I've just quit from a game which had been in progress for about three minutes. Was it a rage quit? Maybe but I'm going to have a little rant.
Firstly an apology to the two folks who were in the team opposing me and my ally - I'm sorry for leaving you with an potentially imbalanced match, I hope it didn't ruin your enjoyment.
I was allied with someone who from the first second of the game issued orders to me "Go Right", "Follow me", "Kill creeps", "Come to me".
Now initially I said ok to the "Go right" command and the "Follow me" command but when I was issued with an order to "Come to me" I told my ally to GFY. My ally advised me that he / she is a "TOP RANKED PLAYER" and you know what that me me think? It made me think GOOD FOR YOU BUT MY $49.99 SPENT JUST AS EASILY AS YOURS! When you laid out your $49.99 or when you ascended the ranks toward being a Demigod you may have achieved a sense of selfimportance but you certainly did not acquire the right to direct how I spend my leisure time. I do not choose to spend my leisure time following your or anyones orders.
I am open to learning from more experienced and more skilled players than myself - I can learn a lot from a lot of players, I'm not hot shit, I'm not a "TOP RANKED PLAYER" but I am not open to being ordered around by some randomer on the internet.
I apologised to the opposing players in game and quit and went to look for a game where I could PLAY and ENJOY MYSELF.
I appreciate the opportunity to learn from others and I, not being a retard (my opinion), realise that the game can be much more enjoyable if there is an element of teamwork... However how about a little conversation, a little discussion, a little respect for others?
If my ally had said something along the lines of :-
"Hey I'm pretty good at this and I know some cool strategies for this map do you wanna work together?"
then I asbolutely without doubt would have replied along the lines of:-
"Sure thing - I'm no expert I could use the tips - thanks, tell me what I should do" and we would have been golden.
I realise that many of you who read these forums are keen competitive players and my little rant might not go down to well but remember there are many many more people who aren't "TOP RANKED PLAYERS" and there is no one who has the right to order others around.
This is supposed to be fun not a grind but I realise that online gaming can be SERIOUS BUSINESS! Chill a little, relax. I'm off to try to get into another game and maybe take a little of my own advice.
Some people just don't know how to communicate, thankfully everyone i've teamed with so far have been great Our oponents however...Had an UB raging like mad the other day about how he was losing to noobs because his team mate DC'd and he would have otherwise destroyed us.
funny stuff.
Hmm... it would be cool if the game showed rank beside names like WC3.
Also, the ability to more formally lead by rank so you got options of placing attack and move flags similar to savage. If teammates did it, they get cumulative points that end up deciding an award that would equate to a little favor or maybe even contribute to karma somehow if they work that system in.
Why should your teammate have to request that you work together? You're playing a cooperative team game. By default the expectation is that you are working together. Neither one of you should have enough time to type what your wrote in a competative game. It's extremely unrealistic to expect that level of polite communication.
Typing what you wrote will cause you to lose a competative game unless you are an incredibly fast typer and already know exactly where to go to start the game, so that you have enough time on your hands to type. Since you already admit in your text that you're not an expert, it's obvious that you can't afford to spare the time to type all this out. Essentially you're saying that you'd rather lose your game and be a bad teammate and a poor sport than communicate bluntly and effectively.
That seems stupid.
Having played with a 'bad' leader before, I think I know where the OP is coming from.
There is a difference between leading and giving commands, and denigrating your supposed allies. THere is a difference between teaching and telling someone they are an idiot for not doing things 'right'. THat difference is the reason why I will never play with certain players.
THe point of this game is to have fun; while winning enhances this, being shouted at is something I shouldn't have to, and won't, tolerate.
Im usually the one requesting rather directly of my ally to grab a flag here or attack there or help me here and I usually apologize if I seem to be bossing when I realize ive been sending him around like my mail boy heh. But I just want us to win, not trying to be a loser..and if I am not the one directing us usually no one does and its just a very silent uncoordinated game.
I agree with this... sometimes there's an automatic team synergy and you just read each other's minds. Unfortunately, most of the time that doesn't happen. Worse is when they're just not playing correctly - ie. killing creeps with no enemies nearby and next to a flag but not close enough to cap it. At the risk of insulting them, I ask them to move a couple feet to flag...
nah this gamne doesn't need team leaders this game need teams if you know what your allie is thinking and if u can change to what he is doing and adapt then you dont need a leader
i was sedna my ally was a qot and we had a dude who was rook but quit in the first few mins
we knew what each other was thinking and knew when to retreat and when to move and knew when to kill them and when not to we won the ratch because we faught together
when someone leads they tend to think they are better when they arn't most of the time they arn't which causes the followers to get annouyed
u dont need to have orders given to u to win u just need to fight together
so i have to agree with the dude/dudette who hosted the thread
the dude above is right u need to keep others informed about what your doing unless your insync with your team like you know what there doing
by insync i mean know eachothers playstyles and work together
it rarely happens when 2 random people are like that i have only been like that in one game
You see, humans are unable to read each other's minds. That's why they came up with this thing called language! It allows humans to communicate with each other!
To use this "language" during games you need to type things on your keyboard to the other players. This way they don't need to attempt to divine your intentions from tea leaves.
so u can't predict what there going to do your not very smart then are ya if you can't predict what is going to happen then u mostlikely will lose it is called thinking off the worst so tthe worst doesn't happen
Im pretty sure in this instance your ally lead you. You reacted to his actions.
Humans don't have a hive mind, so someone has to give executive orders. There is no way around this.
actually i believe we were both leading because we both knew what to do and when to retreat what do u call that ohh yh being in sync
u react to everthing in this word weather it is a butterfly fly arround to a dog pissing on ur mates legg u react to everything u may not know u are though
We don't have hive minds, but if you are experienced in this genre, you immediately know the risk/rewards of actions. If there's an injured demigod fleeing, you'll be able to asses the likelyhood of chasing him down, killing him and surviving. When your team mate's nearby, you also factor that in.
If been in games where my team chain stuned, protected each other, double sniped, etc - all without uttering a word. It becomes the *obvious* thing to do so people automatically do it. This only works when you're playing with good players though.
Sometimes in pubs when I play with newbies, I forgot they don't think like that and I end up doing something that looked stupid when in fact I was expecting them to follow/support/stun/etc.
For some things, like "go left" or "i got bot", those need to be said. In battle with experienced players, people just know what to do and how to fill their role effectively. Furthermore, their team mates also know their role and what to expect of them. I played DoTA for a very long time, and this is how the mini-squirmishes always ended up. Even though we were on ventrillo, no one needed to say "stun now!" or "use your ult!". People just know. The only thing you really need to say is "i got <lane>" or "<some hero> is mia". For most other things, pinging the map works fine.
Speaking of pinging the map, I hate having it mapped to p. Because i have my hand on asdf, I need to look down to press it. Wc3 had it binded to alt+click allows you to do it easily without looking down. Now I know that alt+left click is auto attack, but alt+right click isn't used, right? Please make that Ping
That's true, but you only can count on that wordless communication if you know the people you're playing with. I wouldn't trust some random I got matched with to react as I would without seeing them in action for a little while.
So you need to talk to them.
I played so much inhouse DoTA back in the day, I've ended up with this tendancy. That's probably the most frustrating thing about Demigod, you have no idea what people's skill levels are and how good they are at evaluating situations and map awareness, etc.
Nowdays, unless it's apparent the team mate knows how to play properly, I generally don't assume they know what they're doing.
However, there's the bare minimum that any competent *human* (even if it's his first time playing) should know. For example, if there's one enemy nearby and there's two of us, and I initiate the gank, he should join and not run away.
