It's too bad the patch broke it (good thing i held off on getting the patches ) but i hope you can get the mod to work soon, cuz they said it fixed some late-game lag issues .
Trance, I've played Future Wars - Tactical Sim. It only works with vanilla sins, not entrenchment unfortunately. My only real issue was that it was TOTALLY in german as they didnt get to translate it so i got incredibly confused. Other than that. it was an OK placeholder until i got to play SoA2 for entrench. I'd recommend it if you want to play a "futuristic Star Trek" (lol), but it looks a little bit cartoony IMO. Nothing as great looking as SoA2.
On a side note, C'MON ROMMIES AND DOMMIES! and, of course, the Borg...
Hi NHD-151,
Thanks for the info. Yeah I heard that they will have english translation soon. But anyway, I am by far more interested the next SoA2 patch, no doubt about that
I only just read that the Federation Starbases were taken out, oh man can't wait till they are put back in
It was just a thought until the patch for SOA to 1.04 entrench was out.
The Fed Starbase was taken out because the thing was just too damn big to fit in the grav well if we scaled it properly. We are talking the extended sized grav wells too. It is bigger than a full sized borg cube (which that is getting a size reduction as well). When things that big are in the well it causes many problems. The biggest is the ships going out of thier way to hit them. Much like the vanilla ships go out of thier way to get stuck on asteroids. We can do one of two things here. First we can use a different type of smaller non-canon starbase to take its place, OR.. We can scale down the spacedock type station to half its size. I prefer the latter, because i would rather keep a canon station there. We know not everything in sins is to scale especially planets. We can make this exception for supersized ships, and structures to make them work as well.
Hamachi got its bad rep from being used for pir8-ed games. There should be no issue if it is used on older sins 1.03 games. In fact i hope you guys backed up your old 1.03 installs, because it may take a while to adapt to 1.04. I am not sure what Shimmer plans are yet. If we are updating the existing mod to 1.04, or if we are just gonna release the next update in 1.04 standard. Until then Hamachi it up with 1.03.
lol i still cant get the first patch to work and then the Entrenchment patch breaks the mod i must not be liked by the man upstairs
Thanks for the update Major Stress. I agree with you, scaling down is the way to go. As you said, not like the planets and the stars are to scale.
When you say it may take a while for you guys to adapt to 1.04, do you you mean 1 week, or maybe 2? or more? Just as an estimate, so I can have an idea. If its easy to fix then would be nice if we can just get an update to fix the mod to work on 1.04. But if its a few days or max a week away from next patch, then just do it in one go I guess
It's good to hear you are on top of it. Since I only play mods with sins anymore anyway, I haven't upgraded, and won't until all the mods I play have been fixed.
Thanks all for your efforts.
well the only official patch i'll have to update to will be the diplomacy addon
hope the SOA2 mod will quickly adapt this new addon cuz vanilla would get boring too fast again i guess ^^
any news on the update to 1.04
We are working on the it. Just a fyi sins and entrenchment will undergo a hot fix to correct some issues with the last patch . Currently that is what is holding progress up for everyone. Also does anyone have the stock sins 1.18 files ? I have the stock 1.04 files thanks
I think Stress is right about using smaller versions of the Fed Starbase/Borg Cube being preferable - most people prolly won't notice the size change anyway, and you have to work around these things to make the game feel real, yet fun to play.
On a separate note...
Glorious Sacrifice Officially Submitted (finally).
I submitted two versions of the ability, one that's a straight-up ramming maneuver and one that involves pointing the cap ship at the enemy and firing off the warp drive. Here's hoping the patch didn't break it (if so, lemme know and I can try to tweak once the mod is up and working w/ the current version).
Right now it is about as close to pandemonium with the fix as it gets. It is going to take time. LOTS of it.
I am doing what i can to figure out what the patch broke. With what resources i have available. Short of re-building the entire mod from scratch.
We had to rebuild the mod from scratch with each major patch before, and i am afraid we will have to do it yet again. The old saying "Nuke it from orbit...Its the only way to be sure." Its gonna be a loooong night.
I haven't heard from Shimmer, or the rest of the team except for jtaylopcs as far as whats going on, or whats being done. If you guys see me on MSN say something. I dont want to rebuild this mod myself. Been there, done that. Aint doing it again.
Right now it is the 1st week of the patch, and we are on hold waiting for the damn hotfix. Hopefully they will release a new dev.exe while they are at it.
Be patient its gonna take us a quite a while to get this done.
have identified some of the changes and thus far are only minor
Hey Stress, I have updated to the new patches (backupped sins directory first) and i'm currently working on figuring out what's going on. Some of it I'm hopelessly lost on (was never very good working on the UI) but I am working on the other stuff. I'm hoping just adding/updating files will fix this.
Yep, the dev builds will be coming with the hotfix and from now on, likely released with patches instead of as seperate downloads.
thanks Blair for the clarification [e digicons](\(\[/e]
I just want to say (though it may already have been said) that I've enjoyed playing this mod (closest will will get to STO until it comes out). It's a shame that the new patch has broken the mod, and it seems disheartening to the ones who have worked endlessly on it. All that being said I want to thank Team SoA for your hard work on an enjoyable experience. Keep up the good work and I'm looking forward to the new version of the mod (which will require patirence, i know).
Live long and prosper, Team SoA[e digicons](\(\[/e]
Nice video, but you too have yet to learn how to turn off Ship Mesh Highlight filtering. Which is why some ships glow much brighter than others. I never use it nor have it enabled. We still need to figure out how to make that feature work right with the mod, but its been low priority till we got more important things done. Go to options\effects, and uncheck it. Also ctrl + shift + z turns off the UI (after u switch to cinematic mode of course) will greatly enhance any vids, and screenshots.
Thank you Blair for the update. Wasnt expecting a Dev presense here, but it is greatly appreciated
OK i need to hear it from you guys.. Our community. 1/2 scaled down fed mushroom starbase, and borg cube? or replace with something "other"?
I have a mushroom model (with full interior) ready to import. 1/2 scale would make it about 1500-1700 meters wide instead of 3000+ . It will still be a big ass station (it will be about 3000 meters tall), but it wont take up 1/2 the grav well like the full scale station would. I am thinking of doing the same with the standard borg cube. Capping its size at 1500 meters instead of the actual 3000 meter scale. The Jem hadar Enslaver, and the D'Deridex warbird are about that size, and they work fine in game. "IF" we do 1/2 scale "supersized" units you would have to understand they are 1/2 scale, and why we made them that way. That answer would be for the gameplay. Which IMO always comes 1st.
my suggestion is 1/3 size for the supersize again for gameplay
harpo
I agree with a smaller mushroom model starbase. It was way to big before BUT it needs to be the feds starbase.
The large size looks weird when the station tilts to fire, not sure if you can disable that.
I am happy with whatever you guys decide to do, It is your mod and you have access to the final models, will just be happy to play it
I also agree with making them 1/2 size. In the end as you pointed out, gameplay must come first
Keep up the good work.
1/2 scale please. Remember, Canon first!
Why don´t you upscale planets and gravity wells by 3 or 4 and keep the starbase on it´s original size? (this would also make the game a bit more realistic looking)
