First, sorry if this is not the right place to post this, but here we go:
I got steam-engined PC (so f**kin' true), and mostly in the summer, there is an awful squeak noise coming from the graphic card or form the hard disk, I don't know for sure. The noise is coming when I'm playing games that need quite a bit of resourses, some various multitasking (MSN, browser, Winamp, Word etc.), today I even heard it when I was watching a HD movie on youtube FFS!! It's happening mostly in the summer because it's hotter, I think.
I KNOW I should upgrade my PC immediately, I'm waiting for my father to come back from his abroad job.
The noise is a squeak, high-pitched and annoying!!!!
Very similar to this. But not that long, it's just a second. But, still, It makes me wanna shoot the dog!!!
And sorry for the teeeeeeeeeeeeerrible English.
Sure it's not just something stuck in the fan? One time I had a wire that once in a while would end up touching the cpu fan and made crazy noise.
Yes, I'm sure. When it's on standby or just sits like that, there is no noise. The noise is coming only when I torture him.
Hope you have more than one dog, then
Sometimes a high or unstable voltage of the power can cause this, did you check your power supply?
Oh, annatar, man, how come you reply so fast? Have you considered changing your name to Forum-Stalker-no1 ??
Never thought about that. How can I check if this is it??
Turn down ur 'Loud and Clear'
It's the fan on the graphic card or power supply.
I agree. I'd suspect PSU.
Although that sound could also be coming from the motherboard speaker. Does it sound like maybe that's happening? It could be the over-heat alarm going off. Usually that's more of a beep than a squeal, though.
You're English is actually quite excellent.
You even know hwo to properly use the comma.
Most native english speakers dont even know hwo to do that.
+1 for humility.
Well it does get annoying when someone is speaking and they pause to say "comma".
I don't think it's the motherboard because AFAIK the PC will restart or shut down randomly if it's an over-heating problem. Thx anyway.
There is no hope. I tried playing a game on low, medium and high detail levels and results are:
low-noisy slideshow medium-noisy slideshow high-noisy SUPER slideshow
Also when I was watching the HD movie on youtube, whenever the noise was appearing, the video player was like a slideshow....O..(squeak)...M...(squeak)...G...
I hope it's the graphic card. If it is the hard disk, well.... I'm gonna lose all the data on it and.... f**k.
Have you cleaned the inside of the PC?
It's not the motherboard, it's a fan. Stcik a pencil in the fan of the power supply next time it happens. If the sound stops, it's the power supply. I don't suggest sticking a pencil in the graphic card but if it's not the power supply it's the graphic card.
Oh man gonna do this right after the cognac party I'm going to right now. Cheers!!
a helpful way to find out just where a noise is coming from when it's hard to tell is to get an empty paper towel tube and hold it to your ear while moving around different areas of the case.
it will help focus what you hear.
hold the paper towel tube to the PSU, video card, hard drive and other various points, the spot you hear the loudest is the culprit.
Might be your chip fan, especially if it's an Asus.
Download some softs to check your GPU/CPU temps.
If it's a very short timed sound it's unlikely to be a fan related problem. Remove any discs from the CD/DVD-device and pray that it goes away. If it doesn't, my guess is that your hard drive is singing its last tune. HW Monitor will tell you if you have any temperature related issues. Any temperature above 50C is bad (Depending on your hardware, it may not apply to CPU/GPU).
Thx to Night Train, I solved the problem. It was the damn dust.
Temperatures are fine
Thx again everybody!!
