A central place for people to list people they've had a bad experience with, why, and for those accused to vindicate.
The site is pretty simple right now. I'll be adding more features this week. Feel free to suggest a new feature or change you'd like to see.
You can view bans without registering but in order to submit a ban you must register.
The url is : http://www.dgbanlist.com
Thanks!
I think this is a terrible idea, for reasons already stated by others in this thread repeatedly.
I also find it very impractical to wait for someone to get in my lobby, then alt tab, go check the site, search for his name and check to see if he's on the list.
Which is why this will never catch on. Atleast this site.
Holy christ... some of you guys need to chill out.
Based on what I was reading and experiencing first hand I thought this might be a useful tool for the community.
Some of you sound like rush limbaugh going on about how this is going to bring about the end of the world as we know it.
It won't. It's not that big of a deal.
Anyways... the constructive criticism I appreciate. The other nonsense.. well, sorry but you need to grow up.
Almost forgot. One of the things that could be done is set up a bot in an irc channel so you could just ask the bot and it would tell you.
Ugh IRC is too painful lol. It's got to be farm more steamlined. Seriously, I have no clue how to code but it CANT be that hard for someone to rip banlist apart and port it over to DG can it? At it's most basic function it's a glorified post it note. Certain features aren't needed (auto refresh, /latall, etc) but I'd assume it can't be that hard for someone who knows what they're doing to make it keep track of players and alert your when a banned player joins.
Dump the global banlist that people are freaking out about now. I'd save it for league play like TDA. A fair system with rules in place, replays, and an appeal system. Shouldn't be something your average dude should be able to use.
It's fairly complicated. You have to watch the data coming in from the game and interpret what it means... it's not something very simple to do.
Purhaps it is harder than I figure it is. I'd think that even if banlist doesnt work out of the box with DG it atleast provides some sort of general idea as to how to get where you want to be. It's easier to build something when you know what it is your building. Maybe it's not lol.
But IMO that's the program people will be looking for and wanting, falling short of that I don't think is an option.
It already is that way. If you even say you have a problem with the state of the game ATM players will flame you call you a tool. If you say have patience other players will call you a fanboy. IMO if you make a mulitplayer only game make sure the multiplayer part works.
Well as a majority of the community has now told you - you thought wrong.
You must have misread your other post which was actually called: 'Is there much interest in a banlist type site for the game?' Because all I read in that post was "It's a bad idea".
A vocal minority does not make a majority.
You based your thought that it would be a useful tool on this same vocal minority then.
Or more likely, you don't care what people say. Admit it.
Indeed. alban987, on what "majority" do you base your assumption, that the community wants something like this?
nearly every game I've played where someone drops or rage quits or is running the game on a pentium 2, they say, "boy I wish I knew they were going to do that before the game started"
Maybe I don't understand why some of the people here are getting so worked up and upset over this.
Instead of giving ideas that would help to improve the functionality or povide something you'd like, you just stomp your feet and whine and complain. That never helps anyone.
The goal isn't to ostracize people. The goal is to create the most fun filled game experience possible.
No Replay, No Screenshot, No banlist. Simple as that. You need admins who look at the proof and will either allow or deny posting to the list.
I don't like it. Just my two cents, but we should be helping people accumilate into the community not segregate them.
I had my initial doubts about the site, but it seems like the bans are already coming in, very useful:
I understand that concern. I'm working on making "personal" banlists.
You know it's interesting that there is a legitimate ban on there already. I played with Xira 2 days ago I believe when he rage quit.
This might work better if the system maybe required 5 people to vote for the same player before they were added. That would be a little less questionable.
I just went to your site and one of the only 2 ppl on there I know for a fact was some guy being a jerk adding him. This is a bad idea imo. How about people who suddenly have this crash problem after the most recent update? With all the connection problems they are having with this game, adding a banlist for people who don't make it to the end of the game is just wrong. I'm personally going to boycott any lobbies i know are using your page. Part of this comes from the fact that I've been trying to build a reputation of sticking it out no matter what (i've even won a 3v3 with 2 ai teammates). This most recent update has given me the crash to desktop with no error bug, and it's no fault of my own.
This is who supports your list.
Dude, so many people, including Stardock staff have told you that this site is wrong.
Why must you commence?
I'll tell you right now, I ever see you in my games and I'm going to kick you.
Just for making this website.
Look at post #92, cmon dude, get rid of this crap.
this really is a terrible idea. it's a ban site being run by a guy who thinks he's doing the community a favor and refuses to listen to the opposite side of the argument.what if a legit player gets banned and you're simply in a bad mood the day they try to appeal? they're unfairly banned and on top of that they have no way to fix it even though they went through the proper channels and did nothing wrong. what if someone gets unfairly banned and leaves and angry message bashing you in the appeal? you're not going to let them off the hook either. with an incomplete replay system someone you can't be sure that someone did something wrong. even if they implement a replay system, would you sit down and watch every single one to make sure it was a legit ban?i'm sure you have good intentions with this but user-controlled banlists have poor implementation and aren't useful for those reasons.
Sure, and stardock also released the game with broken multiplayer. They're not infallable. As a matter of fact they want to incorporate this sort of thing right into impulse.
and you can kick me from your game if you like. it's your choice.
One of the things requested was a personal ban list. I just finished adding that.
The next thing I'm working on is a 'weight' measurement for the main list so it will take something like 5 or so bans on a personal list to get you there... or something similar.
I am listening but here's the thing. Noone is forcing you to use it. On either side. I'm not DEMANDING every rush over and use this. I simply thought it could be a useful tool in our arsenal to keep people with shitty attitudes out of a game.
I am putting in precautions from unfair adding to the list, as well. If you submit a ban, your IP as well as email address are logged to your account. Sure it's not a fail safe but if you abuse the system, you run the risk of being blocked from it. Sure I suppose you could make a new email account and proxy up a new IP if you really wanted to go through the toruble but it seems like a waste of time to me.
