I've just purchased Demigod from the Demigod website, and I'm obviously new.
Any asian players out there please give me a shout.
I've tried to connect online a few times (both for online skirmish and pantheon), but was not successful - at best I get a "trying to connect" screen and end up being kicked off. Do I need to disable my firewall to play online ?
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Try this:

But replace the game with Demigod and port numbers to 6000 to 6200, and instead of TCP, select UDP for the Protocol.
EDIT:
From the guide, there's a part that states:
Make sure the computer you have selected is the correct one, in this case I think it should be the computer you're playing Demigod with.
Also, just in case, perhaps forward the same ports (6000-6200) on BOTH TCP and UDP. See if that helps too.

I have to say that I am extremely frustrated. Apparently I can host games (e.g. Playdoh could connect to me when I hosted a custom game), but when I try to connect to a hosted game, I get stuck at the "attempting to connect screen" (e.g. I cannot connect to Playdoh when he hosted a game).
I have configured my NAT to open up ports 6000-6200 (thanks, again Playdoh, for the very helpful and detailed instructions) - and I even called up the people who supply the NAT for verification. I disabled my firewall, and even tried to put the NAT on DMZ plus mode.
But, still no success.
Ah well.
Perhaps things would be better with future patches down the road. Hang in there CitizenKane2, at the very least, we can plan our games such that you be the host. You can try joining other games created by SG players and find out if it's any different. We'll try experimenting again the next time we meet online.
i am facing the same problems as kane. by chance i assume you are using MIO? i believe its this happening atm
Example:Joe on 10.1.1.10:6112 hosts a game.Alice on 192.168.1.10:6112 joins.The two connect and the socket is handed to Demigod and we’re connected to each other on port 6112 inside of Demigod.Now, we start listening for more people to join and the port becomes 6114 for both of us. But server still has a record of Joe on 10:1.1.10:6112, can’t ping it, declares him dead and no longer sees the user at all.
which is what brad posted recently. just wondering if theres any other way to connect to each other cos the ingame alerts for friends is kinda non-existent atm.

Yes, CitizenKane2 is on Mio as well. I have hope that the next patch may solve this problem. Let's all not give up and hang on there. We'll be able to play soon!

I'm sure Demigod should be a good hit in Singapore because Singapore has a ton of die-hard DotA fans. If they are willing to spend $60 odd for DotA (I say, 80% of WC3 buyers in SG buy it for DotA), then Demigod shouldn't be any issue for them. DotA is a mod, but Demigod is an official game mode, so I suppose the support and gameplay in Demigod should be much better than DotA.
I'mma try recommending Demigod to some of my DotA friends.
The two games have very distinct difference even when there are similarities. It would be important to let them know of the differences when they're trying it out. There would be a demo out in the near future, that would be the best way for them to see for themselves if demigod appeals to them as Dota did.

I have a feeling that the port forwarding issue I have in relation to Singtel may be related to something about a static ip address ?
CitizenKane2, there has been a beta patch which improves connectivity. A good bunch of us SG players were online yesterday and we managed a game or two. Try updating to that patch and see if it helps!

Unfortunately I'm not keen to try out beta patches, as I'm not sure whether it will affect the proper updating of the game and/or revert to previous versions of the game.
On a more general level, it is my understanding (from reading various posts) that it will soon be possible to play Demigod online without any port forwarding (through proxy servers). Is my understanding correct ?

P/S I'm just been toying around with Single player, but I feel that the AI needs to be improved. Sometimes an AI Demigod just stands there and does nothing while getting killed.

Not in Singapore, but I'm playing from Japan, so our times are somewhat similar...if off by a few hours. Haven't tried Multiplayer yet, cause I'm still trying to get the hang of the game (this is not my usual style of game, and I've never played games much like it), but hopefully see ya online once I do. If you're good at Demigod, then you can give me a bunch of pointers!

CtizenKane2, this beta patch has been the second one I've tried so far, and I can ensure you it does not in any way affect the proper updating of future patches. The betas are official betas that Stardock has released for the community to try out in a live environment. They're not some third party attempt to get things working.
In any case, Stardock has indicated plans to upgrade the current beta to an official release patch soon, so just hang in there. Also, I've tweaked my own router settings since I was wondering if I was the cause of the failure for you to connect to me. We can try establishing a connection tonight or any other time if you so wish. I'll just give you a poke if I see you online at any time.
mwdowns, if you don't mind, I'll take the liberty to add you to my friend's list too. The best thing I can do now to ensure enough good games is to remember everyone with whom I've had or can have lag free games with, regardless of nationality.

Oh don't worry mwdowns, I'm playing only customs so far. I have little incentive or intention to play on the pantheon so far.
You'll probably see me messaging you and asking you to join a game I'm in. I try to do that to every person online in my friend's list who isn't already in the game I'm in, provided that the said game has slots open.
I'm fairly sure you're not the cause, Playdoh - I'm unable to connect to ANY online Demigod game - skirmish, custom, pantheon.
That's why I'm curious whether Demigod will be approaching a stage in the near future where it's possible to play online without port forwarding.
Ah I see. I have some hope that stage would come soon. In the meanwhile, well, you'll have to host any game we would like to have together then.
Thanks for the game last night, playdoh! It was fun. I think I'm starting to get the hang of things. Hopefully there will be less dying next time.
Oh don't worry about dying, we all do. It's more important that we've put in effort, worked as a team and tried out best. It was a close match. Too bad my lock on the enemy's portal didn't produce results. The Torchbearer (played by th15) resumed control by his AoE skills. I think we should have invested in the reinforcement upgrades earlier since we have a war score advantage.

Actually, they're all people in my friend's list. Yes, they're all spiffy folks that appreciate a good game, regardless of win/lost. I simply add anyone with whom I can play lagless games with to my friend's list. They're a mix - most are Singaporeans, with one or two Japanese and Australians.
Oh, and thinking about what we could have done better is very normal. I do that all the time after a game. I wonder about how I could have better spent my gold, should I have gone with another Demigod build, how we could have combo-ed our Demigod's skills, etc.
It's this "mentally playing the game when you're not physically playing" behaviour that indicates that the game's good and have lasting appeal.
