I have this problem with my ping since when i bought the game. I've tried everything i know to solve or pinpoint the cause.Problem:
I must say that i can play any 1v1 or 2v2 matches, no problem here: it doesn't matter where the players are located, it doesn't spikes at all. I've tried on Gameranger so i can see the players location, and i've played fine with people from Asia, Australia, US, Europe, it makes no difference, no spikes from me.
My PC specs and internet connection:
What i have tried:
Next, i will show you 3 recorded games, first one is a 3v3 match, the second is 4v4 match and last is a 5v5 match.
I used CamStudio to record and BitMeter to show the network usage in real time (with average upload and downlod). Please note that BitMeter shows the speed of the connection in kB (kiloBYTES). All videos are HD, so you can clearly see the numbers.
3v3 game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSPpRUm1e8I
You can see that the spikes appear for a short duration, and only from time to time. The average upload and download speed is around 13-14 kilobytes/sec (that's 104-112 kilobits). Note that as soon as the ping spike comes, the maximum upload and downlod speed grows a little bit, from 15-17 kB/sec(~128kilobits/s) peak, to 23-24 kB/sec (~184 kilobits/s) peak. Still in my connection limits (4096 kilobits/s download / 1024 kilobits/s upload).
4v4 game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hyoYIVN7P8
Here you can see the pings i have in the lobby with all players (all green and maximum ping is 133). Then, as soon as the game starts, the spikes go as high as 1400, with only a few seconds of normality, then again to 1400 and so on. Much smaller intervals than in 3v3 matches. Note that the maximum download and upload speeds have rised to 34 kB/sec (272 kilobits/s) for upload peak, and 41 kB/sec (328 kilobits/s) for download peak, still in my connection limits (4096 kilobits/s download / 1024 kilobits/s upload).
5v5 game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQPQkoNMGqA
This is the most extreme, i get constant ping spikes of 700-1500, freezing the game for everybody. You can still see the pings in the lobby are normal. In the game, the maximum download and upload speeds are a bit higher than in the 4v4 game, but not by much: ~46 kB/sec (~368 kilobits/s) for upload and download peaks. Still in my connection limits (4096 kilobits/s download / 1024 kilobits/s upload).
As i've said, i'm connected directly to my cable modem, no wireless, no router.
I've tested my connection on speedtest.net, on a couple of servers from around the world, so i can show it to you. Note that i'm located in Europe!
First picture is from servers located in Europe:
The second picture is from US servers (note the distances from me, as i've said, i'm from Europe):
The last picture is from servers from the rest of the world (Asia, Australia, etc), located at great distances:
As you can see, i don't think my connection is too slow. At least in Europe i have great pings and upload speed. I've tried 4v4 matches on Gameranger and i've made sure all the players were from Europe, but i still get ping spikes. It doesn't matter with who i play and from where.
So if it's not my PC, and it's not my connection setup from home, than it must be either the ISP or the software (Demigod). The only way i know an ISP could cause this problem, is by throttling the p2p bandwidth. I've tried some torrents and they worked fine. More, i've done this P2P test, to see if my P2P connection is throttled. It's not! See the result below:
So this is it, i don't know what else to do. If someone can help me pinpoint the cause, i would be grateful. I would appreciate if someone from Stardock (or GPG) would look over this.
you guys think patch 1.1 will help us?
I've got my fingers crossed, my toes crossed, my arms crossed, my legs crossed, and my eyes crossed. I really hope it does. Playing a Multiplayer game would be great!~
But alas, I see a foreboding shadow and my hope dwindles ...no mention of any kind of connectivity fixes included in 1.1. Frogboy mentioned in his pre-1.1 post that "...the connectivity issues have been largely resolved [already]..." even though, in my eyes, the only problem right now is my connectivity issue.
But there is nothing else I know to do at this point so here's to 1.1 fixing this for us!
I don't think it will do anything to help us. But i'm a pessimist by nature, so...A pessimist can never be dissapointed.
Anyway, i've played some 3v3 games and the spikes are rare, but they are there. It doesn't matter with who i'm playing, i've tried with a couple of local people, with great ping to them, no change. The only thing is that when someone in a 3v3 match quits, the spikes disappear. So it seems 5 players are ok, 6 players is pushing the limit and above this, the spikes just appear more and more frequent. It looks like the bandwidth is not enough, but as i've proven, this is not my case. So i don't know what's causing it. No clue.
Btw, i've read on GPG's forums, and there are some threads about this exact problem, but with SupCom...Same discussion as here, no solution. And of course, no word from any GPG staff.
They are looking into the issue, along with other in-game connectivity problems.
Oh, ok, great news then. I'm looking forward to any connectivity updates from them, maybe we have a chance to play some 4v4 or 5v5 games.
Well i am pretty much in the mindset that i have to stop playing DemiGod, i really do feel that it has been money wasted for me. Me and my friend both get this mental lag spiking when playing anything above 2v2, yet 2v2 runs fine. We are both on 10Meg connections with virgin cable, but plenty of other people on virgin cable have no problem playing at all.
I actually just tried to play since the patch and ran into Dead Ghost in my game, that game ended early because people could not put up with my spiking and i do not blame them.
I can play quake and other fps games with 20-30ms average, mmo like aion and wow run fine at 60 odd ms....but demigod gives me god awful spikes on any game with more than 4 players in it which just really ruins the game, as the majority of people including myself and my friends like to play 3v3.
Just putting my voice out there, another disappointed and disheartened gamer that has grown tired of the connection issues inherant in this game.
I know, it sucks not being able to play more than 2v2. Somehow tonight i was able to play 3v3 without any spikes at all, but this has happened before only once or twice, so it's very rare. The next day i will have spikes again. 4v4 and above still no go, even on this "lucky" day. I've tested one single 4v4 game, i feel sorry for the players because i've ruined their game, but i must test this after each patch, maybe, just maybe it will work.
1.1
4v4 still broken although it appears slightly less severe.
Any news on 3v3? I get spikes that start right at the beginning of the game, and do not stop, like your video in 4v4+
im glad gpg is still trying to fix this!
my 3v3 has worked since 1.04~ with only occaional spikes.
I'm starting to see bits of it in random 2v2 matches. Very frustrating.
Tell me about it, tried to play a nice 'safe' 2v2 this morning with my mate and i was spiking like hell, i spend whole games getting constant abuse from other team about 'fix the lag' (most things arent as polite as that). I understand their frustration at the spikes but you know what i dont have that fabled green 'lag fix' button to hand.
I like to keep mine in my sock drawer, right next to the purple I_WIN button. Sadly, they're both malfunctioning.
Gonna bump this since I am having the exact same problem. Tried playing a couple of games online last night for the first time since buying this game, and both matches I was the cause of terrible lag.
Fairly sure bumping wont help any of us, it was either in this thread or another that i saw frogboy say something along the lines of 'well if works for us in our offices so its your problem' ;/
a friend that used my 20$ coupon played his first 4v4 last night, he has the same issue. Kind of confused how modern broadband speeds aren't enough. It seems like the netcode is atrocious.
@Kreusa: a stardock worker told some posts above that they are still looking into the issue...
so i hope its NOT our problem ;/ ... and if its true what you are saying then the only problem is that we bought this game and trusted the developers/publishers...
looks like everyone gave up just like me...
Pretty much. At least I'll always have TF2.
Ditto. Steam is showing some great discounts. Fallout 3 will probably be stealing my time now. And StarCraft 2 might not be too far away - that should make a decent replacement.
I'm really hoping this gets fixed soon, I've taken to playing my old computer games. Just beat Age of Empires and moving on to Fable TLC.
Sign me up. I played the whole evening and did not have one game without spikes.
Throw me on the wagon.
I havent touched this game for probably 2 months because of all the problems it was having, nice to see some of them are fixed but this is a game ruiner.
I have a great PC and a sprint mobile broadband card (about the size of a flash drive and plugs right into a USB port. No wires no nothin.). I can play every other game of my many games just fine online, even 25v25's in cod4 and whatnot. But as soon as i try anything above a 2v2 BOOM lagtastic.
Seeing as when this thread was started i cant believe this is still a problem and that NO ONE has said anything to us about it. That just makes me despise a company. Horrible business practice IMO and i probably wont be buying anymore games from theese companies unless this adressed soon.
Hi
Nice post! It seems your the type of guy who tryes to find the solution to the problem befour your hand it out in the opening and thats somthing you shall and get credit for! (Thumbs up)
I'Am not the best support expert in the world but I've helped many people and myself with issues regarding the same problems as you have and I always find a way in the end.
Instead of giving up or waiting for the support team to actually find the problem, we can try to solve it ourselves and save it sometime. "The problem is the solution" Find out what the problem is and you have the answer"
What I do know from what you are telling us is that you have a bascily good computer with the hardware checked out!
leaves us with software, virus, bugs, and internett (ports, networking, firewall)
You can't play a laggfree game mate with over 300 in ms! (I think the standar ping for Demigod is 300) Basic
Wich says that all the packages you send out and receiv through out the game is equally distributed amongst all player at a standar rate "Wich will be 300" I think.
If someone in the a player goes over the game limit the game will force delay" not lagg but delay.
Delay is the speed of the game, if
a,b,c and d playes a game!
Standar settings:300 ms
a has 90ms
b has 145ms
c has 235ms
d has 299ms
the game is laggfree and if they all keep it that way with no huge drops in packages the games goes smooth.
¤Let's say d suddenly got 330 ms¤
All players will be forced to run the game slower and to the slowest ping rating, it might not go slow for him but the rest will. But the game has to do this for everything to happend at the same time! "like sniper shot hitting the target more or less at the same time as for the person who actually press the skill"
Now we have somthing called LAGG (FFS #"%"#%") etc
That's what I like to call package drops! When your pings suddenly rises or suddenlydrops! Might even loose connection for abit or you just send to litle to the table (outgoing or receiving)
"Imagen your playing a game with 4 people again and one player suddenly turns on bit torrent and he was just finished downloading the new britney spears porno movie" (should get enough seeds) Your outgoing packages would drop and most likely become unstabile since the computer doesen't know what to prioritise so the game will dropp packages since u can't follow up with the information your should have
You might even get the diconnect menu up, telling u that all people are disconnecting from you wich is bollox.
Back to the problem. You say that the ping is fine when you are in the room but not in the game, then it rises from 200 to 1500? There is your problem, just inbetween there!
Make sure your the only one connected to your network and internett line befour you try figure this out, since it's crusial that you need your ping straight.
So I i see your playing from a direct modem cable with no router wich means it goes straight into the wall?
Offen routers and modems are combined,
So I guess the question might be, whats happening when you go from the lobby in game to the game! whats making your ping shoot up like a rocket?
Possible answer: Firewall,Networking,software fault,
Sorry for my English,
Hope this might narrowdown your problem
