Please note that it only works for Entrenchment v1.05
This is a total conversion mod, so the TEC, Advent, and Vasari are no longer playable

Waiting for it is torture though!
Kyogre12... Please don't say stuff like this because I get really excited and then it doesn't happen!!!!
I am sorry to ask this question if it has been asked before or already has been answered but I just recently found this mod and so far I LOVE IT!!!! The question is will the update be compatible with diplomacy 1.21 or entrenchment 1.051?
I do believe that the next release is for Diplomacy 1.21
thx
Yes the wait is pure and utter Torture not even releasing some pictures to make us salivate.
Above Kyogre12 said "another couple weeks"... it's actually been 7 weeks now... Kyogre should work for Blizzard Entertainment...
Heheh... My texturer got back from real life stuff about a week ago, and should be working on the Valkyrie now.
Awesome! Thanks for the update Kyogre... can't wait!
Hi all.
I came into this Mod very late, and am still slowly making my way through all posts to get up to date on everything.
One thing I keep seeing over and over again is the argument "Colonials don't use missiles, only guns; Cylons use missiles, not guns".
This is actually a misnomer.
From the very start of the re-imagined series, the power-players (Ron Moore, etc.) explained that the factions (Colonial and Cylon) use pretty-much an equal blend of both missiles and guns. The power-players decided that solely for asthetic reasons and in order to make it easier for the viewers to keep track of what type of attack was coming from "X" faction, they decided to mainly have Cylons use missiles and Colonials use guns.
This decision was explained to be solely for visual/recognition and not realistic in the sense of the actual combat capabilities of the factions. In the combat-era of the series (similiar to the current combat reality of our own Earth - except using space as the theatre), using ONLY missiles or ONLY guns would doom a faction to complete and utter failure.
They commented on this again when talks turned to a BSG Computer Game incorporating actual flight simulation of a Viper (not sure if this has been implemented in the BSG Online game as I have yet to check that out) by confirming that Vipers (old and new) would indeed have missiles as well as guns.
Hope this helps, and I agree that Kygore's choice to have both factions use both types of munitions was indeed the correct choice from a combat perspective.

P.S. Love the Mod; keep up the great work.
The Cylons had all kinds of weapons defending the colony (very last battle of the series). I even saw what could only be railguns in addition to bullets and missiles.
What was originally visual/recognition evolved into the default battle strategies of the two sides. The Cylon strategy was "spam missiles and raiders" from a safe distance due to the low durability but high regeneration rate of their basestars. The Colonial strategy was more "in your face" with massive (but unguided) damage and massive armor.
Even on the basestar vs basestar battle, one of Natalie's basestars crumbled to bits from only a few missiles. When nukes came into play, Pegasus was able to shrug off three direct nuke hits (the episode where Lee ended up in command of the Pegasus after that guy croaked getting the FTL back online), whereas the Basestars simply evaporated from a proximity nuke blast (The Hub).
Probably the best way to implement the two sides (if you are going for exactly what they were in the series) would be to do this:
Cylons: Low armor and hitpoints but high repair rates, extreme long-range and moderate damage weapons.
Colonials: High armor and hitpoints but low repair rates, medium to short range and heavy damage weapons.
As far as phase space travel, things get a little wierd. Both sides were able to jump from point to point in a matter of seconds. The Cylons had a much greater jump range, but in Sins this is limited by the map. So I guess for the Cylons you would have to give them a faster chargeup rate and lower antimatter cost.
That's sort of what Kyogre has done already. The Cylons are fast and have long-range weaponry, but they're pretty fragile. The Colonials are slow and lack long-range weaponry, but they're extremely durable.
With Ironclad/Stardock releasing v1.3 of diplomacy, will this mod need to be updated again?
Also:
[ AI ]
I wonder if this will mean that the AI will build Jupiters and Boomer class?
I'm sure it will.... seriously, I doubt that this will ever come out... it's always "will release soon", then it never happens.... The expansion, Rebellion, will come out before this does, and then no-one will care about this mod anyway
False. I'll care about this mod. Cause it's awesome.
This mod will be released, everything take time, Kyogre12 need to wait for new texture, that is actually in creation process, some last update to mod and we will have it
Don't lost hope, hope is the last to fall.
I've pretty much held my tongue during the wait for this mod as I understand that it is made by a small group of volunteers working for nothing other than a love of BSG and SOASE so I get that real life can cause unexpected delays. But if its true that apart from the valkyrie texture their isnt really that much left to work one wouldnt it be possible to throw us a bone in terms of screenshots, videos, or even just a list of new features and improvements that are going to be in the mod? We know that a project like this can take a while but it seems reasonable to whet our appetites as development goes along just to maintain interest in the project with the community. It really dosent have to be much, just more than what we have at the moment where the topic has been comatose for months and a lot of the fans seem to have dissapeared
kyogre12 I want to thank you for making an excellent mod. I also want to say that Kyogre12 has the right to take as long as he needs to make this mod. He is doing it for free and of his own free time. Every one just needs to be patient and relax. The update will be out when it is ready. Thank you again Kyogre for making the best BSG mod.
*Only BSG mod
I think he meant out of all other games with bsg mods. Something which I am inclined to agree with
Your right this isnt something we should expect a fixed deadline for and I am happy to wait as long as it takes but I would still like to be a little more in the loop on its progress (assuming that informing us about it dosent delay their efforts).
Stating the obvious here Stalcore - of couse we are thankful, and we all understand that Kyogre is making this in his own free time. I am appreciative, but:
1. It is human nature to become frustrated when we are told again, again and again that it is "just about to be released", but then, delayed and delayed on numerous occassions. Last year we were told that it was going to be released! Go back over the pages and reflect on the sheer number of times we were told that is was just about to come out. I would have had no problems whatsoever if Kyogre was more realistic about his timeframes. I wouldn't have cared if it was going to take a year, or even 5 years, just as long as I didn't have false hope!;
2. John_Coffey has pointed our the lack of information. Most of the time we have no idea what is going on with this mod. I am a big fan of the Stargate Races total conversion mod https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/314779/page/63/#replies by Dolynick. He has developed this total conversion mod almost entirely on his own, has constantly updated his fan base on progress and has created a great community around his mod. He also obvioulsy deals with real life stuff - has a full time job, family etc, but is passionate about his mod and his fan base and still finds the time to keep everyone informed and update his mod with all new Diplomacy patches.
Like John_Coffey said, it is just such a shame - the community for this mod has disolved so much due to the constant misinformation and lack of incentive to remain excited. I do respect Kyogre for all of the effort that he has put in, but honestly, this hasn't been done well unfortunately.
@Cylon_Luvre:
I do have respect for your opinion, but I do not share it.
The way you writing about the MOD and Kyogre really means one to me:
You building up on the point of "misinformation" like we are speaking about a developer with a big company and only time for the MOD behind.
Modding is all free stuff! Nobody earns money for what they are doing!
They are doing it for a community, because they are fans of what they try to build.
And the biggest "problem" for a modder: The awesome work of the devs who had supported us with so many updates.
Do you also remember the DLC? So many changes in such a short period of time.
As a modder (a privat person without a big company behind) you do have to scratch from the beginning if an (good) update changes to much.
If Kyogre had no updates "in his way", his work (and for all the other modders around) would be much more easier. It´s like a vicious circle.
Real life issues are also a big point. If you are a fan of something (BSG for example) and also a modder, but you have to deal with working 6 days a week, your time is really limited.
So, please, be patient with him and all the others!
Thanks,
Joe
Ah, nothing like being away from the internet for a couple days to return to... this.
To everyone sticking up for me, thank you. It is very appreciated
To everyone else... I won't say what I'm actually thinking. Yes, I realize I said it would be done a year ago. When I gave those timeframes, I thought they were realistic, but real life has a funny habit of getting in the way. I have a proposition for you. How about you work on my college degree for me, so I have the free time to work on the mod. I'll also bitch and moan about the grades you're getting me. Oh yeah, and someone will need to work to pay for that college. Sound good?
If you're asking for screenshots/videos/whatever, I thought you would've learned by now how effective that is. I will reveal things when I am ready, and not because I care about the community dissolving.
If you really must know, part of the reason for many of the delays was because I was trying to get destructable missiles to work. However, they won't, so you're stuck with normal Sins missiles.
Kyogre12 Your Mod is AWSOME, take all the time in the world. To all the impatient Fans who keep moaning, why don't you learn how to mod and then you can play BSG Mod all you like, or better yet you could help Kyogre12 finish this mod ...
I havent actually been a part of the community long enough to follow updates for very long the entrenchment expansion had come out a while before and I seemed to join when everything went quiet. Please dont take what i said too seriously I get that you have real life commitments (i Just finished my degree so I know how much time it can take from your life) I'm also not saying that you have to show things before they are ready but I do recall you discussing your ideas for the mod and showing work in progress models which I found really interesting. Look I'm a huge fan of this mod, its actually the reason I bought Sins of a Solar Empire and its also why I got one of my old school friends to spend an hour teaching me how to install winrar and extract files for mods as I had never done anything like that before and I'm rubbish with computers, I spent a ridiculous amount of hours playing this mod and convinced a friend to get it as well. I still havent played the unmodded sins and I still have a huge amount of excitement for this new version I'd just like to see or hear about the kind of things its doing differently.
See thats the type of thing I mean. If you had mentioned that it wouldnt have speeded up the development but it would have generated excitement even if it didnt work out (or I am greatly overestimating how understanding people on this forum can be)
I know it sounds like I have done a lot of complaining (and I admit I have) but I don't mind waiting in the slightest if you want to get it right or have delays for other reasons, and really everything I said has just been a suggestion rather than anything else if you dont think updates are a good idea I will just keep quiet from now on until I have something positive to say
