Top 3 games you regret buying.
Nothing worse than paying good money for a crappy game. Ughhhh
1) Mirror's Edge
2) Spore
3) Age of Empire III - Ugh.. I just bought this last night too. ughhhh
The fact that the world /creatures changed just because my character levelled up made me quit Oblivion withing a couple of hours. That is a concept only rivalled by "So you think you can dance" in stupidity.
Well, if you still have the game it is worth looking at it again with a few mods. There is one central project that brings a lot of other mods together and makes them play well together... the name eludes me at the moment but essentially it adds a plethora of new creatures, balances the world so that there is a cascade of difficulty right off the bat... adds random travelers to the roads and towns... new armors and weapons... other adventurers to contend with in dungeons at times...much more. You can pretty much get mods for almost any taste. Some of my favorite are simple but I also have triedout entire new modules... much deeper than the original story. Very cool engine for modders to play with.
I've never really regretted buying a game, but some just lost their charm:
Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars: Very cool at first, but after the campaigns (never even finished them), the skirmish mode stunk, and I really didn't want to go online to get my butt kicked.
Test Drive Unlimited: Got this a long time after it was released, didn't play the online version as I had no internet at the time. Again, I liked it at first, but it got boring.
Medieval II Total War: Thought this was incredible. The mods still are. Graphics are starting to show their age and the AI freaking sucks. Should probably go multiplayer but their is barely anyone online these days.
Edit: Well there is one. Tarr Chronicles. This looked cool, but it was kind of "eh".
1) ANY SIMS GAME
I shelled out 50 bucks for all of the original games. Never use them. I got the deluxe version of the Sims 2 and now they are releasing FURNITURE expansion packs for $20! RIP OFF CENTRAL! I don't know if Sims 3 won't fall prey to this but I hope not for all the people who have already bought it
2) Civilization 4. I like this game but honestly, why include a unique unit if its gonna be obsolete in the next 10 turns?
3) Any game 10 years or older. I have one thats just sitting there because I don't have the fricking manual anymore so I don't have the security code.
that should be it. I don't even use those games anymore anymore.
By the way, Star Wars Galaxies doesn't suck as much as everyone says. Pretty much everyone who says that didn't even give the game a try after the NGE came out. I played it and I damn well enjoyed it. I might even resubscribe.
In almost every case, the original is the best. This is true with the Sims series. After the original sims series, it just got horrible. The cost for expansions has ALWAYS been too high with maxis and EA games, but I got the Ultimate Sims1(has every expansion pack for sims1) package for $15.00 from a friend who couldn't run it on his comp. I recommend purchasing or bit torrenting it.
It's EA. Just torrent the entire game. They deserve it.
Yeah fuck EA, they'll never put it up for freeware. Thats like trying to keep the first galleon ever built out of a museum.
Yep it's an amazing game but the reason I regret getting it is because I cant finish it. I have deleted characters and started over so many times it isn't funny. LAst character I deleted was a level 12 arch mage/necromancer. Now im a level 1 assassin and before that I was a level one thief, before that a paladin, before.......it gets crazy. The furthest I got was to finding out the location of the mythic dawn hide out. Than boom I delete and reset, but I am kinda mad I can't find any nature spells. I wanted this character to look like queen of thorns.
off topic, anyone know at the final thief quest where you need to shoot the arrow of extrication at the statue, there's 2 gates that i can't get into. There's a push plate in another room which i press but it doesnt make the gates open. Anyone know what to do?
Um.. is that the part near the pool of water? I believe there is a tunnel down under the water...like 10-15 feet that bypasses the door/gate... been awhile though.
Is this the quest? Ultimate Heist?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lx2g4vc5fhs
1) Assasin's Creed: Boaring
2) Command and conquer Tiberium War: Bad balance game pl;ay story telling ect.
3) Jericho: ZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz (suposed to eb horror)
1) Warhammer Online: This one will be different from all the other MMOs, really! In fairness, it was; It was great running the same scenario over and over and over while the open PvP and questing parts of the game were totally devoid of life. Last time I'm ever going to bother with a MMO.
2) Devil May Cry 4: Was on sale for $20, so I figured I'd give it a chance. Uh, the graphics were nice (PC version)...and that's about the only good thing I can say about it.
3) Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts: Not often you see and expansion that makes the game worse, but Relic proved up for the challenge. New factions were poorly designed and hurt the game more than improved it. Tales of Valor was apparently even more of a rip-off. It's a testament to the original design team that the game is still fun despite two bad expansion trying to kill it.
Games that I actually bought (In no particular order):
1. Battlefield 2142.
Tried as I might, I could find no way to make this blatantly imbalanced shooter appeal to me, even back when I was more accepting. The only time it gets now is when I play bot matches with my one friend that has it. It was simply the most frustrating experience I've ever had in a shooter.
2. Mass Effect.
After getting over the new game excitement, I saw it for what it was; a repetitive 3PSRPG with a background style that made it feel like it was Star Trek with a different paint job. I haven't gone back since and won't be buying into the sequel.
3. Dawn of War II.
I appreciate the music. I appreciate the WH40K Universe. I appreciate that the Space Marines weren't just guardsmen with power armor in this sequel. But because of how empty the game felt, with its uninspired, repetitive campaign and hyperfast multiplayer, I feel really disappointed.
4. Here's a first: StarCraft.
I loved the game when I was a kid. But that was back when I didn't think. Almost literally, if my memory serves me right. Now that I look back at it, it feels like the game's ridden around on its map editor. The multiplayer was boring and dull for me, while the community UMS maps - the only maps I ever had fun in - always left something to be desired. And, speaking of the community, it'd gone to utter shit by the time I'd made my first online experience there. Nothing but Koreans, douchebags, and idiots. And it's gone further South over time. To be quite honest, I don't know what people see in this game anymore.
Games I don't actually own (Again, no order):
1. Civilization III/IV.
I like being at the head of a fictional nation. But only when it's actually enjoyable. With the uninvolving and, at times, ridiculous unit combat, the mind-numbing length of the TBS system, and the cheating AI, I can find little happiness in these games. Thank God I didn't waste any money on them.
2. Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil.
I loved Doom 3 to bits. But when I gave RoE an extended trial, the ending absolutely killed it for me. It was fun and different, then bam. A boss fight that's more frustration than it's worth. I may pick it up later to play through it with my friends, but I've no real reason as of now.
Red Alert 3 - I'll admit I bought it for the women. After the novelty has expired, nothing else in it is interesting.
That's about the only game I've ever regretted buying actually.
Games I'm particularly fond of:
1) Supreme Commander & Forged Alliance Expansion - I never got very good at this, but this game really captured my imagination. Watching replays of top players became better than watching movies for me. I could cry at some of the spectacular skill those players have. Just mind bending.
I'm sorry to hear this. Supreme Commander is a love/hate thing. Those who "get it" love it to death, the majority prefer simpler mainstream RTSes. I've also had friends who could only muster unit swarming as a "strategy" and disliked the game very much.
In a real match up, before you are able to build even a fraction of that swarm, the enemy would have had map control and will be cornering you with land/air/naval (if it's a sea map) formations.
2) Morrowind & Oblivion
Hopeless addiction especially with the vast amount of mods to try. Amazing atmosphere and immersion. Top non-linear RPG for me.
3) Mass Effect
Very realistic characters and extremely engaging, mature storyline more than makes up for the more repetitive "treasure hunt" quests. Just phenomenal.
A game has to be pretty awful to get the "make it didn't happen" treatment in a sequel. I don't think Fallout 3 was that bad, although it was not a worthy successor to the Fallout legacy. Two games that do deserve it are in my list of gaming regrets.
1. Star Control 3. Please God, make it didn't happen. That a game this lame exists at all is a travesty, that it got the Star Control name is an abomination.
2. Master of Orion 3. The game made me want to drop kick babies into crocodile pits. A picture of the box of this game is in the dictionary under "disappointment."
3. Empire Total War. This may not be an actively bad game, some people like it anyway. I just couldn't get into it, probably because the era it covers doesn't interest me the way medieval europe and the ancient mediterranean civilizations do. It's still a big regret, because I bought it, barely played it at all, and have no urge to pick it up again.
I was SO close to buying Master of Orion 3 when it came out. Within moments of walking out the door to go buy it. Praise all the gods that I held off for some reviews and checked the opinions on the forums first.
omfg it's like the thread that never dies. PUT A NAIL IN THE COFFIN
You're referring to the Ban game.
Deus Ex 2
Wing Commander Prohecy
1) The Sims - Paid full price and played it for 20 minutes then got bored. Never touched it again.
2) Bioshock - Mainly for securom being installed on my computer. I get easily scared too so I stopped playing after my first encounter with those Big Papas.
3) DarkStar One - Tages.
4) Spore Creature Creator - More securom goodness.
5) MechCommander 2 - Imbalanced weapons and abandoned by MS. Didn't feel like Battletech.
want to buy ff7 for pc?
Warlords Battlecry III. WL:BC2 was *awesome*, but BC3 has a really, really obvious bug with missile shooters. I can't believe they went gold with this crap. Did Ubisoft lay off the developers the same way 3DO did with Heroes IV?
And then back in September 2001, there was a game Real War. Where you basically can play the part of terrorists. Can you say, "bad timing"? Doesn't matter; the game was utter crap. I think it got a 1.9 out of 10 on Gamespot. It must have been a record low score. And then...they had the audacity to produce an expansion pack! WTF?!?
I never heard the hype about spore, so I just bought it without any expectations, and I have to say it was a GOOD game. The gameplay was original (except for civ stage) and the creators were fun to play around in.
The only games I've bought and never played were those that had no left handed controls. Such as heroes of mana. I tried for thirty minutes to use the interface, but it was impossible to do with your left hand.
What bug do you mean? I just think it has a bit bad design. WBC II was great back in its day but I can't enjoy it anymore due to the ancient graphics. Add to that the fact that you have to run WBC III in compatibility mode for WinXP so you can see the graphically outdated units that runs on Dx 7!!
Missile shooters would get in this rut where they would just stand there and miss 100% of the time even though they were within range. You had to constantly micro them and move them around, hoping eventually you would get lucky and they would start hitting what they were shooting at. Towers did it, too, and then there was nothing you could do. Made the game completely unplayable unless you used all melee units. I ran through the campaign as humans (almost all melee units), but then played the fairies and just gave up. Bummer, because I loved the fairies in BC2.
