Top 3 games you regret buying.
Nothing worse than paying good money for a crappy game. Ughhhh
1) Mirror's Edge
2) Spore
3) Age of Empire III - Ugh.. I just bought this last night too. ughhhh
Mark of the Betrayer is a SUPERB expansion.
NWN2 was initially a horrible game, not for the content, but because it was so poorly programmed. People running ridiculous gaming rigs were getting at most 15 fps, and there wasn't anything particularly ground breaking about the graphics of that game. It took them the better part of a year to fix it all, but after they released a major patch (I forget what version number...), it actually started working a lot better.
I say if you didn't like it out of the box, give it another go. It's actually pretty darn good, once it gets rolling.
Mass EffectMass Effect
Mass Effect
moo3: biggest disappointment ever
I regret nothing, and i have Tiberium Wars, Oblivion, Fallout 3, Mirror's Edge, Mass Effect, Bioshock, The Witcher and even Far Cry 2. All of them are good in their own ways.
Well, i do regret buying Last Action Hero for NES maybe fifteen years ago, but i blame my brother for that..
1. Outpost. They called it a game. I disagree.
2. Supreme Commander. They did everything right. Except they forgot to include anything to make me want to play it. Build 8273562 units and send them towards enemy? *shrug*
3. All games with stupid level scaling. Darkstar One and Mass Effect did the exact same thing and they were about improving one's avatar - which is impossible when every improvement improves all enemies by the same degree. Fail.
4. Can I include a whole genre? The "Diablo 2 Killer". They are legion. They are... fail. Not one of them got even close. A whole genre of disappointments. How can any single game top that?
I can't really bash $pore because I had much fun up to the creature phase and played up to there quite a few times. While the tribal phase was still endurable, the rest became increasingly... make it stop. Please!
I, too, am totally sold on X3. You either love it or hate it.
Battlecruiser 3000 was also a fascinating game. Sure you needed thick skin and a high pain tolerance but I liked it.
Master of Orion III - nuf said
Gothic III - load times that took forever to play a horrible game - no thank you
Games that are probably good, that I bought but hardly played: Gal Civ II, Sins of a Solar.., Fantasy Wars, Age of Empires II
IMO Nox killed Diablo 2. And it was released BEFORE Diablo 2. So maybe we should be looking for a Nox killer instead.
Nox and Diablo 2 were released the same year and even though Nox came out a bit earlier... it simply didn't survive. D2 hit like a tsunami. Few series would ever top that. Except of course, the Sims.
Either way it's baffling when a new Hack'n'Slasher has to compete with a 9 year old game. Wonder if Blizzard releases D3 on D2's 10 year anniversary. And announces D4 for 2020. =P
Whether it survived or not, it was still the better game. Blizzard gets huge fanbases for games that to me just seem halfassed. I obviously don't understand that, but hell, I don't have to.
1.) Master of Orion 3. Urgh.
2.) Spore. Double Urgh.
3.) Champions Online. *sigh*
The last two I bought on the advice of a friend of mine. I need to stop listening to that friend.
I like Champions! What don't you like about it?
Definately give Sins and Age of Empires II another chance. They are fantastic games, honestly. With AOE, there's an enormous amount of fan-made AIs that really improve the game. I've been playing it for about seven years, and never gets boring.
The only game I've bought recently that has been a dissapointment was Age of Mythologies. I really couldn't get much into it. Of course, that was last year, and I'll try to buy a game only if it'll give at least six months of entertainment.
Wow is this thread still going?
Sup guys? A quick hello from the dead.
1. SPORE. Okay, here is the major problem with spore. Its not really....a video game, OR a simulation. Its really, just uh....its kinda like someone took plado and used their daemon transmorphing spells to conjure up a disk. I followed it from the very first release of info, i think in..2003? around there, maybe 2002, not sure, I was pretty young then, anyway.... THE MAIN PROBLEM was that it was so ambitious in the beginning and there were so many promises, very detailed information being released on what they game would feature, and then, about a few months before the release, the game uh...yeah wtf idk its almost as though gandalf ate at Pei Wei 3 days out of the week and shit this, this useless soy sauce stench ridden eh....cd. yeah. The game was completely different. I don't think anyone saw it coming. I mean really, nothing about the game was the same, they watered it down, probably due to EA. First preview of creature stage had gore and procedural movements and actions created by combining different actions. Now what do we get? two sets of actions, one is red, one is green. Red is aggressive, and green is social....yaaaay. *shoves the scoped magnum from fallout 3 down throat and unloads a few rounds to end the suffering*. The good thing is the editors, I still spend some time in those. Sometimes ill play the game, *cough* sometimes, you gotta get in a few pity plays before you incinerate it with your lazer eyes of 4channery.
2. AOEIII Is this worthy of being called an rts? What is this garbage thrown upon my golden embroidered silk robe of unmatched elegance and nobility? Me no likey. I think my main problem with this game was the simplicity. I mean, come on. That, combined with the slow pace of the game, really ended it for me. Starcraft is simple, but at least it is fast paced so you are always doing something. AOEIII, you just sit and wait as your massive amount of peasants collect resources for you, and for some reason NEVER return the resources to your town. That got me suspicious, so I put all those little commoners on lockdown and slaughtered them all with cannon fire(The physics engine was cool, I like to watch stuff fall down go boom) The unit pathing was horrible and battles seemed more frustrating than anything
3. Guild Wars: Nightfall. Don't hate me...please don't hate me. Guild wars, is just not my thing. When I play games there are 2 things I don't like 1.Competing with other ppl 2. Lagg on multiplayer SO yeah basically every PVP game is off limits for me, because I find that the real reward in RPGS to be the story telling element. I think that is why I hate WoW and any MMORPG. A single player experience is really best for me, I like to really get emmersed in a game, and all these ppl running about, like this is as competition...take it slow I say! Let me roleplay with this fine sir! Guild wars is basically centered around PVP and power leveling, and it lagged like a bitch so.....yeah that is an insta not playing this game ever again for me. I like those lorepwnage RPGS like Morrowind, Neverwinternights2(now that is an rpg experience, if you haven't played the original), Fallout 3(Yes yes, fps with rpg elements, nonetheless, amazing...if you haven't played the originals) Mass Effect(So many places, so many...yessss) etc. you get the point.
4(I never bought this...A um, friend gave it to me) CIV4 and all expansions- This game had so much potential. The combat system sucked, no tactical, large scale warfare, and I am out. Plus, the games were limited in turns. Do you know how much of a NONO that is? You DO NOT predetermine the amount of turns a game will have. That ruins EVERYTHING. As soon as I see that "100turns left" I quit. i cannot find a way to play an endless game. Damnit. anyway....yeah.
1. Master of Orion 3: Endless wasted hours including with player mods.
2. AoE III, when all they really needed to do was update the original game, they made that abomination instead.
3. Dungeon Siege 2, which I never bought ... but I started the demo and got to the point where the game referred to me as a worm. I could not believe that a game from Microsoft dared to refer to me, a potential customer, as a worm!
Hellgate London will top the list for many. Not for me. I was on the test server, though, long before they made the general invitation. Nightmare mode was a lot of fun, especially if you could change your skills every time you logged in and hit on a dev to refund your stats, and also give you nice armor, weapons, items. I really miss that game!
I dont know what you are smoking, but you need to slow down a bit
CIV IV is the best game ever made. Play on marathon and you will never reach the end of the game.
Does Marathon actually have an ending though? Or is it unlimited?(Please lie to me so I can play this game again, I really do enjoy it, but the turn ending like it does RUINS the game for me. Also the combat is entirely unsatisfying, which also ruins the game for me. I need real time control or at least realistic armies to get sucked into a game like that. Seeing three soldiers symbolize an army does not do it for me and completely takes me out of the mood I get into... Its that "I'm CONTORLING AN EMPIRE!!!" feel.)
I will consume your soul with my tentacle rape daemon claw things.
elder scrolls 4: oblivion...and its for a reason you won't believe
I have purchased a lot of really bad PC games in the past 15 years, but I'll just name some of my biggest disapointments that I can name off the top of my head:
Age of ConanAfter all the hype, this game was an enormous disappointment in just about every respect. I'll never forgive myself for purchasing the Collector's Edition. The only redeeming quality that this game has is its beautiful soundtrack.
Command & Conquer: RenegadeI was a huge fan of the C&C franchise, so I was caught off-guard by this wretched attempt at a video game. Bad graphics, horrible gameplay, and a lame concept overall failed to keep my attention for any longer than about an hour before I swore I'd never play it again. Sometimes I think fondly on the fact that my copy of the game is rotting away in some Chinese landfill, never to be seen again. If I could give my half-decomposed copy of the game the tactical nuke treatment, I would.
Eve OnlineAlthough the concept behind Eve Online sounds appealing, it is anything but that. Good luck doing anything fun in this game at all without sacrificing your friends, family, girlfriend, and personality. Tried it for a few months until it felt like a second job.
Honorable Mentions:1. Black & White2. EverQuest
Hmm.....well....there have been a few disappointments in my gaming career.....considering I've been playing games since I was born (15 and a half years ago), I think I can accurately say my opinion on these;
3. Command and Conquer 3-Tiberium Wars: This was just a flat-out disappointment. Sure, it was cool looking and had some nice features, but it was a visually upgraded, sci-fi copy of Battle for Middle-Earth. Or at least that's what it felt like to me.
2. Transformers: The Game: This still tugs at me; I always knew movie games were bad (with some notable exceptions), but I never expected TF to be *this* bad. I had two hours of fun, then I just threw it away essentially. I never want to hear about movie games ever again (unless it's another LOTR game like RotK and TT or Battlefront 3).
1. The Lord of the Rings-Conquest: The biggest disappointment in my entire gaming life. Seriously. Period. It was superbly fun, true......but for like four hours.....and what really nags at me is the incredibly stupid customer support EA and Pandemic had for that game. Hmm, let's just release one patch that fixes connectivity issues, not fix anything major, and don't even release good DLC and totally abandon PC users! I hope Pandemic redeems itself through The Saboteur, and I hope EA burns down to the ground.
Three games that were the best I played?
Honourable Mentions: Super Smash Bros (original), 007 Goldeneye, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Call of Duty 2 and Bioshock.
3. Rome: Total War: Nothing beat this game for me; Medieval and Empire may be better, but they're not as groundbreaking and fun as this baby was. I spent countless hours on this in my childhood.
2. Mass Effect: I have never played a better RPG, and trust me; I'm a sucker for them. Even though it had it's little issues, no game I know of (except Bioshock) had a better story, or a more 'epic' feel, at least to me. I still play Mass Effect; it's beautiful, it's fun, and it really gets me thinking about certain things. Can't wait for 2 and 3.
1. Shadow of the Colossus: I cannot express how this game makes me feel. It has one of the best game soundtracks ever heard; perfectly matching every atmosphere the game creates (even making them itself), with some really memorable tracks. It has some of the most amazing visuals for a console game (even though it's a PS2 game) and to this day still amazes me more than any other game, and it's gameplay is just rock solid. A beautiful story, and everything else is top-notch.
Sorry to waste your time if I have.
Well, the game is ended by reaching one of several goals (most often SpaceRace). I have NEVER EVER reached the time limit (is it 2050?). Normally the game is decieded long before that. I can do the SpaceRace at about 1920 on Monarch/Marathon (most often I will have lost before this).
I may have to check it out again. I loved NWN a great deal and had high hopes for 2... but it was horrible to play. Just did not have the same intuitive feel that NWN had. Ran horribly as well.
I'm curious.I love Oblivion but not in its original form so that probably doesn't count. When the world levels up with me I get sad. It's not that I don't want those NPC's to gain experience... I just don't want them freeloading experience off of me! Where is my new level for wandering back and forth in a cave talking about mud crabs??Adding a host of user created balancing mods makes this game shine. MMM, OOO being the main two that bring the game up to speed.. but there are quite a few that really make it a fun experience. Un-nocking arrows for instance. Not an action that was included with the game. If you drew an arrow you had to fire it. Fixed with a mod.
