Ok, yesterday, I bough command and conquer the first decade. But I have a problem, which of the 12 games on there should I play first.
Shoudl I play from the oldest and then work my way up? or should I start from the latest game and "devolve"
The original C&C was awesome. It looks like utter crap now, though.
I'd say Red Alert 2 is a good starting point myself. It's getting up in years but has still aged fairly well.
I still remember those secret Giant Ant missions. I also remember a mission in Yuri's Revenge when you were in Hollywood controlling an Ahnuld-clone, minigun and all.
Ah, those were the days
Start from the beginning.
Edit:
I really enjoyed the Red Alert series, especially Yuri's Revenge.
Generals was a very good game as well. Some effort was made to differentiate the three sides a bit more than in previous games in the series. Maybe not the best place to start though, as Luckmann pointed out the graphics of the earlier games will bug you, especially if you start off with the 3D spinnable graphics of Generals.
Oh and don't bother with Renegade, it's a mediocre second rate FPS.
So Komnenos, I should play all of them except the renegade?
Certainly, they're all good games.
As for Renegade I suppose it depends on how much you like FPS games. I'm not the biggest fan of the genre myself. You may actually enjoy Renegade, but I personally didn't think it was up to the same standard as the other games.
Annatar is right, the original C&C was awesome back in 95, but now its basically unplayable, so is Red Alert 1 and so is Tiberian Sun.
This compilation pack only containt 2 playable/fun games for me; Red Alert 2/Yuri's Revenge & Generals/Zero Hour!
As for Renegade, Komnenos is right, you could enjoy it but its a long shot. Its an OK fps. Its not bad but its not very good either. Best way to know is for you to try it.
My recommnedations:
1. Generals
2. Zero Hour
3. Red Alert 2
4. Yuri's Revenge
5. Renegade (try it, maybe you will like it)
6. You can try Tiberian Sun & the others if you want but be warned that the graphics are TERRIBLE.
Good gaming to you!
And even voicing Tiberian Sun's graphics as terrible.. they are great!
Is it sad that I still vividly remember that first mission movie?
I'd have to go with a start from the beginning as well. Renegade has a very good multi-player mode as well, not just another deathmatch.
Still, makes me want to fire it up again. Plus I always like the unit designs.
Mooster, I dont know if you played/liked C&C Generals, but if you do like it I would recommend a much better RTS;
Act of War - Direct Action and the expansion; Act of War - High Treason.
Act of War is in MY book the best rts ever created since 2005. Each side is extremely well balance and the concept of POW is very well implimented. The story, the units, the structures feel very real. Its also quite cheap right now, around 10$ if I'm not mistaken. Highly Recommended!
IMO in this order;
C&C2
RA2
RA2 YR
Generals
Generals ZH
if you play Genrals 1st, then the UI/graphics may give u issues getting into C&C2
Wow, I have these sitting on my shelf at home. I'll have to install at some point. High praise.
As regards, C&C:TFD, certainly play through the Red Alert 2 games and you can give Generals a go. Honestly, I had a great deal of difficulty getting the older games to run properly on a modern machine. Personally, I was a bit uncomfortable playing the terrorist faction in Generals because it was a little too "real-world" for my taste (you control suicide-bombers, et cetera).
The sad truth is that a very large majority of gamers never heard of Act of War.
And that makes me sad, it really does!
People continu to buy/play C&C thinking that its "good". But nothing could be further from the truth. Act of War took that dying genre and actually created something wonderful.
The story is well played and makes a lot of sense.
The factions are EXTREMELY well balance, yet very different (unit wise and gameplay wise).
And most important of all Infantry units are very usefull. They can capture POWs, garrson buildings for added protection, use the roof of buildings for additional vintage points, hide in forests for bonus stealthed attacks and take out vehicles with deadly accuracy (Javelin Anti-Tank Soldiers, Kornet Squads). They can't win the war for you, but you can't win the war whitout them.
Warreni, you will not regret buying/playing this game. In fact I believe you will be back here very soon telling other people to go buy it. But its hard to find it right now, its been about 4 years already!
US Army: Units are cheap and mostly specialized (good at one thing). (B2, Marines, Abrams).
Task Force Talon: Units are expansive & versatile (can easily adapt to changing battlefield situations). (Heavy Sniper, Spinner Tank).
Consortium: Basic units are cheap and easily replacable (AK-74 Soldiers, BTR-80). Advanced units are very costly, stealthed and deadly. (Camo Soldier, Stealth Battle Tank)
Oh that is completely insane, don't be ridiculous. That's like saying Baldur's Gate is unplayable or something. If it's unplayable how did everyone manage to love it back when it was released?
Not only is the original C&C still a completely brilliant game, it's also still easy to control and play. A friend of mine has just bought the first decade and played through most of the titles, and he thought the original was the best aside from the first Red Alert.
I think this is a bit of an odd question anyway - it's a huge game series where you have all the titles. Why would you buy all the games if you were only going to play some of them? And if you're going to play all of them, then the only logical and common-sense way to play them is in the correct order? Otherwise, how will you see the evolution of the series?
Just play them all, they're all great games, they are all fun to play, and you will have a blast with every title. Just do it properly.
I dont know if you are just trying to get my attention or if you are serious, but my statement is not insane or ridiculous!
I have the first decade, so I know what I'm talking about! And I stand by MY point that the first 3 games basically unplayable!
The graphics are very bad & the gameplay sucks.
Did you know you can only build one unit at a time, and you cant queue them like you can now!
The gameplay is slow and the units are copy & paste on each others.
C&C, Red Alert and Tiberan Sun WERE very good back in 1995/1996/1999 when they came out, but today they suck!
Nothing good about the first 3 games in 2009. (Except maybe for nostalgia!!!)
I bought it for $2.19. With $4.00 shipping and handeling.
Samurye.
lol, the shipping/handling is more expansive than the game
Yeah. I also got two copies, brand new.
Why 2 copies???
I still love playing the original Red Alert from time to time. Yes it is old, but it is still very playable. But maybe I enjoy it more because it was my first introduction to the series (that I actually played - I do remember my best friend talking about the original game before).
The only C&C game I haven't played is Renegade, and that's mostly due to the fact that I can't play many FPS games for any real length of time. All of the others a a lot of fun.
Man, I loved Renegade, but when I got it, they had already taken down multiplayer support, which from what I can tell is the best part of the game. Good storyline and great gameplay though, especially if you like the series.
Yes destroying the various grinders
Ebay sold me C&C 3: Tiberium Wars for 0.01$ and 4$ in shipping and handling ! AWESOME PRICE
