Whenever i try to connect to a game i sit there for 5 mins watching as only 2-4 people are online, on the rare occasion that it tries to connect someone normaly fails and the game is abandoned.
I have only yet to connect to one game after numerous tries and 2 people had pings over 400 and the game chugged so we all quit out.
Is this game dead? I have just bought it and it does seem to give me that impression from the very few people playing it online.
At certain times of the day the game is awfully empty, probably because of the dreadful start the game had which caused most people to not buy the game/get a refund. Try playing during the evening in EU or US time the games pretty populated then. However now the proxies aren't working so we're back where we were a month ago with tons of people being unable to connect, so there will probably be even less games.
Dont listen to Illegal the game is doing great. Pantheon is just still having problems, but Custom is working great. If you go to Custom games you will find plent of games up and running at most times of the day. Pantheon is limited to 2V2 right now and still has a lot of issues.
Also a patch is coming next week that will fix the game with those with low end connections. Keep with the game as the community has increased greatly this last week and they still have the overseas launch soon.
There are 6 custom game lobbies, one other person looking for a Skirmish match and 5 people looking for a Pantheon match.
There are currently 25 custom games in progress including lobbies according to the impulse client. (Although considering how buggy the entire client is I'm not entirely sure if it's even showing a current list.)
While I realise there are people in the middle of games too this isn't really "great".
I really enjoy this game and would like for it to be populated and working great, but telling a new player that the game is doing great feels like a flat-out lie.
I would say 6 custom games at this time of day is doing great. You should be able to find a game then.
It's 5:30 to 8:30 in the morning in the US where the majority of players are located right now. So no, there aren't going to be a ton of games at this time of day. In a few weeks when the internation product has been picked up by more people hopefully there will be more games at less peak times. Until then, I still dont see a handful of cutom games at the worst time of the day to be that bad. And during evening hours in the US the number of custom games is at like 30 or more.
When did that happen? Was it announced somewhere?
Fanboy propaganda aside, lets face it - the online game is broke for many people. The international people are going to have the same litany of problems everyone else is experiencing. I hope word of mouth doesn't kill this game before the "PATCH". Problem is most of the other patches were supposed to fix the online game and here we are. There will be a small and dwindling online community if online is not fixed very soon.

everything you wanted to know but didn't know where to go.
it's now 9:48 EST (14:51 GMT) on a friday and there's:
16 games up
50 games running
311 DG's online
i leave the interpretations of these life sign's to others.

Not sure what people's agenda is to say that no one is playing.. Last night my biggest problem was clicking into a game before it filled up, so it seems to me there are plenty of people playing. Maybe they think all those players are just the fanboys.
The online isn't broken, people just need to learn to config their routers and tell their shitty ISP's to stop blocking your ports.
Please make sure your NAT is set to open NAT or endpoint independant NAT, turn off firewalls, and open ports 6073 and 6100-6200 (UDP). Also contact your ISP to see if they block ports or your modem blocks certain ports.

I have never had a problem with any other game online, infact i'm actually DMZ atm and i still fail to connect to people some times, i hope this patch sovles everything....
I have a feeling it won't tho.
Take note that "number of players online" on opengames.asp only includes people who are actually in game
As others have pointed out, the multiplayer population of Demigod consistently gone up since release.
In addition, while connectivity is not perfect, it does work for the vast majority of people now and more updates are in development.
One of the big differences between Demigod and "other games" that are p2p (i.e. other RTSs) is that in other games, people aren't allowed in the lobby until they've connected to everyone in the lobby and you can't see people who are trying to join.
I challenge any serious RTS player here to deny they've not routinely playing an RTS online where they've sat in a lobby with a couple of people wondering why more people aren't joining where they leave the game, find another game that quickily fills up.
The difference: In Demigod, people are allowed to join in the lobby if they connect to the host and then the host can decide who to boot. Obviously we could make it work like other games where people simply can't get into the lobby and eliminate the connection progress dialog so you can't see people joining.
It seems to have added more problems than it was worth, i am also yet to play a game that is laggy :/
