Hi guys my names Bob, I'm blind (I use special screenreading software to help use the computer). I teach 4 little Blind kids how to use the computer but no way am I clever enough to build a logon skin like you guys.
OK I'd like one of you to build me a bootskin so that when we turn on the computers instead of the "Windows XP"crap I get something uniquely personal to us, perhaps "Stop! This Computer is for the use of VIPs (Visually Impaired People) ONLY! DO NOT MESS with the original configuration, have a nice day BOB"
It must be Yellow text on a black background as some of the kids have a little bit of vision. Then hey, let your imagination go wild perhaps a STOP sign or a picture of a sick computer, Alert notices that flash. I'll leave it up to you.
We can pay but not very much as we operate as a charity, when you have created the skin could you explain simply how to get it to work.
By the way we only use Windows XP our screen readers cannot cope with Vista.
Thanks in advance guys
Bob
I would have no problems creating this for you for free. To simply get it to work, you would need to download Stardock's Bootskin program from Download.com - http://download.cnet.com/BootSkin/3000-2072_4-127882.html?tag=mncolOnce you have the Bootskin program installed on the computer, you can just click on the bootskin skin file that I create for you and it should install into the program and work on startup. There isn't a lot of bells and whistles available with BootskinXP - it's pretty much an image, and moving progress bar. Nothing can flash or anything like that. When it's done, I'll post a download link to this thread for the skin file.
You can download the bootskin you were requesting here: http://www.mediafire.com/?tdgwmmnmmkq
Do you have any samples (screenshots) that show what they do use/or can see that you can post? I have been trying to make a desktopx theme for visually impaired folks and could use suggestions on colors, fonts, sizing etc.
This is a great idea to help people on the PC.
Hi Bob.....I remember this being requested before....and special requests for colours that are easiest to see for vision impaired.... two of our members, Quentin & SK did some....perhaps you could check these out....
there are 4 different designs...

Thanks k10w3 it works perfect thank you. Thanks to the rest of you guys and the Guy that was talking re the desktop theme and enquiring about font sizes etc. I'd say usually a colour combination like the one I asked for (thanks again k10w3) is the best to aim for, Font size MUST be in around 22 or greater.
Thanks guys you're all stars.
If anyone needs advice on Computers for the Blind get in touch with me on bob.stoker@sky.com
Yes,they certainly are.
(even if they aren't all guys)
The children were thrilled with the bootskin and wanted me to thank you all for your help, however one little boy did say "can they do the same with a Blinking eye at each side", I told him I am not sure if it is possible but hey, if someone can do it it would make their day.
