I'll try to be positive, but its hard at the moment. I just played my very first 1.1 game (4v4 on Levi), and instantly, after his first death, 3 or 4 minutes into the game, Puck023 conceded.
3 or 4 minutes afterwards, Frostbyte2786, also instantly after his first death, conceded.
I know a lot of you are tired of hearing me complain about rage quitting, but I am tired of sitting down for a game and having it ruined. I know the concede option was added with good intentions, but I don't really think anything can be done about it. The community is just garbage.
So, after the stat reset, on my very first game, I get to eat a loss due to rage concedes.
There is no longer any reason to play Demigod at all unless you play with friends in premades, so that's exactly what I will do. And to all the people bitching about premades, you've all brought it on yourselves.
That's pretty much all we could have hoped for. Was anyone really expecting a concession feature to stop people from quitting?
Changing the verbage isn't going to change behavior. It just makes the whole experience less of a hassle for the winners.
tell us when you left? if you did anything other then play till the fall of your citadel youre no better then the 2nd guy who left.
The game designers shouldnt do a concede within a certain time limit. Disable it for the first 15minutes to half hour. So a real game can play out..before people giveup.
If everyone dutifully played every game for 15-30 minutes there would never have been a ragequit problem in the first place and the concede mechanic wouldn't have been introduced or even considered.
My main concern is that frogboy had stated that the majority of the team needs to vote to concede... Typically I play rook and I'm a slow starter. I can hold a lane but I don't get many early kills and a lot of my games look a bit grim for the first 5-10 minutes. Once I bulid up momentum things usually change pretty dramatically though and I the two guys on my team who would have stuck it before will just concede now and it'll end the game before I'm ready to give up.
The only change I would like to see is a majority vote for Conced. I have played two games tonight where 1 person took far to long to Conced and dragged out the game.
The only problem I've had with concede was one game when a guy was horribly laggy (his ping was spiking to anywhere from 400 to 800) he refused to concede and went AFK. So our choices were iether to play an incredibly long, boring, and laggy game, or concede... so we took a loss we didn't need because the game was so laggy it was unplayable and the other team had already started losing.
Other than that, it's worked great.
I disagree. It shouldn't be majority vote. It should be everyone on a team concedes or nothing happens. Personally, I like to go down fighting, so I don't expect to do much conceding. My team mates conceding will just let me know that they would like it to end, but are being nice enough not to just rage quit. If my whole darn team concedes I would probably concede just out of respect for them though, but only if there was little or no room for debate about the fact that we were going to lose.
A lot of you seem to be missing the point. They left before anything was decided. They died once and conceded. No "hassle" was lessened for me, it was in fact increased.
The situation compounded further because my one remaining ally would not conceed, forcing me to stick out a 2v4 or take the loss and leave.
Frankly, I'm about to say screw it and give up on Demigod.
It would have been the same as before had they just left though.
The conceding in this case changed nothing. Had your last ally conceded though it would have stopped the game.
My experience:After 12 min playing all other team conceded, no AI replacement, game was over (like you've destroy the citadel) and this are the stats:http://pantheon.demigodthegame.com/game/666429/player/34090/
Regarding the concede button, I don't think that many people know what the word "concede" really means. Regardless, when a full team leaves, the game is over. This is excellent stuff!
you stil don't get it do you?
you get teh loss either way man, if you stick out with a.i., if you all agree to concede, or if you're the first one to RQ
it's simply a fucking time saving function for the winning team nothing more
This is no different to most other RTSs really except in a lot of other RTSs, most nubs/medium players just tended to sit back, turtle and build up their economy.
So you had a period of 5-10 mins at the beginning where it felt like you were playing (altho in reality, u were just playing Sim City).
You'll find that as soon as you rushed people, most nub/medium players just quit (ie when the fighting starts).
The difference with DG is that the fighting starts from the beginning cos there's no base building.
The other difference is, on other basebuilding RTS's, you could put up towers/defend from your base, which might cost the opponent a fair amount of resources.
Here, if you get killed in the first minute, not only are u giving them few hundred gold (which is vital), you lose 20 seconds or whatsoever and all the time, he's levelling up.
By the time you get back into the fight, u might still be level 1-2, and he might be 3-4.
That's hard. But hey, it's the way it is.
I actually like the sound of how this should be working. With a bit of time and some experience, a lot of players should change their behaviour to suit. Either way, I am more than happy to play a full game and not concede unless everyone else wants it. 40 favour points for taking a loss, bargain. Anyone who is quitting now are just too stupid to figure out the basics, concede and wait for everyone else to concede, or play on and get some favour.
Awsomeness.
Look dude, you can shove the attitude up your ass, all you do in all of your posts is say that you don't have problems because you always win. GOOD FOR YOU. Now go jerk off the e-peen somewhere else you fucking mongoloid.
-back on topic
I guess I misunderstood the concede mechanic, I was under the impression that a team concede gave the conceding team favor as if they finished the game, quiting gives no favor at all.
if two of the players had quit in a 4v4 game, the remaining players are at an incredible disadvantage. I think two people conceding=team concede is reasonable.
I had my first concession win last night two, two people left a 5v5 brothers game (one from each team) over custom settings. Then a third person left, and their team conceded...I thought it was pretty lame, but I can understand as well. Meh. I WIN!
Conceding was not about fixing rage quitting. It was about some situations when you just wasted time, as the game was lost or it was unplayable. Simple as that.
But it needs some polishing:
-all players from the team must agree
-when some players asks for concede, the simple small white text message at the top of the screen is NOT enough, as i barely see it. I suggest making the text red, and/or putting it in the chat box. Or better, make a dialog box pop up for every team member, with a Concede? and Yes! or No! buttons. Basically a vote system and you get to see who voted for No and who voted for Yes, in case of vote fail. But i think this is too much to ask from GPG...
That's addressed by the current system. If the other team concedes, you collect your win and you can get into another game. You do not have to sit around and play the computer AI now. In other words, the current concede option benefits the winning team by saving them the hassle of playing AI players. Personally, I really enjoyed this feature when I had two teams after 5 minutes quit on me. I did not have to play out the match to get favor.
I do not agree that the vote has to be unanimous. If the majority of the team votes for concede, the game should ends. So in a 2v2 game, that would be 2 people. In a 3v3 game, it would also be 2 people. If more than half your team does not have the heart to keep playing, it's over and the other team should not have to sit there for another 10 minutes to finish it.
I do agree with you on how the mechanic should be presented. I did not even know there was a text message for concede on the top of the screen. When someone concedes, it should call a vote (but not stop the action) for the team with the time out vote being continue to play. Just like how the voting system works for FPS. Make it so that the concede option is not spammable.
If someone quits (after you don't concede), and AI takes over, they need to make your AI teamate = AI on Nightmare mode on single player games if the AI is far below the opponent, or at least Hard mode. That way its not automatic loss if someone quits and AI takes over.
i think you one of the game options should be how difficult the AI take over will be.....
Not a dev, but I hope I can help clear some things after reading the code.
If a person leaves the game it automatically adds a vote to concede for that player, so you will get the message that the leaver is requesting a concede (even though they quit, not conceded).
All players on a team must click concede to end the game. AIs are not counted.
If you are the last person to hit concede you should not see the "player has requested to concede" message.
If all players on one team quit that team automatically concedes and the game ends.
Hope this helps.
Thx Sorian, now it's clear how it works and it's ok. They just need to make it more visible, when someone asks for concede.
concede is great. you can never stop people from leaving, but now you don't have to bother with stupid ai only games anymore.
But thats the problem with the game now. I didn't pay $40 to play the first 5 mins of a game. It's not like most games last long if a teams getting absolutely rolled, 12 mins or so on the most played maps. So why not make it so the concede option isn't available for the first 10 mins of a game at least that way the rage quitters still get stuck with a DC(which i thought they said was going to be seen in lobbies) and if a game is still not salvageable the concede option pops to save people 5 or 10 mins.
The quick concede just hurts the people who actually enjoy playing games out. Ok everyone rage quits in the first 10 mins and i'm playing ai, fine end the game. But now if my team starts well the other team concedes out and i dont get to enjoy the game i'm winning. Which leave the other option, play a game out only when i'm losing, seems like a great system punish me for actually wanting to play the game the game i paid for. I know it hard to keep people from quitting games there losing and a concede option is an attempt to keep people in the game but giving them a way to rage quit and not have any punishment for it seems just as dumb.
