Here is the problem: Powerful favor items give an advantage that is staggeringly overpowerd in the early game. Someone at level one with the serpents blade, or a similar extremely powerful item will without a doubt, rape his opponents, as there is no possible way they can buy anything at that low of level to combat it. (To all the people who say "Well, just unlock the favor items yourself"--you are retards, and have no concept of what makes a game fun--here is a hint, it isn't getting raped because you haven't played enough games)
The issue here is that this game isn't like COD4, where if someone has a higher tier weapon than you, you can still have a decent chance with better reflexes, etc. Sure, you have a tiny chance but barely one at all.
Don't get me wrong. I love favor items and love working toward a permanent reward for playing.
So how can we fix this? Simple. Institute a system where more expensive favor items cannot be used until a certain war rank/level. Probably war rank, as this would guarantee the game had progressed to the point where the opponent would have the chance to buy items that would give them a chance.
For example: Favor items between 0-200 points could be used from level 1/war rank 1. Favor items between 201-350 from level 6 and higher, and favor items more expensive than that from level 7 on. (This is just a rough estimate, needs more tweaking)
The point is that expensive favor items are ridiculously overpowered at low levels, and make the game both unfair and unfun for those who don't have them. This is not how it should be.
One last note for any detractors: I don't care if you want to "pwn bitches" with your serpents blade at level one, when it's someone who is playing for the first time. Go play WOW or some other shitty game where everyone else in the community is a dumb as you.
lol...
This is a choice that has already been made. I mean, the entire reason that the Favor items are a feature at all, is to promote the concept that all demigod players are, at least loosely, connected. I think it is a pretty decent system. Sure it sucks to not have the 'good' favor items... but they are pretty easy to pick up, especially the one or two you want.
If you are truly a new player... guess what, you lose ANYway. I agree that it unlevels the playing field, but it does so in a way that actually suggests to a player a course of action: Practice more. This is very similar to any kind of content based unlockable (See TF2) and is a measured risk.
I will however, entertain the argument that SOME favor items are too strong, or poorly priced. Anklet of Swiftness comes to mind, as does Mard's Hammer. A Favor item should be an enabler for a slightly different play style, but due to the strong variance in worthfulness of the items, you don't actually get enough reason to try different ones.
The advantages provided by favour items, with the exception of swift anklet, are slight. Unless you're up against a pro you should stand a reasonable chance of outplaying them. If you don't, then don't blame the game. No changes are necessary.
Honestly I wish the favor items were more powerful, most of them are complete trash. I would only use two or three of them ever. Maybe they will add more in time.
Favor items should be more powerful and available to all players from the start of the game. They should play the role of your doctrine choice in company of heroes. They should not be persistent rewards that make you much better than the poor sods who can't afford them yet.
Favor items, much like unlockables in COD4, are rewards for those who have played a while. it is possible to beat an opponent with a powerful favor item, it's just more difficult. Smart play tactics.
Now, we're of course assuming the whole point of the game is killing enemy heroes. There is only one gameplay mode where that is true (Slaughter.) The other three, killing your opponent only helps, but is not the point of the game. Assuming the sole purpose of the three other game plays is also killing heroes is linear thinking at it's worse.
Killing or driving off other DGs enables you to cap more flags. Capping more flags wins dominate matches and let's you get giants sooner in other matches(which often wins fortress and citadel). I'd say it's pretty damned important to be able to do this based on flags alone(and flags are not the only benefit).
Heaven's Wrath imo needs a massive nerf, its too easy to control the map without even having to be there
You are retarded. Thank you for your input, I will file it in the "Retarded" folder.
I don't know if you read my post and didn't understand it, or just went ahead and ignored it altogether. I'm going to walk you through it slow. Here are the main points:
1. Favor items are not overpowered...depending on the level. You see, follow me here, if I'm level ONE and you're level ONE and you have an expensive favor item and I DON'T, I'm going to get boned. Swift Anklet=rape, poisoned dagger=rape. Lots of them=rape. HEY! THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART: THIS ONLY APPLIES AT LOW LEVELS.
See, they are only overpowered BEFORE you opponent has a chance to get some gold of his own and buy some items. Sure, THEN you'll STILL have an advantage, but not an overpowering one. HEY! Read this too: FAVOR ITEMS ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE OVERPOWERING.
2. Here's the answer: Restrict the more expensive favor items to a higher war rank. That way, you can still use the good items, just not use them to rape 1st level people who don't have a chance.
Thank you for referencing COD4 so I can go from there. You are totally wrong. See, in COD4 slightly more damage or slightly more penetration, or slightly more accuracy give you a slight edge. 15% bonus move speed at level one give you an ENOURMOUS ADVANTAGE BECAUSE IT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO RUN AWAY. I'm using caps so it stands out. See it? This is unfair AT THIS LEVEL. I think the Swift Anklet is great. I love it. But it is unfair to be able to use at the very start of the game.
Thank you for choosing one of the worst favor items as a basis as well as a concept which is not the game itself. Allow me to elaborate.
HERO KILLING DOES NOT WIN YOU THE GAME*
*for 3 out of 4 of the gameplay styles.
Hero killing most certainly gets you more gold and is a detriment towards another player but it does not make or break the game. One gameplay mode is about destroying the main base, another capturing flags, and another for destroying forts. It's a viable tactic to be able to do enough damage to cause an opponent to retreat as oppose to killing them. On a large enough map, running to heal and then running back to fight can sometimes be longer than dying, waiting and returning to battle.
Killing a hero at level 1 is a great impediment to progression but should not always be the focus. Hero killing is a short term strategy. Long term, you want to focus on earning a good economy, getting deep into the enemy base, and holding ground. That does not make the Favor Items themselve unabalanced. Merely makes certain strategies less effective.
The better weapons in COD4 can make a world of difference. Case in point, a skilled sniper with the right skills and good rifle. Depending the map and strategy your opposing team employs, the enemy is simply owned. It's the right a player earns for playing a lot. A bonus. A reward. And, more importantly, something that makes the game more interesting.
I've been in games where I've killed level 1 players with those boots. I've been in games where I or my team mates have owned players with uber favor items that add to their damage while myself or my team mate had none. It's all a matter o strategy, timing, and gameplay.
line0042, your attitude is awful and you press "enter" way too much.
Getting 2k favor points takes less then an hour .. so ....
130 favor per 2 minute game
start filthy rich, host an online game , easy ai, buy giants, increase speed....
I think the only problem with favor items is that Assassins have some really cool items (heaven's wrath, serpent blade). Generals get the shaft. The only General item even remotely interesting is the Cloak of the Night...but with only a 15yd range it kinda sucks too.
I can confirm that I have won against many players who had Anklets while I had nothing (bugged favor etc) If you see an UB with anklet play really defensively while laning against him. If you see a Rook with an Anklet you can be less worried. If you stay long enough to really get hurt you are doing something wrong Anklet or no Anklet. Personnaly I think dying in the first few levels is a bit reckless in 3v3 maps and higher.
If you see your HP drop to 60% or so @ lvl 1-5 just run to a tower and smash the enemy demigo there if he is stupid enough to follow. The towers are really powerfull at lower lvls. If your HP drops below 30~40% you should consider using that teleport scroll depending on the situation.
There is only one Demigod who can handle towers easily at levels 1-3. That's the Rook.
heres a sugestion. Learn to play.
why dont you listen to yourself and think about what you are going to say before you say it. your sugesting that we shouldnt be able to use favor items untill its too late for them to make a difference. thats just stupid.
on top of that there are other things you should consider. first of all if a favor items makes that much of a difference at any point perhaps you need to just give up at this game. second the low cost favor items give you a significant early game advantage. with more xp or decreased itmes costs you should be able to outlevel your enemies early game. Also, how about you dont fight demigods at level 1. third How about you go level up on reinforcements, or cap a flag or stay with a teammate who knows how to play.
fourth, QQ moar bitch. seriously, your crying about OP favor items? words can barely describe how pathetic that is. The fact that your entire post basicly says if we disagree with you we are retarded just screams "i cant play this game for shit, but thats not my fault" you say WoW is bad, well thats because of people like you. everytime someone like you runs into a problem they cant imediatly solve, they cry and say its OP. and when we get enough of you people, the developers have to listen. But now the change they just made means that the game is slightly unbalanced in a different way, so you start up again. Next thing you know it, all demigods are basicly just different shades of white, with all the same abilities, strengths, and weekneses, and the game isnt worth playing. I hope something happens to your computer and you can never get on the internet again.
OK, allow me to elaborate. I NEVER said hero killing won the game. And I think poll results would show that the swift Anklet is one of the BEST favor items, not the worst.
You missed my entire point which was this: At early levels, people without favor items are at a huge disadvantage against those who have expensive ones.
I didn't say this breaks the game wide open, or that all favor items are OP. I said it makes it UNFUN for people who don't have them.
HEY, all you fuckers whining about me learning to play: I HAVE the favor items. But I can see past myself and think about other people, because I'm not an insecure twat who only thinks about himself.
Powerful favor items give un unfair advantage at early levels, because your opponent hasn't had a chance to buy regular items which can close the gap.
I've bolded the most retarded parts of your post to easily pick them out.
1. 15% movement speed at level one makes a massive difference. You can't OUTPLAY THAT one on one.
2. I already stated that I have lots of favor items. You clearly don't know how to read, much like you write at a sixth grade level.
3. Wow is bad because it just sucks all of its own accord.
4.Actually, I play quite well. Not nearly the best, but not the worst either. I enjoy favor items. Love that anklet! But, I realize that is is very, very unfair at early levels to people who don't have it, and I like my games the best when everyone has fun.
5. Hopefully someone does listen.
6. Probably the most impotent insult ever. After the first part of your post I really expected more.
So, I'll reiterate.
1.Expensive favor items are OP, ONLY AT LOW LEVELS. (Swift anklet particularly, and many others I'm sure-this is because at low levels the opponent without the item doesn't have the ability to catch up yet with gold, etc)
2. I suggest making the more expensive favor items available only after certain war ranks, to make sure the playing field is a little more level for those who don't have favor items. (I DO have them, so please, please stop telling me "Learn to play noob, haha!")
3. This is because people 1. Won't enjoy the game when they get raped first level, and 2. Will rage quit, which no one likes.
Host your own game and turn off the favour items.
That's not really helpful, as I'm trying to suggest how to make the game fun for everyone, not just people who host custom games. I am aware of the ability to do so.
You=/=Everyone
I think most people can handle favour fine. So I don't know who this 'everyone' you're talking about is.
Start hosting custom games, or stop complaining.
I personally don't like fighting against Regulus. So, for the sake of making the game fun for everyone, I suggest that we remove Regulus from the game.
Thank you for clearly not reading any of my posts. I love repeating myself.
I have favor items. I like favor items. I understand that people without favor items don't like getting raped at level one by people who do have powerful ones. I'm mature enough to realize that games aren't just about ruining other people's fun by raping them, so I've suggested this fix. Go actually read the thread next time before you input.
If you have a problem with favour items, then play with them off.If you dont - go play with them
Ok, seriously try reading the thread before posting. You have no idea what this thread is about.
I prefer favor items being more powerful than they currently are. I fully support the notion that the game is most fun when I feel like A GOD. An unstoppable force! And for those people who still need to work their way up to the better items, it will feel SO OH OH OH good when they get there.
I do not want aneimic items or anemic abilities or anemic builds. I want power I can shove in your face and go WRAR!!!!!! And when you progress to the point where you can do the same you will enjoy it too.
Having something to work towards is a benefit.
Maybe some of us stopped reading once you reached your conclusion that a large portion of the player base are retards. If you want support, resort to a more diplomatic rethoric.
