Hi,
First of all i see a lot of improvement since the last patches regarding connectivity in lobbies. i can join in a couple of seconds and connect to everyone whos there. so good job on this one !!
but however it seems that since the last patch there is another bug that didnt happen to me before. every game i played today it startet to lag after a minute for like 10 seconds and started again after a minute constantly. the game is unplayable and the other players tell me that i have a huge ping of 1000 and should leave. when i open the score board i see that all players are having 1000+ pings which probably is because of me. i dont think i have encountered this problem before the last patch.
i have read through the forums and found a couple of threads discussing this lag spiking problem, but there was no solution to this. there was also discussed that the proxy servers could be a solution to this, but since these threads were kinda outdated i dont really know if they really had the same problem like me. i tried a wlan optimizer tool (i am on wlan) which was posted in one of those threads, but it didnt help at all.
i just want to make sure stardock is aware of that problem. (maybe they are already trying to fix this) and i really hope there is a way to fix this for us "laggers". the worst would be when this problem would be never adressed and in the end i can never ever play that game online again except over gamerager. also i think that it has to be a problem with the latest patch because i didnt encounter this problem before and i played a lot before.
my pc and setup is definately not the problem (i hope) since i run the game at a simspeed of 7-9. i also opened all ports, no firewall, no anti virus, 2k DSL (21kb/s upload) and wlan. i dont know if my ISP is the problem but i dont have problems with torrents for example. also games over gameranger ware working fine.
please help me(us)
Yours TheBird
I started having this same problem last night! I hosted a 4v4/5v5 room and ended up going 4v4. When the game launched I checked connectivity and made a comment that it would be a good game as pings looked good and simspeed was all 9-10's.
Then the whole game started lagging to the point of futility. When I looked at pings it looked like everyone was jumping from 80-100 up to 300-400. My friend was on Skype and told me that I was the only one looking high to him (300+). I took a quick poll and the consensus was that I was the issue. I dropped the game and my friend said things evened out (amid comments re: my dial-up connection...).
I have played 4v4's and 5v5 before without issue. I'm wondering if the recent changes have increased requirements.
i hope requirements have not increased...
i live in a small village and here you cannot get more than DSL 2000 (2048/192 kbit/sec)...
if that isnt any longer enough to run the game 5on5 im pretty much f***ed!
i would really appreciate any official comment on this.
Since the last patch i have been having the exact same problem with every game i join.I also have a 2k DSL connection speed so i don't know if that's what is causing it.
I had the same problem yesterday... i don't know why but short after this high lag spike my whole internet connection was messed up... all my programms which were connected to the internet lost their connection...
Interesting. That happened to me as well daKillJoy...
After my failed 4v4 I joined another 4v4 to see.. same result. Next I joined a 3v3 which played well. Not the smoothest game i have played but decent. After that match I tried to join another 3v3 and my game froze once I clicked the Join Game button. I ended up CTRL-ALT-DEL and forcing DG closed.. after that my internet connection was down. Actually, the connection went down with the Join Game button as I was talking to a friend on Skype and got cut off mid-sentence. I reset my system/modem/router and the internet came back.. but I continued to freeze at the Join Game button.
I went to bed after that. Hoping the game works when I get home.
It sounds to me likethe actual requirements once in-game could not have changed as Frogboy's latest post states that SD deals with all of the connections up until the game launches and then passes off to DG (GPG).
However (and I am just speculating - this is not my field) could thhere be some residual activity happening with the original connections? It just looked to me like my connection was throttling. I would see all 7 other players with great 80-100 pings and then all suddenly jump up towards 300... then back down, repeat.
What would cause this to suddenly start happening?
Same here. I played again someone last night who kept having 1,000+ ping and then back down to 90ms every minute. We all told him he is the problem but he said it's the game issue.
I think it is both Blitz. It seems to be a new game issue.. but unfortunately it has become his (and my) issue now as well.
I think he was right
I have a question for those affected by this: Are you running and VOIP software as well?
I was just looking a little further into Skype and I need to do a little testing with NetMeter it appears.I would like to have some data as well from before this latest patch but once I get home and get some numbers together I'll put them up.
no Mauxe, i have absolutely nothing running in the background that could use my bandwidth neither any VOIP software nor any kind of Instant Messenger.
in my opinion its still the new patch that caused these problems.
i will try my luck again and join a match now ill report here if it still occurs... stay tuned!
Good luck!
I agree with the patch assessment, I just want to start getting some numbers together to compare as things progress.
i tried 2 matches both 2vs2.
first match (custom) was with 3 human players and the game froze after 1-2 minutes... we could all still chat but the game was like paused. i think i was the problem again but i am not sure.
second match (pantheon) connection info said 4 players. ingame we were 2 human players with 2 bots. game went relatively smooth but i noticed that the other players ping jumped from 200 to 400 for some seconds and went back to 200... so it basically was like my other games with 6 human players where the ping increased to 1000. just that this time there were only 2 players and i think thats the reason why the ping didnt went that high. looks like the ping would reach 2000 when i would try a 5on5.
dont know what to do now. no official statement yet
It's a game issue. I've had this problem before the patch and it's not my connection to blame (or pc). I've checked and rechecked and the problem is not on my side.
I'm loosing all hope for this game to work...It's not about the money i've lost buying this, but i'm sad because it's a very good game i can't play.
Yeah, I have been getting the same lag like you guys here. At first, I thought I was my router box at home but I checked everything and there was not a single problem. It definately is one of the bug from the new updates. Well, on the good side, I can still play some games but I get kicked more often than I can play.
played a 3v3 just now and my ul speed was fairly low the entire time.
Going to try again before I post the numbers.
interesting is: before the update i wasn't having such hard "lag spikes" i was able to play a 3v3. With the new patch it got worse- It looks like it needs more upload speed than before. Any offical comments on this? I have also only a 2k DSL line...
I have the same problem, but no solutin til now.
For me it is unplayable since the latest patch...
still no official comment on our problems :/ looks like we have to wait and be patient
Same issue, been around forever, no response from Stardock at all. There's topic after topic on these boards about it. People seem to think it's on the user side for some reason.
I play Demigod on a gaming PC with bare minimum background processes, almost all services disabled, no AV, no firewall, no router, nothing running. I have a 10mb/s cable connection with an average of 1.5-2mb/s upload speed. The problem is not me. It's either somewhere on the ISP's end or Demigod.
Considering every other P2P game and application runs flawlessly and people have the same problem across different ISPs and even countries, I'm leaning towards the latter.
Please fix the lag spiking problem. It exists in your game and it's not "packet sniffing programs".
please read this thread stardock
We are aware of this. Similar issues in the past may have been due to the RakNet throttling that Brad mentioned in the journals, so now that is eliminated, we're looking into other potential causes.
Any way we can help?
thank you for your feedback Kryo! at least now i know that you are aware of that problem and it will get fixed sooner or later hopefully sooner since i cannot play online at the moment :/
I got better connections and more stable games about 1 week ago... things have gotten alot worse.
