I have always been a big Metroid fan since 4th grade, and I have had the idea of creating a Mtroid game or mod for nearly as long. When I got GC2, I realised that it would be a great platform for a Metroid mod. Originally, I thought I was the only Metroid guy on the forums, but an odd little conversation over at Elemental convinced me to go public:
Set at some point between Prime: Echoes and Prime: Corruption, this mod enables you to control any of the major players in the Metroid universe:
I intend to have complete tech trees, conversations, flavor text, and shipstyles for all races, as well as new music, a new UI, new improvements, and planets.
PREVIEW PACK RELEASE APLHA: After a few months of looking for a suitable upload for my Preview Pack, I have finally been able to get it posted here! During the wait, I completed a new minor race: The Enoema (aka. Kanden). There are also new terrein pics for the planet screens (no new planets, yet, though), and PARTIAL FlavorText conversions. The site is only good for up to 30 days, but I hope to have MUCH more on the way by then!
Questions? Comments? Requests?
Also, if anyone has expericance with 3-D modelling or animation and is willing to make weapon FX or ship parts, please drop me a post: I've been trying to tech myself how to use Blender, but I'm just too busy with the rest of this ungodly massive mod to make much headway.
UPDATE 004: Well, after a long hiatus betatesting EWOM, I'm back at the mod with a vengreance! Already replaced the entire GC2 soundtrack with music from the Metroid series, and have gotten a good way through the Luminoth tech tree. Also been working on the economic and improvement systems, although Wii difficulties have prevented me from screenshotting any pictures. I also plan to redo the UI, but that's still a loooooooong way off.
Movies and popups are done! Fox, I would really appreciate getting a few new ship models, but I've got a lot of other stuff to do as well, so there's no real rush.
All hail commander Ridley!
P.S: If anyone knows how the weapon animations work, I would greatly appreciate tips on how to make them in Blender.
Darn, some of the hazards of computing can even delay you long enough to think a bit more over whatever you had in mind for a few minutes?
Don't ...panic.
** Press any key **
The latest estimate of brain gigs is near infinite... i can even remember a basic code from a spring '74 Telex -- and it wasn't Hello World; Queen takes Knight.
Well, looks like that wierd hacker group (cartel? lobby?) that wiped out most of ImageShack got a few of my pics.... in any case, it doesn't matter terribly much.... the tech tree will proabably be done by the end of the month...
If some tricky cyber-attacks could knock over that many US gov sites during last week-end, i'd say webmasters & sysops have been busy with plumber wrenches to plug holes everywhere since.
Even, my.ImageShack.us is reacting strangely this afternoon.
Yeah, although I don't think that the two were connected. This one replaced all the images with a rather bizzarre maniphesto written in "hackerish".
Also in the OP, as usual.
Status Update 003: Tech tree plan is now fully recovered from the ether, and I have added in a few things that I missed last time, including the technology victory. Here is a picture of the chart (I realise that it may seem too tiny to read, but if you blow it up it is legible. The black borders indicate techs that I have actually entered in the tree):
I have now figured out i-Mod's uploading system, and the Preview Pack is available there: http://www.i-mod-productions.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=139. There is some oddness with the music files, but the supplemental packs are easy to figure out.
Well, I've finally created the base tech tree, and it's positively enourmous! I tried to use actual technology from the games as much as possible, but some things like culture-bombing didn't quite "translate". I made them up as I went along. A sendoff to Stefan and crew for cooking up the Techviewer, btw.
A few side notes: the weapons are NOT connected to the second tech in each group- they are actually linked to the first. Also, I realized too late that "Ideological Revolution" should be purple, not yellow, but am too lazy to go back and change it....
Now to do 12 more of these!
EDIT: F you, ImageShack! Sorry, folks, but the tree will remain at this illegible resolution until I can find someplace that will take such a huge file!

Good luck with you mod if you need any help don't hesitate to ask have fun.
Anybody know what happened to MrKorx's excellent Starbase module editor? I've looked all over for the thing, but it's nowhere to be found.....
I'll have some pictures of things I want modeled up fairly soon, but for now I'm working on the economic skeleton. Going pretty well, especially now that I know how AI values work......
it hasin't been released yet but if you pm here and at imod he might send it to you.
Ok, one thing I will need modeled is the Ceres Station from Super Metroid (for use as an economic starbase hull). The pictures I've found only show one side of the thing, but I'm assuming that it looks the same on both ends. I'll add the extras and other components for the thing myself.
and
are you including the metroid as a playble race or a non playble one our are they the secret race.
I'm actually not sure what to do about the Metroids themselves, since the common ones (most likely the queens, primes, and mutants, too) are nonsentient and have no capacity for technology. The Space Pirates will likely have some 'troid-realted technologies as significant parts of their tech tree (use of infant Metroids as organic batteries and the like) and I was thinking of using Metroid eggs as a resource or tactical objective of some kind, but other than that it's still wide open.
Improvements are largely done (albiet without graphics for the vast majority of them), although I plan to pepper in a few more special ones as I go. I'm shifting my focus to the weapons tree: I'm a good way through a third of them, and a few of the defenses, too. Of course, they look aweful as well, but I'll get to that later.
Some (boring) pics of my improvements and their places in the tech tree.
Very nice will keep in eye out for the completed version Im done with my mass effect techtree but not the improvements XML.It takes much longer to do the xml for the improvements than it does the techtrees our is that just me.But anyway keep up the good work pm me if you need help.
Tip: the improvement editor works just as well (if not better) and is considerably faster than the XML method.
Took a break from making weapons to cook up my first original planet texture, for Elyisa. It's pretty ugly, but it sort of does resemble the original, so I'll take what I can get.The "real" Elysia. My version. The yellow's a bit off, but still.....
very nice I see you worked on the ships to.
Not really, thay've just been recolored.
I. Just. Accidentally. Overwrote. My. Entire. Weapons. System. To try and fix my copy of KHSM. And I didn't even succeed in fixing that.
Urk.....
Outch, the pain of NOT_HAVING_MADE_A_GOOD_SOLID_BACKUP.
It happens to the worst of us... even i was unlucky enough to waste a couple of weeks last year on a silly messed MBR flaw. Granted, now i *DO* have proper reset files handy -- just in case.
Nice planet, btw.
you really save your data on a flash drive thats what I do after a virus wipe my computer out awhile ago.
no big loss, most of the early weapons were out of balance/had crappy graphics anyway.... besides, I needed an excuse to get the flavortext done.
