I would like to hear your ideas for different planet and star types. I am making a mod called Galactic Sins which is the ultimate planet and star mod. I would like to see at least 100+ planet types and 15+ star types.
The rules:
No planets that are already in another mod
Post any idea that you think is good
If you want you may post a picture or a texture that you have already made. You will get full credit.
@Mooster: I know.. What I meant was that the buildable ones would be military (bc of weapons) and the capturable ones would be civilian and considered by the game to be planets...
@Jack: yeah, it has been...
what about stellar nurseries as a star? Not a normal Nebula, but a huge one with actual stars in, that create large gravometric turbulence through the areas, and so damage the hull, even through shields.
Also, what about a particle fountain?
well, just modify the unstable gas pockets from gas giants and that'll take car of that, but what do you mean by a particle fountain?
Hey, my screenshot didnt show up, how do I get it to work?
Ummm.. I don't know...
Ok, i got it. This is incomplete and untextured but I wanted to know what you think of the model:
For two planets, it looks fine, but two stars would be stretched until there was a small bridge between them or at least be lopsided...
they are planets
"Magnetar....huge star with an enormous magnetic field
Could possibly have an enormous grav well but players would have to navigate manually to avoid the gravity of the massive star.
Could also have true fog of war in the grav well. Meaning only a limited Line of Sight instead of the entire grav well because the star interrupts sensor systems." You pretty much just defined a Pulsar. a pulsar is a small star with an immense gravitational pull, enourmous output of deadly radiation, and extremlely bright.
How about this that you build around a planet as a civilian structure. They would hold populations about as much as a terran planet. This one is kind of Vasari style but the other races would have different ones. Again, I just threw it togther but I will add detail and a texture if you like it.
@Planet Post: Ok...
@Decimator: Why stop at a pulsar when you could do a quasar? This is of course already in 7DS, but all the same.. What would be cool though, would be if it could sweep like a lighthouse. Think Cleansing Brilliance, only on steroids. Any ship or starbase would be decimated in the blast and would mean that any movement through the well would require a lot of microing. This would also stop people from basing stars and just isolating their systems indefinately...
@soas:
In case it wasn't obvious enough, that looks awesome. My only comment would be that I would think that based on how they like to control things from space, the Vas would have theirs float, but if you modified it a bit, you could make that the human or advent one. At any rate, that thing is absolutely awesome!
Now, where have I seen this before? Oh well, yes, that's a good idea.
Okay, another idea: a graveyard/zombie planet. Uncolonizable, but the entire planet is either covered in remains or zombies. This horror gives a moral/survival instinct boost, which results in shorter weapon cooldowns and increased speeds to all ships in orbit.
Seems like my idea of a logistic structure that supports population.
Samurye.
Or at least if you are trying to leave.
Perhaps have it so that as you increase the population, new orbital platforms are unlocked. Perhaps you could have it be researchable. At first, Terran planets only get 280, but then you can research to add more. There would be three items. The low and moderate expansion are already in existance, but a third, called, "Off-world Settlement Platforms," would change the mesh of the planet to include that thing. As you expand the level of OwSP, the ring continues around until it is a true ring. (It is first just on two opposite sides, then you add two more, thus splitting it into quarters and then after that, you complete it.) The population increase would be as follows: 30%/40%/50% and would certainly be expensive. A 50% buff to tax from your home planet would certainly be a nice little buff...
I guess another option here is to make it a seperate, researchable structure that takes up 8 logistics slots and just floats around in the gravity well and increases the local population. I don't know... Just spouting off random information...
I was thinking it would be researchable and you biuld it from the logistics menu. It would then apear around the planet and be built for 15000 credits, 10000 metal and 5000 crystal. Another way would be to put the planetarry upgrade menu.Then it would change the mesh of the planet.
Also I am currently working on the TEC one. Will post screenshots when finished.
I need a design for the Advent one, I cant think of one.
Probably the best way would be the planetary upgrades menu... Make it so you have to research first though. Perhaps.. This is just perhaps here, but what about in the process, you endow the planet with a defense ability. Not a powerful one, just something to be rid of one or two krosovs/purges showing up randomly while your fleet is away.
I was thinking about giving abilitys and weapons to them. The TEC one Im working on has a hanger.

Is anyone even here because Im starting to wonder...
Yes. It has only been about a day. Don't be so impatient
No, its just that you and Volt are the only ones that have been posting here. But yes, I am being impatient.
Well if you have room for some more convensional planet ideas...
Digital/Cypernetic/Virtual - Whole planet is basically a super high tech fortress or its entirely computer generated. Could give virtually any bonus you want (damage bonus, build time decrease etc.)
Mutated - High levels of radioactivity have mutated all life on this planet, covering it in strange, allien and dangerous flora and other lovely life forms.
Cavernous - Surface of the planet is inhospitable for whatever reason, but below the surface is a vast cavern system capable of supporting life. Very high planet health.
Iron Oxide planet - Good old red mars like planet.
Acidic planet - Planet is always experiencing acid rain like venus.
So the moon and the earth was together
Okay, asteroid with a space worm in it that eats your ships.
TOO MUCH STAR WARS!
Try a planet where it's all urbanized... (dang! that's in Star Wars 2)
Oh, and for the record, that's Mars next to the Earth in that above pic... becuz the Moon isn't red and doesn't have clouds the last time I looked up...
