Something I've realized (we all know oak is already strong) is that when oak uses his shield. That target no longer gets HIT. It may say absorb or something but when using the heart of life it doesnt' interrupt it. I just had a game where i played against an oak who did this and with 6 seconds of shield some killer armor and me as torchbearer (low health) he was pretty much invincible. Either he could continue fighting even at 500 hp becuase shield then heart of life or he could run away in some of the most annoying circumstances. Through the entire game he died once. Killed over 5 people. (I got disconnected)
In my opinion here are the problems:
1) I doubt this was meant to happen.2) How do you kill someone who does this.3) Regardless of what you do it's impossible to prevent since shield is a nigh instant spell.4) Way too easy to get at 4k to set up.
Problems I had while fighting him:
1) As torchbearer all my damage was burst or close to it with AoE. Yet he leveled faster because he never had to run.2) As torchbearer my damage was all burst and when i came at him i easily took out 3/4 of his health with my spells yet he always regened back. And with cooldowns I had 10 seconds before I could damage him again but as oak he just kept pouring the steam on3) It happens WAY TOO EARLY all he needed was 4k and starting with 1k it isn't that hard. Almost instant invincibility. And didn't help one of my allies fed him a kill. He got on a few assists too and it wasn't too hard to get that money.4) 2 People couldn't even take him down he had wand of speed and boots of speed and ran behind towers.5) Later in the game when the money started getting high all he needed was armor and he had a ton of it. SO that 2000 hp he gets over 6 seconds turns into 6000 effective. It just became way too hard to stop him.5) Our towers couldn't stop him at all he just ran by then and killed us because at 800 health he still could survive the towers.
Now I know i'll get criticism saying "He sacrifices damage" or "He's more vulnerable early game" But the truth of the matter is all it took was 3 skill points so even if you followed the regular build it wouldn't be that hard to do this. And selling items you'd only need 5k worth of them so you wouldn't suffer anyway. Other criticism saying "have you tested this?" Well i haven't but it's a viable strategy that caused me to lose a game quite spectacularly. And one more thing "big deal he can only use it ever 45 seconds" yes but when you have a 35 second death counter he's only got 10 seconds outside of that. And even if you manage to kill him afterward he still comes back with his last stand and if you aren't already dead you will be then. Plus with 15% cooldown flag and 10% cooldown favor item that 45 goes down to around 33 and thats a lot stronger than before.
Just stun through his shield. Foul grasp is like what 3-4 seconds? boulder roll is a couple. that totally fucks shield+hol over, shield dosent mean the end of the world you just gotta change up. if anything after that he might just harass then be pressed to leave the lane. its not that op if you ask me
Stuns definitely don't stop HoL through the Orb of Defiance's effect, I doubt it works with Oak's shield.
Well nw that HoL has been MASSACRED. But it still doesn't get stunned at all. Foul grasp is 2 seconds. And a stun doens't stop HoL it just wastes shield time which if you saved your foul grasp til he used shield your doing something wrong.
SHUTTTTT UPPPPP AND QUIT WHININGGGGGG ITS 12000 FREAKEN GOLD
This patch made it more viable endgame is all. Now if oak got this it's even MORE powerful than before to be used with oak. Because now with 6 seconds he'd get more around 3k health which is more significant endgame.
And all you have to do is afford a 12k gold artifact. Yeah, this makes is more viable...
Lieu i've played games where you hit the 1 hour mark and you have NOTHING TO SPEND GOLD ON. And besides why get an extra 2k armor and 1k health when you can get an IMPROVED HoL
Are you really worried about HoL+shield being used once a minute when everyone has muliple artifacts in an extremely long game? 12k gold can get you a mageslayer and narmoth's ring - much better than a HoL. You might be looking to buy this after that unlikely scenario where both teams are even and getting tons of gold and you've got other artifacts already. And then, anyone could have just bought 12 revitalising elixirs from the artifact shop - 2.25k hp and mana 1 second cast. And lategame it's probably 1/10 of the combat healing that is going on.
It's just... complete non-issue.

xavior if you cant kill an oak buy that point in the game where ppl can afford artifacts u deserve to lose. they are like sitting ducks now so quit your whining. if your using ice torch all you need to do is freeze them when they are in shield and RoI and then shatter them. i use ice torch all the time and i find killing oaks really easy. so basically what im saying is have you comtemplated the fact that you just dont know how to play the game and so u need to whine about stuff to make you feel like its the game's fault and not yours
If you can kill Oak with TB by the time multiple artifacts are available - that Oak sucks big time. Especially with Ice TB. Penitence can interrupt Frost Nova, Shield purges all debuffs and Surge of Faith heals them for hundreds of HP.
I guess you just haven't played against a decent Oak that interrupts many of your casts and uses shield to block others. TB will never be able to stand against Oak in a high level game...

You're now insulting me. Completely unneeded. I am just saying that its more viable endgame now. I'm not complaining at all. But I've seen several other people on the forums say the same thing. All I'm asking is that it DOESN'T WORK WITH SHIELD ANYMORE. Make it stop on hit please stardock. Is that such a hard fix. But Stardock is doing a good job.
And to tell you the truth I STATISICALLY win more games than i lose. And if you are killing oaks with an ice torch there is something wrong with the oak because he should be able to survive a couple seconds of stun.
Also if you have artifacts it actually comes down to WHAT demigod you are playing. Since torchbearers damage is all spell based NO ARTIFACTS INCREASE THAT. While oak can get ashkandor and the like. Sure TB can get ashkandor but it isn't as effective in his hands as in someone who auto attacks regularly.
As i said thats completely true. Noob oaks can pass for an average player because oak is so easy to play DECENTLY. Now it takes a lot to play him decently WILL MASSACRE any torchbearer end game one on one. And who can stand against oak late game? Besides UB who i don't even think can do it.

the fact that you want to take on an oak by yourself just doesnt make sense. you play as a TORCH BEARER you are meant to support your team members and stun and shatter enemies so they will be easier to kill as a group. Your job is to freeze/slow them and let your teammate assist you to kill the demigod. I play as the ice torch and i never get killed by oaks or any other demigod. at the end of the game just wait until they use penetance and forst nova them and move away or if there is a ally get them to help. basically what im trying to get to your head is that a torch bearer is not meant to go one on one against other demigods. you are one of the best support demigods in the game. so quit whining because u die since you don't use him properly against oaks.

Oak gets owned by sedna and ooze build UBs, as do most demigods .
