Stop kicking me. Seriously. 250 ping is NOT too high. The fact I live in Australia is not going to lag the game.
See, this game uses magical thing called netlag. It means that anyone below 350 is, is going to well have 350 latency. This means 0-350 ping is going to give identical performance. The guy with 50 ping is going to be just as laggy as my 300 ping (and laggier if his comp or connection sucks).
So, guys, stop kicking me. It just makes it impossible for me to get a game, because Aussie players are rare, and if I want to play I have no choice but join US games.
- Sincerely, your sad and annoyed Australian who wants to play Demigod.
If the shoe fits...
then buy it?
Game i've played with Liq3 were fine and I live in eastern Canada. I mean i'm typing from an igloo right now.
I've actually had worse games with people from the states who either had poor sim speed, (slow computer) or was had one guy who kept jumping up to 600-1000 ping. (too many background pronz downloads.)
Umm... if playing with people halfway around the world isn't what causes MP games to lag, wtf do you think does? And don't give me some bs about "netlag"...
Playing with people in the same geographical location is one of the best ways to ensure a smooth, quality gaming experience. Period.
Aussies, play with aussies if you don't want lag the rest of us down. High ping does make a difference. If you have any background in networking at all you know that the speed of light simply isn't all that fast when we're talking global RTT's.
That said, some of us Americans are kind hearted enough to let you play with us even though you generally lag our games down. We're just swell guys you know. Feel free to thank us when we let you into our games.
That's what the outback is for. Man up.
I hate when I enter a game, my green 280 ping shows up, then BAM I'm out. ;_;
It's awful waiting an hour for a NZ/Aus game. I want to play! :3
I've been through the same situation in reverse in other games before with brits. It is not limited to Americans. I joined a TF2 UK server and I got hit by waves of "OMG WHYD YOU VOTED FOR BUSH" and "HEY AMERICAN DO YOU WANT APPLE PIE?" and "OMFG, STUPID COWBOY, KICK HIM". They had mics too, I don't even know how they knew I was american, probably because of my accent, I guess. Then again, they could've been pissed off because I kept sniping them with headshots. Either way, point is, it is not limited to just Americans.
250 ping is not bad, its when it hits 300 or 350
They need to post peoples average Sim Speed in the lobby, I find this to be much more game breaking than a high ping
*kicks the cowboy*
It would be the attitude...
As one country song puts it, "save a horse, ride a cowboy".
Seriously. You get into the game and the Simspeeds are:
10 10 9 7 8 2
Chug chug chug chug
Enraging.
I realize that I am able to play with him without lag. When I find a person (liq3) that makes posts like these day in and out across TWO games that I play it becomes a bit ridiculous, this is the reason why he will now get the boot in any of my games (I play with people that have 300ms from other countries all the time late at night and it is fine).
This could have easily been worded in a different manner and if you take his side... perhaps you are sounding just as ignorant as liq3? And you know what, if you have 100-120ms to americans (which I find to be pretty ridiculous because that's better ping from west to east coast players but I'll take your word for it) how the hell can they even tell you're a brit? The only way would be for you to tell them.
If you don't like it you can do what I do... Host your own game!!!! WOW WHO WOULDA THUNK!? Wait... can't host? That sucks. Maybe if you made friends not enemies you could have a friend host?! They shouldn't kick you! WOWWHOWOULDATHUNK!?
Way to use them brains.
If I'm the "ignorant" one, I won't get into what that makes you.
lol
I see the problem here. Go into your personal settings. You seem to be from Australia, you will need to change this to N.America. Apply for a visa and once you move to N.America try to rejoin a game and everything should be fixxed.
its hard enough to get a game together and run it smoothly, cant blame people if they kick someone with ping above 250 for the good of everyone else. I agree low ping isnt as important in this game though. Personally I dont reccomend launching games if someones ping is around 300 or above.
I suggest trying more skirmish or pantheon mode
Back in the days of 56k vs dsl (and dsl was potently expensive in the 90s) I played mechwarrior 3 online. In these oldschool multiplayer games you actually had to lead your opponents up to 3 inches on the screen (the amount was directly related to ping) to actually hit them due to lag, and this actually became the ultimate skill in the game, called "lag shooting". Since I slept very little back then and gamed monstrous amounts of hours, I played international opponents and had many friends from australia and germany on my FL.
The problem with games like demigod is there is no lag shooting. The game does not keep moving and let your data catch up to it when it feels like it, and I can speak from experience when I say that some international connections are better than others. I can also vouch that a 120 ping in the lobby != 120 steady ping in game. I myself do give the benefit of the doubt to those with slightly high pings, and in some cases wound up regretting it when the game that ensued was a slideshow. By no means does that mean that I won't give people a chance, but players I know are going to ruin my game usually don't get a second chance. Even though I play a lot, I would still comsider myself still on the casual side of the fence, and this probably has a lot to do with it.
Point is, hey guys it's nice to have aussie players on at 4 am when I want one more before I pass out, but sometimes your internets don't help your cause. My advice to you is to stick it out until you have yourself a group of friend that you play with on a regular basis.
The guy who said that has _UK in his name... I noticed it, did you?
every 250+ ping player i've let into my games has caused major problems. most recently, i let two 250+ ping people stay in my 5v5. no one's SIM speed was bad, but the pings were a bit high so the game lagged and was almost unplayable. eventually one of them dropped, and a desync occurred. sorry, based on experience, i'm just going to kick people with over 200ms, because enough uncontrollable stuff coalesces to ruin this game. a host might as well control the lag.
Is it possible that there not americans? maybe there some ignorant aussies? or even ignorant brits? maybe ignorant germans?
The biggest sources of lag are unstable connections (ping going up and down) and slow computer.
Just try to educate people. Ping is almost never the culprit.
here is an ignorant aussie: www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RjC-vh06_c
rofl.
Like Americans aren't going to kick other Americans with slow computers too. So just rule that one right out.
Now for unstable connections. Explain what you feel makes connections unstable. Now stick an additional 5-15 routers in between two hosts and several thousand miles ("kilometers") of wire for signal to go through and explain how that connection is not more prone to being unstable (hint: more routers=more opportunities for queueing delays and subsequent packet loss between routers, and longer links=longer round trip times=less communication that can be done per second=lag).
Americans are not ignorant for kicking high-ping aussies from their servers. Aussies are ignorant for joining them. /thread
They may not have have had a reason to kick you before, but they sure do now
It's not the ping. I just don't like aussies
I like how you started off here with ignorant Americans. It's ok though I am sure you're only being kicked because Austrailians are bigots and racists.
