What I really think is causing people to whine about certain demigods being OP is simple: Lack of necessary multiplayer teamwork tools. No, I am not pulling things from my ass, I think what is holding this game back is a lack of a few necessary multiplayer functions such as VoIP, a better pinger, and a community-wide mentality that this is a 1vs1 game because of the way the game is presented. Teamwork wins here folks, no matter what Demigod you are and your enemies are using, the team who coordinates is going to win.
However, this game lacks VoIP. SO what happens? Most people just can't type fast enough or coordinate well enough using chat, so they end up going off on their own and then getting killed. Then they come back to the forums with "OMG OP DG".
A stronger multiplayer suite of teamwork tools, would, for the most part eliminate alot of the bullshit around here, because it would rest on who is the better team, not who is the better 1vs1er. Even a newer player would benefit more from this, because they could easily understand his teammates and not be thrown off by the quick, seemingly mean tone, that using the chat function can sometimes do.
Certain demigods ARE better at 1vs1 fighting. That doesn't mean that particular demigod is more powerful, it just means it is better at a 1vs1 situation. However, if teamwork is factored in and coordinated with characters like Sedna and QoT, who are extreme support characters.... it changes the dynamaic altogether. There are so many amazing combinations of Demigods, that used together as a team, create much more brilliant results than what any powerful 1vs1 character is capable of.
This is a TEAM game... lacking teamwork features. I recommend people start using Ventrilo (for now). The quality of your gameplay experience will increase dramatically when working as a team. I hope GPG and Stardock implement stronger multiplayer features later on.
Teamwork would strengthen "support" characters. The reason why some Demigods seem more powerful is because they can be played more effectively solo, than other characters can.
Yes please. There is really no excuse for a modern team-based game to not have a built-in VoIP solution nowadays. They aren't even that hard to implement; I incorporated VoIP into the Torque game engine as a class project by myself.
Voice chat for Impulse is in the works already. But yes you have a very good point, some DGs need a bit more teamwork to be able to play to their fullest, but that rarely happens, so the DGs that are strong 1vs1 seem to be stronger.
I already have a "WTF. VOIP please!" thread. Man, you copy me a lot, there, proto
Well I didn't see it. If you haven't noticed, I only reply to you or your threads if I think you've said something stupid, which you do often.
Have you been able to "Adapt and Conquer" with Erebus yet?
Sedna is the most powerful 1v1 character, not extreme support. ^^
I agree. Something that would be great would be a Left 4 Dead style radial command tree. For those not familiar: You press a button like z x or c, or whatever and a circle of commands apprears in the middle of the screen, you move your mouse in the appropriate direction, and release the key, and it says command. This would be fantastic, "go left", "right" need help here", etc, etc. Typing does take far too long in this fast paced game.
That would work well in this game too, or even player specific commands and a "ping" showing where you think your teammate should go. It should also be color coded so you can see which teammate on your team sent the command.
From my experience, both playing as and versing as Sedna, she is definitely not a "Demigod Killer". When I am talking about 1vs1, I am talking about who is better at killing. Sedna, is not a killer. Sure, Pounce is strong and she has great survivability, but never do I feel like I am in trouble versing a Sedna. I also never feel particularily powerful either.
Being able to survive is one thing, but Sedna's capacity for damage is nil compared to some of the other Demigods.
And yes, if played right, she is a better support character than she is a 1vs1 character. Her abilities and skillsets compliment support play far more than it does 1vs1. Problem is, people have this mindset that this is a 1vs1 game and not a teamwork game.
allied DG unit portraits please. its almost impossible to figure out what everyone's status is and almost impossible to get the right targetted buff on the right guy in the thick of a really crowded engagement. can't tell you how many times i've put a Bramble Shield on myself (when I didn't need it) rather than my ally who was standing right next to me (and did need it) because my mouse was off by 3 pixels.
Definitely a must!
my baby so smawwttt...
