I've just quit from a game which had been in progress for about three minutes. Was it a rage quit? Maybe but I'm going to have a little rant.
Firstly an apology to the two folks who were in the team opposing me and my ally - I'm sorry for leaving you with an potentially imbalanced match, I hope it didn't ruin your enjoyment.
I was allied with someone who from the first second of the game issued orders to me "Go Right", "Follow me", "Kill creeps", "Come to me".
Now initially I said ok to the "Go right" command and the "Follow me" command but when I was issued with an order to "Come to me" I told my ally to GFY. My ally advised me that he / she is a "TOP RANKED PLAYER" and you know what that me me think? It made me think GOOD FOR YOU BUT MY $49.99 SPENT JUST AS EASILY AS YOURS! When you laid out your $49.99 or when you ascended the ranks toward being a Demigod you may have achieved a sense of selfimportance but you certainly did not acquire the right to direct how I spend my leisure time. I do not choose to spend my leisure time following your or anyones orders.
I am open to learning from more experienced and more skilled players than myself - I can learn a lot from a lot of players, I'm not hot shit, I'm not a "TOP RANKED PLAYER" but I am not open to being ordered around by some randomer on the internet.
I apologised to the opposing players in game and quit and went to look for a game where I could PLAY and ENJOY MYSELF.
I appreciate the opportunity to learn from others and I, not being a retard (my opinion), realise that the game can be much more enjoyable if there is an element of teamwork... However how about a little conversation, a little discussion, a little respect for others?
If my ally had said something along the lines of :-
"Hey I'm pretty good at this and I know some cool strategies for this map do you wanna work together?"
then I asbolutely without doubt would have replied along the lines of:-
"Sure thing - I'm no expert I could use the tips - thanks, tell me what I should do" and we would have been golden.
I realise that many of you who read these forums are keen competitive players and my little rant might not go down to well but remember there are many many more people who aren't "TOP RANKED PLAYERS" and there is no one who has the right to order others around.
This is supposed to be fun not a grind but I realise that online gaming can be SERIOUS BUSINESS! Chill a little, relax. I'm off to try to get into another game and maybe take a little of my own advice.
Amm... yeah we know there are a whole lot of dumpfucks around...Just ignore them, they preform best when are ignored.they also tend to rage quit after one of his team mates dies...
Well some players need a buff in communications
this is a team game
in every team SOMEONE *MUST* lead
So someone says in chat the very brief "go right" , "follow me" and "come to me" while playing and before even thinking of getting some clarification on the tone or intent your response is to tell them they can go fuck themselves and quit the game?
Yeah, you're right. There are some really terrible allies out there.
Sounds like the topic starter is a bit of dipshit.
I've learned to just leave the game when I'm playing with baddies. They are used to losing from what I can see so I just help them on that way.
I can't ever tell which is left or right in the game since I always rotate the map.
I try not to bark orders when I play, but if I feel that there is something a person should absolutely be doing then I'll tell them that they "should" be doing it.
Usually it winds up being me telling them to push towards a specific flag. I'm not telling them what to do, I'm just telling them what should be done.
Although, if you didn't tell them you had things under control (asking them to stop) then I think quitting was excessive. Right now we don't know the context of what was being said, and it may not have been intended to bother you.
Yip I not saying that I'm blameless - far from it, it it's possible perceive tone over in game chat then I feel that the tone was unplesant. I felt that the declaration "I AM A TOP RATED PLAYER" (rated or ranked can't remember) confirmed my impression that is that I was expected to to the bidding of my ally.
Very possible, I do my best to be courteous though. I hope someone I've played with either as an ally or an enemy will chirp in though.
True undoubtedlyI could have handled it better but then so could the person barking the orders, they could have started by not barking orders.
I feel that this discussion can only be for the betterment of the community - whether I come out of it as a dick or not is largely irrelevant.
This topic is another good reason to get in-game voice chat going. There's barely enough time to prep your character and race to the flags. There's no time for a detailed chat about teamwork and strategy. Not to mention, the quick bursts of chat make it difficult to tell what tone a person is having when they are being short with you. Voice chat would eliminate all doubt, allow for more in-depth and dynamic strategy discussions, and I think people would treat each other with more respect as some of their anonimity would disappear.
I kinda like text chat, it means if I'm getting annoyed, I can type in a passive manner rather than starting a fight with a team. If I was on team chat, I'd probably just be like "OMG WHY DID YOU DO THAT YOU USELESS SACK OF ****" and that wouldn't be very nice
The reason they use phrases like "come to me" is because they are short to type. They're not being bossy, they just can't waste valuable game time being polite or more clear.
Key binds for Chat Messages ala Counter-Strike could be helpful, however I think the inclusion of VOIP is really going to be the turning point. Although, if World of Warcraft was any indication, sometimes hearing someone is the worst thing you can do
Personally, I ask my teams mates at the start of the game if they have any plans, and go from there. If there are none, I kind of wing it and play it by ear - if one of them has a general strat, I'm happy to go their way. I'm no expert and am still learning a lot of about how the game functions of a strategic level.
look i see his point but also remeber a person cant hey can you please come over to me help me out. Its really getting heavy for me. Too many words. If a person says come over to me or i need help i will go if i can. At the beginning its good to say go right, i go left ,if there is a 3rd go middle. Maybe its 4s hey i gona team up with x u 2 go right we will take left.
There is absolutely no time to type a long sentence.
However there are those that think they are leet and maybe they are great players but alot of this game depends on your team classes and skill behind the pc.
I was in a game 1 time where a guy siad i would own you any game due to me playen crAppy since it was a fairly new class for me. I just said whatever to him. he was playen an EB and i really can not wait till they balance him cause if played right he is the strongest dG in the game. As i said played right. any dg can be played right but for a class to have attacks to give health, stun, dot that makes the dg unattackable then a teleport. I dod not even go to him being able to have an army from minions and idols. IMO make him an assassin this way he can not get priests and such then he would be fine.
QoT- shield really needs to have a longer cd or at least have other players be immune to spamable shied on them
Ragus- snipe shopuld be decreased majorly to maybe 3 times the range of their base range
UB -spit needs to either have its damge decreased or its ranged decreased
TB- i think is fine he is 1 of the more balanced class i mean sure he does alot of damage but he can not take damage at all
Oak -is fine also maybe his shield should not give him health but other then that he does not do great damage till late game
sedna -i think is ok as is too i see np with her
rook - i think he either needs a speed buff or up its base armor. Toowers well i do not see a big deal with them mabe there HP should be decreased a margin since they do take on upgrades from citals IMO they should not be doing that since the player lays the towers down they should be buffed from the rook. Also i think they need to be active only if the rook is close by or if they are placed within a certian range of a tower or flag they own.
I've seen some decent players but I've yet to see anyone so good that they're playing on a different level. I don't think anyone is some sort of high skilled DG owning machine. There are no pro's there's just people. Maybe I just haven't run into a guru yet, but I'm more inclined to believe they don't exist at this point. If anyone is trying to say "I'm amazing, I'm the best player ever, follow me" they're full of shit.
This is why I generally stick to playing with people I know.
Your team collectively spent up to ~$160 to have fun doing their best to win games. You spent your $40 to play however you like. Both sides have reasonable expectations but when philosophies don't mesh on the same team, drama ensues.
Thanks to god that we don't have a german forum like in wow. good times for leveling my english. but sry that was ot.
Calm down. Perhaps he or she is (very) young. When you are young you communicate more black/whiteish. If you're getting older you fill your sentences with more greyish words... like... please, mind if etc.
GFY is much more worse than I'M A TOP PLAYER. Perhaps the better response would be: I'M A INDEPENDENT PLAYER.
JagerJack: agreed. Every game like this develops some shorthand while playing it. For example, in DotA you will commonly see the chat flooded with:
b
meaning back, or get back, because where you are isn't safe. At first I was like what the hell does b mean? and now I use it all the time. Pinging as well, it's saved me and others so many times, as well as being a quick way to say "come here, lets get this guy".
That doesnt excuse him going OMG IM TEH AWESOME LISTEN TO ME though. That's kinda rude.
There is no time in this game to question stuff. Orders are simple, they should not order everything perhaps, but there needs to be a general guidance. If your an independent player, why did you buy the game?
Dude you get this EVERYWHERE on the internet, get over it or you will hate multiplayer games period.
Jeez. Chill out.
The guy was just trying to help. You want him to give you a midgame reacharound to make you feel comfy.
Seeing people get all bent because someone tries to help them just makes me want to quit when I get paired with a noob. It's a waste of my time playing with someone who is so content with sucking that they get pissed off if someone tries to help them.
WTF are they playing skirmish/panth for then?
None of my business I suppose... They have the right to continually lose, because, yeah they paid the same as me. But why should my experience get ruined because someone else has the attitude and maturity of a six year old?
So yeah...
There's a difference between trying to attain teamwork and barking orders. When people are stressed out or feel like their message isn't being conveyed they'll start ordering people around. But at the beginning of the game it's not really needed. You can give a general direction for your game plan. "Lets try whatever" and generally people will pick up on it but when people start getting heated and yelling at team mates they're going to lose. It's hard not to get to that point sometimes but it will always end in tears.
When you join a game you have a certain level of expectation. You think everyone will have very basic knowledge of how a game like this works. When a player doesn't thats when frustration sets in. In a game like this or DotA most games chat logs consist of 1 letter if that. B= back, get the fuck out of there. There are a lot of missing heroes or they're coming your way or you're over extending so move the hell back. That seriously is the only order most games need. A simple ping of the map is the only other form of communication needed. Pinging can mean anything and everything but people just know what you're getting at. A ping can mean "Hey you, run!", or "There's a hero right there", or "Lets gank this guy", or "Push that lane." It's easy for someone to take that ping and fill in the blanks and know what you want from them. Those are the only 2 things you need to use to convey your thoughts in most games. There's really no need to start talking, usually that'll only cause strife within a team.
Beyond B and a ping the only thing everyone needs to know that goes for every game is when you're playing a game 3v3, 4v4, whatever. If there's a lane where I'm alone against 2, 3, or 4 people you need to fucking push or help. If i'm doing fine, i'm fine, i'll be ok, but if you've got a numbers advantage on your side you need to start fucking pushing some towers. It's probably because people are still new to the genre but if they're pushing my towers because of superior numbers you need to be doing the same and not just standing still farming creeps.
At their most basic level these games are very.....basic. There's only a few things everyone has to know. Backing when someone tells you, ping instead of yell at people to get your point across, and if you've got the numbers do something with it!
Who is this TOP RANKED PLAYER?
anyways , telling you hes a topranked player is well a bit on the top , i used that the other day when i had an afker for 10 mins , just calling out , dont worry i got this game down if you build towerupgrades and play careful we will win , some more tips during the game and he appreciated it , but well someone calling out hes a higher rank every game is just obnoxious.
but well otherwise aside from that , short commands is gonna be everywhere , if you play a game with me ill listen to you and you can listen to me and well have a great game , and if you dont want to say anything ill probably still say , come to me , go right and so forth.
so its all about teamwork and not being an ass , you two need to compromise more or less
I am a good player, and I call myself pro as much as there are pros at this stage of the game. I'm also a "top ranked player" which is totally seperate from being a good player lol. Most of the time I give orders in the form of informing the other player what I am doing. If I type out "I'm going right", I expect you to go left. If I type "oom"or "buying item" I expect you to back up and be careful. If I say "saving for creeps", I expect you to save a little gold so we can get to catapults. However if a player does something totally stupid, am I suppose to correct them? Obviously yelling at them doesn't help but I might have time to type "back up", but otherwise I just consider it a challenge to try and win with my teammate feeding them. Understand as well that for me, "Having fun" and "winning" aren't totally seperate things. My way of having fun is to do the best job I can to try to win. It can be really frustrating to lose, just because your teammate doesn't care enough to learn the game. Finally, just because you pay money for something, doesn't give you the right to abuse it how you see fit.
This includes ragequitting just because a teammate didn't say "Please, if you would kind sir consider the advantages of changing course to right side of this battlefield, as I humblely attempt to say that I have knowledge of a rather good strategy and wish to share its fruits with a skilled, intelligent gentleman such as yourself".
