), but their minds were off in la-la land.
I think this is the issue. I've been away from the mod forums for a few months but I am assuming you are talking about where the ships no longer stay stationary and slug it out. Instead they move around eachother in a constant motion. If that is correct then yeah I think that is the issue I am having. My ships will engage and fight then sometimes they will drag themselves to the outer edge of the gravity well and just continue to attempt to fly straight away from the planet and never come about and face the enemy. Not sure if that makes sense or not, I wish I could post a video to show exactly what I am trying to describe.
I tried to fiddle with thing to see if I could have them turn around without directing them to fly back towards the planet and in the engagement tactics menu you have 3 choices (Gravity Well/Local Area/Hold Position) when I selected hold position my ship would turn around and reengaged but wouldn't fly around in the dynamic movement. I tried to make a cruiser (forget which one) and for a good bit it fought normally when I have a pirate invasion but eventually when the fight took them near the outskirts of the gravity well they would try to fly off into space with their backs turned to the enemy too.
Just thought I'd add that the UI is awesome and very immersive... good job on the mod.
It's a known problem.. The fighter physics used for dynamic movement want a minimum range before they will turn around and engage. As a result they just keep flying straight forever because they aren't fast enough to put enough distance between it and the the ship chasing it. I've seen ships manage to get to another grav well without using phase space because of the issue.
Thx Carbon016, I have been looking for a good copy of this game since I first saw my Platoon Sergeant playing it my first time in Iraq.
Umm. . . When did the year 40k roll around? Too much Warhammer for you !
You only say that because it took place on a space station and not a starship (though that is understandable), but at least it didn't have the same problems that MajorStress mentioned (though it had some of it's own). By far I preferred ST:TNG the most out of all.
Oh and J808, Myles has it right. That is a known issue that nothing can be done about (other than manging your fleets a little closer).
MajorStress, you asked earlier about our voting on importing this title to Diplomacy. I vote yes (mainly to justify my reasons behind purchasing the expansion), but you don't have to do it right away. I say finish everything for the mod on entrenchment, THAN convert over to Diplomacy (that way they will have finished with all of their patching).
I see, well thanks.
It's weird, I totally lost interest in Trek because of Voyager... on top of all the reasons Stress mentioned, by this time Trek was becoming way too politically correct... i.e. boring. Yet one of my absolute favorite Trek episodes of all the series is a Voyager episode: Scorpion. The one where 7 of 9 showed up for the first time. That was an outstanding episode... totally edge of your seat, and arguably one of the best since the Doomsday Machine.
But then it went back to the same bland Voyager, fraut with all the writing contradictions. That's who I blame, the idiot writing staff... what ever happened to the old Trek??? The one that made everyone's jaw drop week after week??? The one where Kirk kissed Uhura and half black/half white dudes tried to annialate each other over which side was white????
Voyager was such a pretty little thing, too bad the writer's castrated her....
Where to begin?
While I have nothing against any of the 5 "canon" Star Trek shows, I consider DS9 to be the best of them, followed closely by TNG. I grew up during the "TNG-era", so that was also the first show I watched. Was about 4 years old when it first premiered here in Sweden.
Voyager had it's share of moments, but the one thing that I will never forgive Rick Berman for, is making the Borg the "weak-ass" bad guys they were shown as in Voyager. Here we have a ship which is little more than a "deep space explorer", armed with a limited amount of phasers, only 38 photon torpedoes (pilot episode) and with no other ships around as backup. Traveling home through the Delta Quadrant, which had long been estabilished as the home of TNG's arch-nemesis, the Borg. And when the Borg finally do make an appearance in the show, what did the producers do?
Introduce a "bombshell" in the form of Jeri Ryan/Seven of Nine, primarily to attract the younger teenage boys and to boost the then failing ratings of the show. Further encounters with the Borg, showed them to be "gullable" and easily defeated. Janeway's first encounter with them, resulted in a temporary alliance with the Borg to defeat Species 8472 (which the Borg originally attacked). The alliance was ofcourse broken, and if you follow through to the series finale, "Admiral" Janeway eventually developed technologies during her travel home to Earth, to defeat the Borg.
Now unless this technology was more advanced than that of Species 8472, I really don't see that happening. Species 8472 was the only species the Borg have never been able to assimilate. We've seen dozens of Borg cubes get wiped out near instantly by 8472's ships.
As I said, Voyager had it's moments, but all of which culminated in the series finale with the "uber" armor technology, and the 1-shot torpedo technology, pretty much negating any "effort" on the part of the Voyager crew. I would've much preferred them to have been destroyed in the finale, never reaching home... or to be on a "continuous" search for home, and not show us the resolution of their travels. Would've left an opening for making a Voyager-movie in that case.
If it were up to me, they should have done a DS9 movie long before the JJ Abrams Trek that was released earlier this year. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie... but it was of a decidedly different style to past Trek incarnations.
I agree with you on some of that - the Borg were a major letdown. I watched TNG first, then Voyager, and am only just starting to watch DS9 (picked the DVD's up cheap). Deep Space Nine, to me, only seems to be "Oh no, the Cardassians have left another trap in the station. We're all going to die. Oh, wait, if I pull this plug, then we'll all live". Not what I'd consider the brilliant storylines of TNG.
I believe that the last episode(s) of Voyager were a bit rushed - Seven of Nine and Chakotay suddenly started dating - all far to fast.
As to the person that said "Planetfall ability? WTF? Doesn't that mean it's not a starship anymore? Mobile nacelles? Wait, they wouldn't even need to move if the ship didn't land? What's going on here?" - that's not quite true. Did you ever watch Battlestar Galactica? The ships landed in that. In reality, the Spaceships land - doesn't mean that they can't fly as well, otherwise aeroplanes would have to drive all the way around the world.
Federation cruisers do not land. They have orbital drydocks for repair jobs, and transporters and shuttlecraft for personel transport. Ships aren't even built planetside by TNG, everything happens in orbit.
It was designed to land specifically so it could be lost on the other side of the galaxy and "fix" all the plot holes that come with not having a drydock to get repaired at.
