ok, i have this idea for a new faction (and no, i dont mean adding the Empire, Babylon 5, or Halo into the mix, i mean a completely new faction)
Get this, ROBOTS!
Ok, these robots (who i have yet to name) would be the remains of their maker species called the "Sarojen" that lived on a junk-planet. due to a programming error, these robots have annihilated their creators, but soon after and felt a type of remorse for the mass genocide. wanting to keep the memory of their deceased creators alive, they expanded their borders to spread the culture (i mean the memory of the makers, not colored space lanes) of the extinct species. while conquering another species in their quest to keep the makers "alive", the TEC received a distress signal alerting them of a new force to be reckoned with...
in short, they are machines that want to take over the universe because that is the only way they belive that the memory of their makers can survive.
their ships would look like they were made in a scrap yard, mostly because that was what their home planet was like. their main tactic is not culture spreading (now i mean coloring in the space lanes) like the Advent, nor is it having many very weak units like Starcraft's Zerg; but they rely on the power of versatility. An idea of mine is that they would be able to attach frigates to their capital ships, therefore increasing the power, health, and armor of the capitals.
different types of frigates boost certain abilities of the capital, for example:
attaching a planet-bombing frigate would increase planet bombing skill (what else?)
or docking a heavy frigate (like the Destra Crusader or equivalent) would give the capital a more advanced version of the frigate's attack (which i think should be a barrage of short-range missiles).
etc.
The planet type they prefer would be junk-planets (i think you know why) and instead of having a ship or building that heals your forces (such as a repair bay), they regain health by killing enemies (by reclaiming the wreakages).
this idea seems like it could fit into the Sins cannon quite well i think (i hope you think so too)
That is my idea, i hope that i have explained my idea to the fullest. if you have questions or comments on this idea, please ask or whatever. and please, no hate-mail.
If you want to make a mod about this idea (not that anyone would, but have to state this) please ask me first...
Thank you for hearing my idea
Zoythus
my personall opinion on the robot's origin is that after their maker died the robots went dormant and started to decay physically untill the advent expelled from thier home planet happened across this technological gem and sacked what they thought looked like it might help them to thier technological goals and left hoping to find more planets like this. (they didn't stay because the atmosphere was toxic and all the junk made it hard to build) When the Advent started to leave the robots woke up and recognizing that the advent were biological hoped they were thier makers returned to life and were quite pissed to find not only were these people not thier makers but they had sacked most of the research centers and were about to leave. So the robots in this agravated state took the advent shuttles that were still on the planet and tried to pursue them but unable to leave the gravity well in these shuttles they had to make a shipyard and ships which took them awhile to do. After the robots built a small fleet they started tracking the advent to guess where the war that sins of a solar empire is set in. Knowing that they had to quickly adapt to these hostile races they started industrializing planets so they could make a bigger fleet
some troop ideas i have are
The Ripper
rippers would have no guns. they would have little health and no shield. they would be faster than any other ship and able to reverse direction instanly. What rippers would do is to fly up to an enemy ship and rip a gun off. After they have taken the gun they will go to the nearest of your ships and mount the gun on it. (this does not include other rippers) these ships would resemble Squidys from the Matrix
The Salvagers
there would be both a frigate and a cruiser variant of this. These would not start with wepons but can have them mounted on by Rippers. These ships would collect junk from your planets atmosphere and carry it into battle and be capable of repairing your ships with the junk in its cargo hold and be able to gather limited amounts of debris. they would also have the ability to egect their cargo if near one of your planets it would help replenish the junk field. If ejected in an enemy system it would create a ring of junk that they would not be able to build in. if they eject thier junk in the middle of alot of ships they will damage of all the ships nearby (including other robot ships)
and for a building
a ship altering station (haven't got a name for it)
you would set it into one of several modes. Such as adding new guns to near by ships or adding armor or engiene speed ect. Every ship could only be upgraded once per centre. You would be able to increase the number of different types of upgrades, the speed of upgrades, the quality of upgrades, and the number of upgrades each ship can have with reaserch
It would tie up loose ends of the lore within the game, IE the Vasari's planets being "eaten", and 'fear stricken men,
idk, the idea was that you make up your own lore but still... it would be wicked awesome to have a new faction
they dont?
i wasnt talking about robots... what do robots have to do with a transport lab experiment gone wrong?
i was simply giving another idea that fits into existing lore, hopefully one that sounds pretty good.
i mean, ships from hell... you wouldnt run from that?
what if the ripper and salvager units were the same thing? you build a salvager and it is encompassed with rippers. The rippers would heal it with wreakages, while the salvager would protect the rippers.
that would be a good idea
"where we are going, you dont need eyes to see" good movie. Event Horizon by the way.
THATS IT!
thanks, that was bugging the hell out of me
so does anyone think itll be a good idea?
i really dont like the idea of people tampering with things that no mortal should mess with...
if anyone is intrested in my ripper idea i just want to say i agree that rippers should be like strike craft that the salvagers are swarmed by rippers that are the size of strike craft
i also had an idea for defensive rippers. these rippers would be about half the size of most frigates. they would initially cost very little and take 1 tactitcal slot. you would only build 1 defensive ripper at a time but each defensive ripper would passivley take some of your junk and make more of themselves and turn into a swarm. the swarm would attatck the same ship all at once. Defensive rippers would (unlike thier smaller counterparts) would be able to attach 1 or 2 salvaged wepons to each other.so not only do they grow more numerous over time they also gain power every time an assult on that planet is repelled
well, we have to keep in mind that if we would like this faction to be in the game, then we cant add new content that no one else can use (the Advent cant use junk). making stuff that only applies to one faction makes the game unbalanced (i should know, im a modder). Im sorry if this puts a kink in your idea, but we have to think realistically. Now, havaing a junk planet would be ok, as long as it has something that all factions could use (like having randomized resource asteroids).
I do like your ideas, dont get me wrong, but i have noticed that you guys want to make a faction that is uberly OP; and that cant happen (the devs would look down on it)
Thank you for giving this idea all of your input, the Robots would thank you, but let us no longer make any "they totally need a ship that can destroy the whole galaxy in one shot!" ideas.
there should also be a ship able to incorporate space junk into new ships using their tech (very weak ships, no sheilds, but large swarms come out of big battles). also (i take no credit saw in another post) they should only have sublight engines. but maby some way other than phase jump (uses a lot of energy) to get back and forth from star systems, maby like supergates in stargate? but they have to go very slowly to be able for the vasari to be able to set up shop without getting overrun.
say what?
no man (or robot) should be messing with Hell. Hell is a horrible place, i dont want to play a game that glorifies a place designed for the damned.
So like the bad guys from Mass Effect?
1) im not talking about robots im saying, just like in the movie "Event Horizon", the Vasari were researching ultrafast interstellar travel, and the shit hit the fan
2) No one was messing with Hell, it was an unpredictable side effect (or unavoidable fact, who knows)
3) No one is glorifying hell, where did you even come up with that?
4) if it makes you feel better, we can swap out hell for some other weird dimension where demons exist, or some other form of life that will emulate the desired effect. To be honest though, its all semantics.
5) and most important, ITS A GAME! no one is glorifying hell, and we arent actually bringing forth demons from hell to play act in our game. if you cant be mature enough to get over silly bedtime stories, well, im sorry
im coming at this from two perspectives: my Christian heritage (which i hold fast to), and for those who would rather not bring Hell (or an equivalent) into an already good SoaSE lore.
and besides, what does the Vasari accidentally ripping a hole in Hell have to do with the Robots?
let me put it in bold for you
IM NOT TALKING ABOUT ROBOTS!!
i was simply giving an alternative idea. to be honest, the most frightening robotic enemy ive ever heard of is Stargate Replicators... i cant picture I,Robot style robots as being all that terrifying.
and that IS what we are going for here... Terror... this thing wiped out what could possibly be the most advanced and powerful empire in our galaxy, without breaking a sweat... and now its coming after you... fear much?
now, like i said, it does not have to be hell persay (though its all semantics, who cares what you call it, its a description) but like i said, it could be some alternate dimension with creatures who could provide the desired effect, similar to what might happen if one accidentally opened a door to hell.
id also ask you not to speak on other peoples behalf assuming they have the same mentality as you. I was just on another thread in the misc section where someone was complaining about 'blasphemous' fail pictures... most of the people were in that thread and a number of them were telling the pious one to chill out and get a sense of humour. id advise you to do the same.
i think your position stems from the fact that Christianity (all religion in fact) teaches you to fear hell. honestly, i think teaching fear is stupid and wrong, but thats just me, you can respect hell, as i do, but to be so afraid of it as to not want it in a video game or anything so you can maintain your blisful ignorance.....
anyway, like i said, i dont want to get into a religious debate here with you. Fine, so lets say scrap hell, honestly, its just lore. just a story. it doesnt even come into the game itself, when you are playing you dont think, oh, hey, look, they brought Hitler out for a spin... (im Jewish so i take that very seriously). all it is is lore and backstory. same thing goes with Robots and the existing three races... you never see the races themselves... for all we know, it could be cute, fluffy, little pink and blue easter bunnies chasing the Vasari (which, i would laugh my balls of at) as long as the ships and tech are balanced with appropriate weaknesses and strengths, it doesnt even matter.
but, if you want to bring religion into a GAME, fine, let me ask you, the bible said God created humans and life on Earth ONLY right? as in he didnt create any life anywhere else? so what about the vasari? isnt that against scripture? or the advent, im sure the did some freaky experiments, thats not offensive to you? in the spirit of progress, like ive said a million times, it doesnt have to e hell, it can be something, anything else, that emulates the same effect, but honestly, its a game, get over it.
and let me just state here that im not anti-god or anything like that, just very anti-religion. Hell is just a bedtime story to keep you inline and paying your dues to the church.
In Australia, the aboriginies have a story about the boogie man, that if you disobey your parents and dont stay away from the river or whatever, the boogie man will come and take you away and eat you or some crap like that. Most people nowadays will say thats quaint, but crap. tell me how thats different from from a christian (or jewish or muslim) idea of hell?
once again, not anti-god, but very anti-religion
i wasnt trying to bring religion into this (although i am Christian), sorry that you thought so. Here, I'll chill a bit more if you (or anybody) will not bring my faith into this...
now, lets get off this topic, it is stupid not talking about what this thread is about--Robots. Yes, having a fleet of Vasari-destroying robots would be frightening, but they need to have a reason to be frightening. If we could agree on a complete summary for these guys, then i could talk to the devs about putting them in.
Borg
...
well to get back on topic to balance it out the "junk feild" around a planet would slow the population grouth but gives the planets new owner a steady income as they salvage the junk field and get the crap out of it
the rippers would have 50-100 hp max and would be unable to do very much if any thing to shields
yes the robots could swarm but EVERYTHING they have would be very weak on it's own
they lose all the recources that planet had since each planet has a personal econmy
so they are not imba just very different
i can't believe no one thought of terminator, a race of machines like from terminator salvation. they take over then go to space
well, how would the other factions use the junk fields? everything must have a purpose for all factions
like i said when another race colonizes a planet with a junk field they automatically start salvaging it and get a fairly good recourse income untill it is depleted
