Absolutely!
In fact, no other company has left such a strong impression on me since the days of pre-WoW Blizzard. The bad launch may turn out to be a good omen, Stardock has earned some serious street cred for sticking it out and not leaving us hanging.
Thanks to everyone at Stardock, and thanks to their families for putting up with the long hours!
Yes I will. It depends on the games mostly. I'm not interested in gal civ, sins, or elemental. I realize they would have more control of the game if they developed it.
If they were to publish demigod 2, I'll buy it right away.
no question i will buy from SD in the future.
GPG has developed games that we have spent hundreds of hours playing. once DG drops in price i will likely buy two copies and spend hundreds of hours playing it again. the only downside to that is that I have to take time away from SINS...sorry IC guys.
valve will still get some of my business but with new developers being added all the time to Impulse, i spend less and less time in Steam.
Honestly? Yes, I am less likely.
I have no interest in single player oriented games so I won't be buying Elemental.
Probably not. Stardock promised us a Sins ladder and matchmaking "in the very near future" over a year ago and never delivered- seems now like it was an EA-type marketing snipe for the Entrenchment release.
Impulse is alright, but it's inferior to Steam and the fact that Stardock games go out of their way to block Steam Community functions from being accessed ingame (yes, even with changed hotkeys) is a page right out of Microsoft.
And while I'm very happy with Frogboy's community updates, finding a functional Pantheon game still takes me about a half hour of retries and restarts every time.
Elemental LOOKS fantastic- reminds me of the Dominions line of Illwinter games that never got the love it deserved- but I'm not willing to suffer through EA and Microsoft tactics for a product that barely functions.
EA has no community support and comparing EA with Stardock is like comparing the worst thing in the world and a good thing in the world
Why is this question centered arround stardock products? In my eyes is GPG responsible for all problems beside the connection. And that the connection problems can't be solved in a week is understandable.
BUT I would really avoid GPGs games if they don't deliver what they promised.
E.g. at least 2 demigods! While I would even stay away from them if they only support demigod for so long that they only do to the script what they promised. Means 4 demigods should be in.
You need more tin foil hats.
While the release and first month of connection hell were pretty horrid they are getting things back on track now, so I don't really see why I wouldn't buy an SD game if it is one that interests me.
And Elemental looks pretty amazing, so I'm quite sure I'll be buying it.
Ill definitly be buying elemental. I enjoy supporting publishers who put in a bit of effort to make sure the game gets finished and who don't bog us down with DRM.
As for other Stardock titles, wait and see. I dont usually buy a heap of games becuase Id sooner just stick with a few good ones.
I will definetly buy more Stardock stuff. In fact, I already have. Elemental and ObjectDock+ FTW!
Shouldn't the question be will you be likely to buy more games made by Gas Powered Games?
SupCom: FA. Still no patch.
Space Siege: Sucked.
Demigod. Where the hell is GPG on the forums? With Sins of a Solar Empire I personally got to talk to Blair from Ironclad as well as Stardock people.
If Demigod has taught me anything it is that Stardock can take what would have been a disaster and turn it around. Imagine if Demigod had been published only by Atari or EA.
They just can't cope with companys like blizzard, relic etc.
huh? stardock doesn't make demigod.
don't you mean vivendi, thq?
+1 to OP.
This was the first game I've bought from Stardock and given their amazing support I will be much more likely to buy future games that have their label on it.
I mean, this is a case in point. Space Siege sucked hard and that was Gas Powered Games too. Does anyone even know who published Space Siege? I think it was Sega. Did they do anything after release to make it better? No.
but i love demigod so... maybe... we will see how much they care about demigod in the future..
I don't understand the comparison. Valve isn't a publisher. Besides, is this the same Valve that wants to charge me again for L4D2 a year after the first one?
It's episodic, *and* full priced
Past behavior very often predicts future behavior. Sans Valve's support of Team Fortress 2 and pledging such support for Left 4 Dead and then just going and developing a sequel instead of getting content in the game that should have been there on day one and readying that sequel for release less than a year before the release of the first game... For a game that was supposed to receive significant updates ala Team Fortress 2 whose content has easily grown to 6x-8x what it was at launch while still continuing to turn a very nice profit...
But thus far Stardock has been nicely consistent in supporting the games I've bought from them and as long as they keep that up they will always have the benefit of my doubt- the only reason I bought Demigod on the second day of its release was because of extremely good words from a friend of mine who also plays DotA and because it carried the Stardock name (my apologies, but I'm not the greatest of Supreme Commander fans so the GPG name didn't help much) and I've been quite happy with my purchase thus far.
Simply put....
I will never second-guess purchasing another product that has the Stardock name attached to it!
Why?
Because I'm a fanboi
Why am I a "fanboi"?
Simple really. They (unlike most other publishers) actually stand behind their products 100%.........100% of the time. No exceptions. That gets my vote 100% of the time.
the Monk
% overload critical...
stardock did not make DG GPG games did and i will think twice before buying a game from them. stardock has my respect due to the only time you could point the finger at them was last saturday fiasco
I would not have any issues buying a stardock game again.
Stardock provides quality customer service and has a great distribution platform. i would buy from them again.
GPG is a talented design studio that has made some mistakes on some of their products. i feel no particular loyalty to GPG because they're so hit or miss. from GPG i'd buy the product if i wanted it, the GPG name-tag on a product isn't gonna convince me to buy it though.
but with Stardock i feel confident that buying a product PUBLISHED by them means i'll get the best support in the industry and an open communication channel with the CEO of the company who publishes and distributes the product. thats what i love about Stardock.
As for GPG, my impression is that they make good games, but are slow on the patches and a bit quiet when it comes to communicating with their customers. I'll still almost certainly get SupCom2 when it comes out, though.
Stardock is a good company, this game just failed. It's fine, a company can't be perfect ALL the time. See Space Siege.
this is my first game from stardock....I have played many multiplayer games.....but no company I know provided the quality services that stardock did...
I for one will buy thier next games ( elemental looks great )
but who failed, GPG as a game studio or Stardock as a publisher? SD can only be blamed for the multiplayer part, and though yes it sucked they ARE working hard on it. combine that with the reason it failed (something that was only 50/50 testable) I think Stardock failed at nothing, they just made one bad choice (being Raknet). So your comment needs a bit of nuancation, and I bet that's not an english word
