I had my cheap old mouse die on me in the middle of a demigod game which lead to and interesting scramble for an alternative before the otherside killed me. Miraculously, I didn't die. Anyhow, I ended up buying a MS Comfort Optical Mouse 3000 since it was 50% off. It took me a while to adjust to the new mouse. I ended up disabling a few of the features to turn it into a basic 3 button mouse + scroll wheel. That got me wondering what kind of mice other people use for gaming and what mouse button and scroll wheel settings they use.
So I'm asking you guys, which mice do you use and what configuration settings do you have set?
Gyration Go air mouse, but I normally use it on the desk like a normal mouse. Sometimes, if I've been playing for many hors, I'll get up and use the gyro function, but it's slower in that mode. My main reason for using it is that it's the most comfortable and quiet mouse I've ever used.
I've got a Logitech G7 wireless. I love it.
This mouse looks wicked though: http://www.roccat.org/Products/Gaming-Mice/ROCCAT-Kone/ anyone have it?
I've seen those advertised and have been impressed. Is it comfortable? Most importantly, how heavy are the button clicks? I prefer soft and quiet. Easier on the knuckles and all.
(edit - fat fingered typo)
I also have a Wacom tablet but I mainly use it for my other games in which I don't need zoom and 3d manpulations, go AOE... but I even have a larger tablet...the SMART whiteboard, which is kinda cool, I need to zoom, I do what you do when you zoom on the iPhone, and for other movements, I use the same technology as mouse gestures, etc
I have a G5 Laser (wired - no pad, just a decent desk/table) on all 3 computers I use (Work, Home, Laptop.)
As far as keyboards go, MS Natural Ergo 4000 for both home and work. (I've been thinking of stocking up on these, in case they ever stop making them, it has been my favorite by far, with 20-25 years of keyboard use.)
Err, why does everyone like Wireless mice so much? From my experience, they hog batteries and have a good tendency to malfunction... Maybe I just had a bad one. To each his own, I guess.
I use the Logitech MX-1000.
It is a wireless laser mouse.
I have had for about 3 years now, and it is the best mouse I have ever had.
It is programmable, comfortable, and best of all - rechargeable.
When I bought my computer it came with a wireless mouse that took 2 AA batteries, which expired at least every 3 weeks. So I would spend around $6-10 a month in batteries for the da*n thing.
I spent $90 on the MX-1000 three years ago, so I have saved (at least) over $126 so far in battery costs. It has worked flawlessly. And not having a cord to get in the way is always a plus.
pseudomelon, does that answer your question?
If you mean the G7, I find it very comfortable. Fits well in my hand and the button clicks are smooth and light. Very low clicking sound.
I've only ever had this G7 as far as wireless goes. I was reluctant to get one because of all the stuff I read about lag time and battery performance. I'm glad I decided to try it out myself. Best mouse I've ever used. I play SINS with this and have never noticed a lag. It's not too heavy, comes with two rechargable batteries and the battery charger has a quick charging cycle.
Check out Razer Mamba. It runs both wired AND wireless. Judging from the reviews it's the best gaming mouse available... It's quite expensive though, and it lacks a microwheel which would annoy me hugely.
I use to use any old mouse like many of the people who posted before me until I bought my first good mouse years ago. Since then, I havent turned back. I now have a heightened sense of importance for mice. Anyhow, I use a Logitech MX510 ... it's served me extremely well over the years but it's almost time for a new one.
Every microsoft mouse I've used didn't work properly.
Absolutely. A programmable mouse makes my nerd-desire proc.
I use microsoft wheel optical mouse, I have had no probs with it and its sits snugly in my hand.
A week ago I bought a Microsoft Sidewinder X8. So far it is the best mouse I have ever owned. No lag whatsoever is FPS and WoW. It is just slightly larger than a normal mouse, I was using a Logitech MX Revolution, but I quickly got used to it. It is also programmable and rechargable.

Pen is programmable, three very silent clicks, scroll wheeling -- mouse pad stopped gathering dust and infrared or batteries aren't USB. Needletip pointing accuracy instead of lateral wrist moves, i sign checks with a ball ink -- it's only natural to have a reflex by hand rather than fingers or pencil(s).
Must be the artist looking for a brush load of aquarel, again.
Had i been given this technology back then, canvases could have rolled out the assembly line in minutes rather than days -- without the mousing cheese or shadowed arrows.
Cursed that i was by perspectives beyond 3D, my friend.
Logitech NX 50 Laser mouse
I would agree with you, all my mice are wired
for productivity and gaming I use a microsoft intelimouse explorer 2.0, wireless and before that another intelimouse that was wired (would have got a wired one but alas wireless only now it seems). I like the shape and number of programable buttons. had it over a year and have changed batteries twice.
logitech, had a bad experience many, many moons ago (cheap and unreliable) and have dissed their product line ever since.
for fun and pleasure I use the disney minnie-mouse.
Um... All cheap mice are unreliable, not just logitech. Dissing a company for a single bad experience is ridiculous, if I did that, I wouldn't be able to buy anything from anyone.
sounds like you have had a lot of bad experiences, I'm sorry to hear that. I usually have them only once cause I diss their products after having one (marriages and OSs' excluded). I guess if they were all crappy then it would be a difficult choice, but they are not. AND while this is not necessairly true; if it's cheaper than the others, there usually is a reason, you pay for what you get.
It's not that bad, it's just years of experience of working with computers. Done pretty much everything from selling computer parts/building systems to managing corporate networks. If it's hardware related, I've done it.
My point is that I've had bad experiences with pretty much every major brand out there in pretty much every area. Dell, HP/Compaq, IBM, Intel, AMD, Asus, Kingston, Microsoft, Logitech, Microstar, Gigabyte, 3com, Cisco, Sun... the list goes on.
I've been more or less been forced to choose between buying unbranded crap or buy from companies I've got previous bad experiences with. The truth is, ALL companies release crap every now and then, it doesn't necessarily mean that everything they do is crap though. Logitech has made quite a few crappy keyboards and mice over the years, but they did learn from their mistakes and most of the stuff they release today are solid.
By dissing a brand after a single incident, you miss out on a huge lot of excellent hardware (getting repetitive, but specially the microwheel on logitech mice.. ).
not to disagree, I understand what you're saying and I have no idea about what logitech's microwheel is all about.
however, if I had a choice between two identical mice, one by logitech at $50 and one by MS at $60, I'll spring for the extra $10 because the MS mice have been reliable. my experiences have not been that bad (again marriages and OSs' excluded) not to be able to find consistency in quality products offered. if my experiences were reversed I'd be praising logitech and dissing MS, just how it works.
Damn, mine must be old as it wasn't even mentioned. Logitech LX3.
Read all about it in this PDF if you're curious.
It's because it was made specifically for men who like to dress in womens clothing.
... or it's just old. Don't think you can buy them anymore actually.
Might as well go for Keyboards too;
Y-UQ85 by Logitech, black, Programmable F's, search, pause, volume control -- Rock&Roll.
Multi-Linguistic from a few brain cells memory but it types. Still having troubles with QAZ but it's still surgically solvable -- so they say and never gave up on the carpal tunnel ligament, EMG on the 12th wish me luck. The numpad is on the right (or wrong) side.
9/10th of my data carreer is over. Think again, i'll find me a device if i must.
After a few rounds of hand therapy (for arthritis) I got an Evoluent mouse:
