SP demo only. The first one is a bit of a training teaching about AA guns, flying and such. It also includes 2 skirmish modes against the AI. One has you strictly controlling planes trying to protect landing craft against Japanese planes and ships. The secong map gives full control over planes, ships and subs while trying to take islands. I am still getting my butt handed to me on this map.
Is it better than Battlestations Midway?
I was sorely disappointed in the demo. The PC controls are very clunky, and you're better off using a gamepad for it since they didn't even try to make the UI PC-friendly, it's basically gamepad controls remapped - and it's extremely painful to use the mouse for plane maneuvering. Second, it's extremely narrow (at least the missions). You can't actually control anything other than the one unit you're currently in. In the demo campaign map, the AI would probably just finish the mission for you if you flew around sightseeing
I haven't tried the second skirmish map for the island capture, I guess I can give that a shot, but right now it sort of seems like the game that tried to be pretty to look at and big on scale, but you're just a little ant.
just edit sensitivity and plane isnt too awful
I'm more of a Cold War type of person. Was a ping jockey during the Cold War on the East Coast and was always looking for the Moskva class ballistic class sub, the one they had on the movie Crimson Tide. You guessed it ladies and chimps, those babies were out cruisin' the Atlantic silent as a bunch of frogs when they hear you comin'. With Toshiba technology stolen from the Japanese, they could cruise forever and not be heard. Only problem is the Russians never got the hang of using nuclear reactors and their sailors were either sterile or dead from radioactive poisoning.
Better than Midway? I think so. With more units on screen, better graphics and a reworking of the controls I do think so. The plane controls are not bad and cockpit view looks really good. The last Skirmish map is the only one to give you full control of everything. Due to the scope of that map I can see where multiple players are needed.
