I've just purchased Demigod from the Demigod website, and I'm obviously new.
Any asian players out there please give me a shout.
I've tried to connect online a few times (both for online skirmish and pantheon), but was not successful - at best I get a "trying to connect" screen and end up being kicked off. Do I need to disable my firewall to play online ?
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Truth is they want to cut server hosting cost.
If they made something like Battle.net there wouldn't be a problem.
If Singnet guys can only connect to those from SG, then before this matter is resolve (if ever), we'll just have to meet online together and get games going. Perhaps organise time frames where everyone can be online. It's a lot more fun playing with guys of < 150 ping anyway.
I'm usually online at 9-11pm any day.
Testing!!!
New Post seems to be dead.
Stardock is showing us GREAT CONFIDENCE.
First a buggy game.
Now a buggy forum.
Patch 1.01 has made things worse for me.
I can't connect online - not even to other Singapore players now apparently. And my game keeps crashing when trying to connect.
Oh well.
If today's update didn't work I think will can start to consider refunding
Better to get it over with then keep on playing the waiting game for a miracle patch.
After todays update I still can't connect to others.
Not sure if I am connect to fellow SPORE
Count me in =.=. I want to try multiplayer for the FIRST TIME.
Hey citizen kane 2 did you use the proxy thing last night? Because when i used the proxy thing i cant connect to SG people but i can connect if i dont use the proxy thing.
I tired it both ways - with and without the "proxyserveonly". I couldn't connect either way to other Singapore players - I could enter a game lobby, but both ways there was a Singapore player I couldn't connect to - and it was random.
I.e.
Attempt 1 - Got into game lobby with other Singapore players - couldn't connect to player A.
Attempt 2 - Got into game lobby with other Singapore players - now cannot connect to player B, but can connect to player A.
It's weird (and frustrating).
1) Refund the game and get it over with?
2) Keep on waiting like an idiot for a miracle patch?
I personally have no interest in a refund. I might try out the new AI in single player and see whether that will be enjoyable.
You are really a diehard fan.
Can tahan over 1 month.
According to the latest journal post by Frogboy, there's a minor update for connectivity and future intelligent proxy server handling. Before that, there's talk about 1.1. I guess that's the other patch to wait for.
Modern triple A titles typically require some months of patching to stabilise, more so if the game is multiplayer-centric. One month is actually still young. I'm not advocating that games should be handled this way, but given the immense complexity of modern games, it takes a live environment to fully find out all the kinks.
I, too am willing to wait this out. I do appreciate the difficulty in getting things to work right for everyone under so many variables, I seriously look forward to the full glory of the game when it finally stabilises. I can only hope the initial poor start doesn't shoo too many players away.
Nah. W40K DoW2 worked straight right out of the box for online in just one week or so worth of patching. I can say that DoW2's multiplayer works marvellous. For a start, it WORKS. Then, the delay in the game is as good as none. Even though they don't use P2P, I can say that even with 300+ ping, I could not feel any delay at all. Why can't Demigod just use a traditional client-server? They claim that 'the connection issues are now behind us', but in actual fact, MANY of players still experience issues with multiplayer. Just take a peek into the forum. It isn't hard to pick out 10 complain threads on connectivity. Yet the Stardock admins are not bothering about it. They only bother to answer threads that are HELL EASY to answer, that even I can do so. (eg. A thread went on the computer overheating. The admin just replied, get better cooling. WOW! Great admins! They only bother to answer the easy threads. Bleagh, utterly disappointed.)
Refund is not an option since I bought it via retail, and I don't plan to refund even if I could because Demigod is an awesome game. All thats holding it back is Stardock and their awesome P2P.
I think we have to call a spade a spade.
Demigod has a wonderful concept - the game play is fun and relatively balanced, the graphics and sound are great, and the maps challenging.
But.
The connection issues really bog the game down (and this is perhaps aggravated by the lack of substantive single player content). Granted that modern internet connection issus are complex - and at times unpredictable - I tend to think that Demigod could have avoided a lot of heartache (and bad press) had they taken the decision to host all online games from the start (instead of p2p). To me, that one bad commercial decision (to go with p2p) changed what might have been a great game into one that is struggling to live up to its potential.
I have to also say that I am impressed with the amount of (relatively) open communication and sheer number of patches that have been forthcoming. But that, in the overall scheme of things, is scant comfort when I can't get the game to work the way it is supposed to.
That being said, yeah, I'm content to hang around a bit more (with my fingers crossed), but this state of affairs obviously cannot continue indefinitely.
And yeah, I would pay for a Demigod expansion (with more maps / more demigods), if (and only if) the connection issues were resolved.
It's not funny when u buy a game for one month but can't play online at all.
The minor connection update is today's update.
The smart proxy update is next week.
And the GPG update is some bug fixes and a concede option.
Honestly i don't think smart proxy will solve the problem. <---it's just link u to proxy closer to your country instead of stardock proxy in US.
It's a race atm.
Will the game be fix first VS Will the game die first
Frogboy says that only 2x Staff are working on Demigod now.
With the rest working on Elemental already.
I don't have much hope for the p2p connection.
Since i think the problem lies in ISP traffic shaping for DSL connection.
I think the only solution for us Singnet user is to change ISP.
Update for those who are using 2wire 2700 HGV 2 ... that piece of crap.
I bought a 49 dollars Belkin router which i cannot even find the model name.. By bridging the 2wire modem and let the belkin router handles the routing. And using the proxy thingy i am able to connect to the aussies which i am not able to do so last time.
Works with the US people too, if what they state on their Room name is where they comes from.
Hey Kurooon, thanks for the info about the Belkin router. This is something I might look into.
Kurooon I thought u using Starhub?
Since this involves money in buying new parts a little picture as proof.

No i am on Singnet its kons45 thats using SH
I using the Thomson Speedtouch ADSL Modem with Factory FW.
And Linksys WRT 54G router with Tomato.
Changing router for you lets u play online?
Can connect to US/EU people?
Go try Skirmish.
Ya just to be clear its CONNECT to them, havent got the chance to play a game yet. Most of them kick me out due to high ping. Skirmish no people currently tonight then try.
seeker2012: I am not a hardware expert so i cannot comment on your setup. All i know is the 2wire router is very lousy, hence i just changed it.
