Ok, so i was reading another forum where somone mentioned the idea of clonning your demigod. Obviously a complete clone is way overpowered if you have to kill both (or all) of them to destroy the DG and useless if they are one hit paper clones. Anyway, I started thinking about a "splitting" ability. Kind of like the panda in WC3. The backstory would be about a tragic hero who was torn between protecting his kingdom and seeking out his own ambitions, somehow he is immortalized in statue. He would appear as a two sided statue (a face on both sides) a little taller than oak but a bit shorter than rook. One side would be procelain or lime stone or something vibrant white, while the other side would be Obsidian. His abilites would be based around this theme. (here are some ideas i had for them)1. Split - Split into the two sides, one light and one dark statue, both with x% of remaining health (25% at level 1 40% at level 3 maybe?). While split both sides also have reduced mana (probably also an x%). Lasts maybe 40-100 seconds or so? (with a very sizeable cooldown AFTER the ability finishes). Only one side needs to be alive when the skill ends and the character will be recreated at the site of one of the two (if both are alive) sides, chosen randomly.2. A shield that increases deffense by an integer value and gives a small chance to block all damage and absorb 5-20% of what damage would have been dealt. (can only be used by the light side when the DG is split) this can be cast on allies as well.3. Curse type of skill. A debuf to movement and attack speed (5%?) as well as damage over time similar to (but less than) UC's poison spit. I was also thinking it might be cool if it did ALOT less damage but it prevented healing over time for the duration. This skill could only be used by the dark side during split.4. passive skill that on death both sides have a final word. The light side will heal allies and the dark side will damage surounding enemies, not for too much damage but enough to be relevent and worth investing in. (only the repective effect occurs while split)5. Bi-focus - each side acts on it's own ambitions and will attack seperate targets (the dark or light side will randomly choose surounding targets) but each side interfears with the other so they do reduced damaged, maybe 40% less at level 1 and so on?6. A skill focused on the internal chaos of the DG, either does light or dark. Heals everything around it for a good amount, or damages everything around it fora good amount respectively. While split both DGs can use this skill but for light it will only heal and for dark it will only damage. Also, the power could be reduced while split.7. Routlet - a skill that targets either a friendly or enemy demi-god and does randomly healing or damage for a random amount based on a Poisson distribution (so it usually has an average value but also VERY RARELY can have huge values too).8. Chaos Emrace (dark) - adds a randomly chosen amount of damage to your attacks but only while in the combined form.9. Chaos Emrace (light) - adds a randomly chosen amount of life steal to your attacks while in the combined form.So basicaly the idea is to work around the mechanic that it's really two DGs that are stuck together. It deals with the chaos between perfect good and perfect evil, there arn't many random values in other DGs skills so i thought it would be cool to have a character that can throw in some unpredictability, it also lets the player develop to the situation, you can be a hero killer or a good support. It's just a starting idea, i would love to have other people's input on this.
Sounds fairly tough to implement it. While split:
- Double capping ftw?
- who gets healed by potions? who gets teleported by scrolls? who gets selected if you double-click on the DG's portrait?
- what about items perma-boosts? could you have one half-DG going back shopping and insta-upgrading the other half-DG?
- if general... who gets minions custody?
Imho, seems tricky to handle a split concept like that, both for technical and balance reasons...
Double capping would be strategic then.
The person targetted would be healed. I say they share a mana bar but when split is used the health bar has a top and bottom.
Teleport would teleport both or it could be targetted with him. So you would click the right version and click where to teleport
They would share items and stats just have a reducement of some of them while split.
I don't think this would be a general and there there is no custody of minions.
Another way to do it would be to design a completely new UI. Where his main demigod bar would be split left and right. The items on top of the abilities with the bar to the left and right. There would be a visible line separating the 2 halfs and HP and Mana when dropping would angle to the center. This would also fix the double clicking issue if the portrait when split is used doubles into the 2 halves. This ui would only be visible when the demigod splits.
Like the overall idea. I do say it seems hard to impliment. And balance wouldn't be a problem. This DG would be hard to play for a reason. But when you play him well he could have some immense power backing him up. Expecially if you had the dark side using roulet on others and the light side healing him.
If i new UI could be designed just for this character that would be pretty sweet, maybe in an expansion with other content for money it could be done. I would love to see a mod with this character but it would be terribly difficult to implement for a person making a mod. I was think that while split either items shared effects and "use" items could not be used or they would share cool downs for the characters and the stats added would be split half and half.Originaly i was thinking that while split skills would be a little less chaotic, but a lot less powerful so that you'd feel like you were a gimped demigod while playing as one split and could compensate with strategic manipulation of the two half demi-gods in combination. This way though, there would still be insentive to stay combined some of the time and to split some of the time. would make for more dynamic game-play. Also, this was originaly thought up to be an assassin character so no worrying about minion units.
not to be a giant jerk, however this isn't really a new idea
1) You aren't being a giant jerk. Only a minor one No you aren't being a jerk.
2) He mentioned he saw this on another post first sentance.
3) This is his own version of this idea.
i was more bitter that thread said new and i don't consider this new - then again i didnt read all of it so it may be kinda new
i apologize
Hmmmmmm.... Good idea. Could use some balancing but all in all it sounds pretty good. Maybe i could do a drawing for you? If so email me at mr.reaper18@yahoo.com
lol its me again! lol fuck the drawing crap lol, that was my brother usin my account. Anyways he would seem really fun to play as but he would be really hard to form a constant strategy with, because many of his abilities are random. I can whip up a backstory if u need me to.
