I just want to point out that Custom Games are where Premade Teams go to Play.
There's nothing wrong with Premade teams in custom games. They are following the proper channels and playing in the appropriate place.
If you are joining a custom game, you should be aware that the other people in that game may be/probably are a premade team. Don't be surprised when the enemy team coordinates well together.
If you do not want to want to play with a premade team, if you want to play with other solo flyers, you should probably use random automatch (skirmish or pantheon). That's what it's for.
If you insist on playing custom games and you don't want to play with a premade team it really is your responsibility to inquire. Because odds are, yes they are a premade team. That's why they are playing a custom game.
Custom games are where premade teams go to play. Be aware of it and please don't be surprised when they come into your game.
Just so we're all in agreement.
isnt it obvious?
If you want be a member of the "premade teams that not complete pricks" club you will advertise yourself as a premade. Unless you are the type of player that gets off stomping all over a bunch random players.
This.
I know custom games are, atm, best suited for premade teams, but they are also the source for the best connections and options. If I want to play Cataract 3vs3, I can't specify that in the other modes so I have to go to a custom game that matches my criteria.
That said I don't usually want to play 3 people who have played together since release. "Pre-made teams" are basically clans, and playing with only your clanmates against random players is basically clan-stacking. Not to mention you're probably running vent in the background for tight coordination while our random teammates chase butterflies around the map. This isn't an issue to me if you let us know you're a premade and that we should nab a few others from a premade of our own to play you, but the way most premades let you know they're premade is by kicking you from the game if you try to join their team which has mysteriously stacked all 4 guys down at darkness after creating the lobby.
no, i disagree.
If we are following the normal appropriate channels to do what we do it shouldn't be our responsibility to advertise. It should be your job to inquire.
If you don't want to play with a premade you have plenty of other places to go. The premade team has no other options.
It has nothing to do with getting kicks off stomping a bunch of random playes.
The team shouldn't be obligated to apologize or advertise the fact that they are following the normal and accepted route to play the game with friends.
When you jump into a custom game, it should be assumed that you are going to play with a premade team. That's what it's for, that's where they go to do there thing. If you're really concerned about it it's your responsibility to inquire.
If you REALLY don't want to play with premade teams you have plenty of other options.
When you join a custom game, you are entering premade team land. You should know what to expect.
Sight.....let me put it this way. Premade teams are NOT going to tell you before hand that they are...doesnt matter hwo much you whine. So...if you dont wanna fight a premade team....inquire before hand the game.....OR fase the CONSEQUENCES.
Thats the way its working right now, and its the way its gonna work unless GPGP/Stardock does something.
cheers
This is a convincing argument. (your post came up while i was typing my reply to post #2).
So it looks like both sides can do more to communicate. But the point remains that players really shouldn't be suprised to encounter premade teams in a custom games.
It's a fact players should be aware of, and if they are really concerned about it they should inquire. I think it's unfair to place all the responsibility on the team to announce themselves.
It has nothign to do with getting kicks from stomping disorganized uncoordinated teams. (that is decidely not very fun) It's a simple matter of not having to apologize for following the expected and appropriate routes. That's where the teams go to do their thing. They shouldn't have to walk on eggshells to do it.
It is painfully obvious and true that pre-mades currently only waltz around the custom game landscape (Note all of the multiplayer games that always jump to 3/6 immediately) (unless they are utilizing the pantheon connection info to thier advantage and getting thier pre-made team in on pantheon matches)
<shrug>
I believe the main problem here is only that they need other outlets which they do not have at the moment, as many groups would prefer to play in a more competitive arena (clan pantheon or some such business) where they either have some form of recongnition (rank) or otherwise.
So at the moment if you are a loner playing online (I am for example) it's rather detrimental and not as fun to play custom games since in many cases your team may not even be able to compete with the other team...which can be frustrating.
Now I don't think there is any moral obligation to tell others you're playing with friends (sometimes that's even a handicap to you since your friends might not be as experienced) however I do believe it could be highly beneficial to have a random team option within the lobby/game options so that you would know that the teams were randomized (which may unbalance things again, however at least you know things weren't stacked against you).
I think 'premade teams' are jsut the same as team stackign in a FPS and are therefor bad sports. Even when playing pub with my TF2 clans etc. I'll never stack... and if it is stacked I'll change teams.
Where is the fun in squashing a non 'premade' clan team? Seriously if you want competitive team play sign up to one of the many DG ladders around. Squashing folks on a pub is never nice in any game. It's rude.
It's not up to people to decide thsi it's up to you to host a game saying 'Clan/Premade only plz' it's not that fcking hard. Have some consideration for people who don't have a clan to play with.
Use your brains.
I regularly play with a friend, sometimes two. I infinitely prefer a close down to the wire fight to a walk-over. In fact walking over a newbie team in Demigod is absolutely boring as shit as the only real satisfaction in killing other players is the challenge in actually besting someone who is incredibly hard to kill. Walking over noobs is NOT satisfying and not how i choose to spend my next 20 minutes.
That being said I never advertise it when i am playing with my friends. Why? It's pretty obvious, you'll never ever find opponents. Maybe in the USA where you seem to have ten times as many players sure, but certainly not in Australia. My game hosts are always Aussie 3v3 or 4v4, that's it.
Luckily most of the time - because we have a smaller community - the player skill across the board makes for an intense interesting battle. But that's the long and short of it.
And for the record, i also spend a lot of time playing solo in games i randomly join. I generally prefer going against premades for the challenge. I detest when they're farming a nub on my team though. That's my biggest issue with demigod - when you have a feeder on your team it screws you so badly that invidual skill of the other teammates cant help. I've even tried going Sedna and healing a feeder who kept over-extending and found i just kept getting owned myself as i was wasting my heal on an idiot.
For all the things people say about Sedna, there is no way she can save a bad player.
And I agree, feeders are so frustrating because they lead the opponents to have such a decisive victory. You can know with 100% certainty the reason you lost is because your teammate died repetitively.
I used to play as part of a premade, we stopped when, like Deepjay, we got bored. Being at War Rank 10 while the enemy is at WR2 isn't even remotely interesting.
Suffice to say if you're in a premade and using voice comms you're going to have a giant advantage over your opponents, so don't be surprised when they leave in under 10 minutes.
Yes, it's very obvious.
And no, I'm not going to enquire about whether you are a premade team every time I join a lobby. You don't announce yourselves when you join mine, and consistanty start shit by refusing to play on opposite sides, expecting the rest of the lobby to move around to accommodate you.
For the person who mentioned stacking in FPS games, I agree, it's exactly the same and it's frowned upon by pretty much everyone. The problem is that Demigod exacerbates the issue by making people start the game again from scratch if the teams are stacked.
i regularly join matchups against pre-made teams specifically because its the best fight i'll find all night.
not that i'm super pro or anything, just average (maybe slightly above average), but i like a challenge. even as i'm getting stomped by a good team i'll try to watch and learn. sometimes i can even chat with them about strategy as i'm getting my face pounded. SOMETIMES I EVEN WIN! yeah, there are plenty of good players that are attracted to competitive matches so sometimes a spontaneously assembled team can be a good matchup against a pre-made.
all i'm saying is, if this game is going to have a real community it needs to embrace the spirit of competition. there's no shame in losing against skilled opposition. man up, go get your butt kicked and learn a thing or two. talk to them and see if you can get an invite into their playgroup some time.
A good point, I would also argue this game desperately needs a functional ladder/ranking system in addition to a functional skirmish/pantheon area where players casual players can go to have a fun multiplayer experience without getting stomped.
Germ, this is what I've been screaming all over these forums, but it seems to be falling on deaf ears. Player rank matching will solve sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many issues. Including a lot of rage quitting.
Isn't the future Clan Wars DLC mentioned by Frogboy supposted to rectify this for the most part?
Another thing that'll help is when (if?) they impliment in-game voice chatting so that even random strangers on a team'll have some form of communication that's better than typing to allies.
What's the big deal about inserting (PREMADE) into the server title so
1.) We don't have to waste our time connecting to the server only to fight a pretty unfair fight.2.) We don't have to inquire if you are a premade only to get kicked or face 10 minutes of silence since no one wants to actually admit they are a premade.3.) We don't have to alt-tab to check the stats, see your recent games, see you've been playing together all day, alt tab back in, demigod crashes from the alt tab bug, have to restart the game, reenter MP, find a new lobby, blah blah blah.
Seriously, there is no excuse to make people go through this shit. Just stick those seven letters in the server title and save us some time and headache. I don't understand why people think it should be a pain in the ass for the guest to find out what he's getting into before the game actually starts.

No seriously, after enough 2v1+ai matches in pantheon & skirmish I aim for some custom games which can be even 5v5s with no connection errors and mostly less ragequiters.
But playing vs premades is just "getting stomped". And it's not fair to hide that if you are a premade team.
If you are honest to yourself: if you don't tell your enemys that you are premade you want to have weaker enemys to stomp em or at least you are not interested in balanced & fair matches (which would mean premade vs premade).
Imho it should be the etiquette to at least say that you are a premade team ingame if you not better anounce that in the game name.
If we had a RANDOM TEAMS option, threads like these wouldn't exist.
Still beating that drum...
I wouldn't use it. I want to know what characters my team are playing as so I can pick one that will suit.
Koz
wtf if you do not want to play with premades do not join in custom games. better yet you take the initiative to ask if the other team is premade.
so you expect the host to repeat to everyone that joins this is a premade team.
if it bothers you ask yourself
custome games are for premades later on there will be skirmish/path premade join options.
why play a multiplayer game if you do not meet people you like gamen with and stick with them.
whats the big deal if you come into the game and ask.
if you do not want to fight agianst premades ask when you join the game. to put premade in the line of the game name would make the name toooo long. i would rather tell people not to come if they know they have low sim and what country i am in. so i do not get the euros/aussies or whatever overseas players trying to join my game.
i usually put 3s/4s us/can high sim/good lag<--- this tells the people what i want as opponents or team members. also most of the time i am only teamed with 1 other and the 1 or 2 are pugged.
As i keep sayen if it bothers you to play premades then its up to you to ask if its a premade game
See point (2).
just keep a list of premades names and avoid them
well then they where asshats.
if i am in a premade they ask i say yea if its me and anothers i say just 2 of us
also there is no other place for premades to play at atm.but custome games are the most stable games for a solo player as well.
agian ask if they do not tell you if you ask them do you really think they gona put it in the name of the game.
