You are NOT working much on the game. There's probably like half a programmer that works on demigod. You pushed the game out, you don't fix bugs and the patches are just...
Seriosly don't give me bullshit about it taking months to test balance problems. Obviosly it's not true. It's just that practically noone is working on Demigod. As someone already stated this game was created to make some fast cash.
"After patch 1.2 we will se how sales go bla, bla, bla..." < Yeah. Nice lies. You will just release the patch and let this game be.
Most of the changes in patches take 1 line of text change to be implemented. Sometimes it's just 1 number and you make some naive people think that you're "gods" or something for changing 1 number in 2 weeks.
But... You can count yourselves lucky. You obviosly don't care about the game all that much. But modders will save your game. Those nice people that make some changes in their free time. Any of those guys could make the 1.1 patch in 30 minutes.
Just, please... Release the 1.2 patch with all the moding features and clan support and release the demo. Can you at least do that? The community (more specifically - the modders, those good people) will be forced to fix all your bugs in this buggy game for you.
They will add new demigods, new maps, new units, new features while you sit back and do NOTHING. God bless those people.
So, in conclusion, the least you could do is just post from time to time. No need to be silent any longer.
1 line of code to implement changes? are you kidding me?!, you realise how that one line of code influences a multitude of others?, It's not just a case of deleting binary numbers, It's a case of editing core engine defaults, addressing relations between the coding and also implementing balances to the entire game to make sure everything is working as it should.
I'm not making excuses for Stardock...but please dont be so naive to think that releasing patches to "minor" fixes is like robbing a bank on Uplink.
learn to search forums - stardock posts a ton, it was the weekend, hence no posts, and they communicate with gpg
HoL edit may have involved the image and a few lines, but what about connection stuff?
op fails about lack of knowledge about programming and when people post
Stardock support is kick-ass. The fact that the devs post directly to the users at all is basically a miracle, and the rate at which patches have been coming out far exceeds my expectations.
Don't get me wrong; I was dismayed that there were no replays, moddability, and limited skirmish options (why no FFA!?!?!) at launch, but the gameplay is solid and the patches are really hitting the big ticket areas so I'm still optimistic.
What an asshat.
stardock = good, they understand professionalism and working with customers in a mature manner.
GPG = not so sure, im not very confident in their ability to release good gameplay fixes, patches, content. every single patch seems to bring out more problems. hopefully that will change very soon!
Game dev's should be given permission to beat or at least send some hired goons round to some peoples houses.
The gaming community is getting sickeningly self-centered and self-righteous. But keep hounding them you fecking retard. Give it a few years when games companies simply get fed up and start turning out average shite just to make a sale like the music industry, and the only people to blame will be ourselves. We're not gods or kings or anyone important, we're people that play video games.
People need to wake the fuck up and stop being so selfish.
Shit like this is exactly the reason why you won't see any official responses in these forums anytime soon.
Good job idiot.
the gaming community has always been "self-centered and self-righteous." it's nothing new. maybe it's new to those of you who haven't been around since... well, since internet gaming was possible. i remember playing WC3 many years ago. that game's forums were the first forums i got involved in. people talked in the same manner then as they do now. nothing has changed.
anyway, demigod needs work, and we all know it. it'd be better to post about specific issues as opposed to making bullshit claims. for example, claiming that SD or GPG don't communicate with us is a claim made out of ignorance. issuing the companies commands is also going to get you nowhere.
@ Somaz
congratz ! YOU understand NOTHING !!
next time make sure that your brain is "online" before posting !
unfortunately i havent played that game, so i cannot comment >.<
also i think they may be primarily focused on supcom 2, who knows?
This. But i might add that SD has poor QA testing, because they tested the 1.1 patch and just look at how many bugs got through...
someone just lock and delete this stupid thread. There's no reason for something like this to one of the most supportive publishers and a good developer.
@ Somaz, you obiviously do not do very heavy coding now do you? Sure its easy to fix some of the smaller things such as balance because that is just a few numbers that get changed. But v1.1 was a lot about behind the scenes code fix up for better bandwidth allocation and such. And that stuff is not just changing a number here and there. So shut your mouth and get your facts straight before you start accusing people with your stupidity.
GPG tends to make awesome games with quite a few bugs in them. Given time they'll straighten as many out as they possibly can. But that takes time.
As a beta tester - tested a dozen or so games - I can safely say that unstable programs or exploits are not always the result from improper testing. Some of the issues can be detected with simulations - like 'will this game crash if I order any move on any point on the map in any map?' or 'will me demigod find it's way to any point X from anywhere on the map?' Other issues can only be found by humans such as skills not working like they are supposed to.
Anyway, no matter how much effort the beta testers put in, after a month or so of beta testing and countless hours of testing by testers, there is alsways someone who will found some exploit or bug that countless hours and the best intentions of the testers involved did not spot. these issues always get found within hours after the release because the 'testing' of the community as a whole quickly overtakes any effort the beta testers could possibly make.
So no one in the entire beta of Demigod realised how unbelievabley bad the path finding was?
Also I have to agree I think GPG (no not SD) are dumping the game, there are so many simple and major things they should of fixed before they released, and an even bigger list of things that should of and could of been fixed in the 2 months after the buggy release.
Actually, quite a few of our (beta testers') complaints still haven't been addressed or resolved.
This is one of them.
Yes the pathfinding is an issue. Right now, my main complaint is TB's inability to attack while chasing someone. I'm sure it will get fixed.
I think that Stardock will do their best to keep GPG working on this game. I hope that they can get the game to the point where most people are happy with the product. Just give it some more time.
You think its kick-ass to release a unfinished game and have a community that supports it and praise them for fixing all the stuff that should have been there at release?
Sry, I dont understand you people... Well its gpg who didnt finish it, but at the same time stardock released the game in such a state.
They said that they already paid gpg for patching demigod and adding new content for 1 year. - Now Frogboy tells us that after patch 1.2 it depends on how sales go. I love the game and I recommended it to a lot of my friends, because I thought they would fix all the issues shortly after release and later add new content but I am kind of disappointed now.
Actually sometimes it IS only one line of code that can mess up a game. Such as lets say priests got set to heal 50% instead of 10% that is ONE NUMBER OF CODE. Now that is an easy fix but are you thinking of the real issue here. Finding the source to the problem can take a long time. Such as ai stopping and going stopping and going. While only one line of code MAY NEED to be changed to find that line they may need a lot of time.
Agreed. GPG is normally good about getting patches out as shown for Forged Alliance that kept getting patches (even if they took forever) several months aftyer it's release. Only the announcement of Supreme Commander 2 stopped it.
And only fire torchbearer can't attack while moving. I think this has something to do with the way his animation is.
Totally agreed. I tried to do some random map generation for Age of Empires once and it is IMPOSSIBLY HARD even to create the simplist map and get it to work as pleased. Not to mention all the triggers and specialized codes that need to be writen if anything new to the game is introduced.
I agree why haven't they fixed some of the smaller things but it may be because it causes a bigger issue. Hypothetically you could fix that sound glitch by having it just mute itself but it would still run in the background. Play multiple games and now you have 5 differant endgame sounds all looping in the background that you can't hear. Yeah you could say it was fixed but it isn't FIXED COMPLETELY. That would have an impact on you computers performance. The trouble isn't always fixing something. It is fixing it so nothing else is messed up.
Plus again in response to Windisch again. Stardock is a very good company in keeping the maker working on the game. GPG is generally a good company in balance. You have to think that there are 8 UNIQUE player to splay each with 4 active and 3 passive skills to balance. Thats 56 differant abilities needing balanced that still need to fit a Demigod's main concept yet be balanced. And connecting computer's through their firewalls and making sure they can connect is just as hard. Wouldn't you rather be able to play a buggy game then to have a perfect game you CAN'T play at all.
Yes, because support starts after the game is released. Before the game is released its called development.
Stardock has kick-ass support. GPG has poor development.
The publisher releases the product not the developer! The publisher pays the developers to fix the game.
This is one reason I say Stardock has kick-ass support. Even though it's really not their job to fix the game directly, they stepped in and allocated resources to help resolve the networking and some other issues. Not bad, no?
