Since "S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow Of Chernobyl" is here on Impulse, does anyone know if Clear Sky will come too within the near future?
/shrugs shoulders in a "I don't know" gesture
Beats me. We got "Dawn of War: Dark Crusade" a while back, and we've yet to get any more products from the THQ catalog since then.
As such, I don't know if this game you speak of will be released on Impulse any time soon.
Stalker clear sky isn't as cool as Shadow of Chernobyl. The modding community doesn't exist and the game is extremely buggy, even after all the patches.
And it has a 5 activation limit DRM via Tages......woo hoo........ even with Steam. Like that makes any sense.
I got Clear Sky free with my CPU... I personally don't like it. It seems to run like crap, looks like crap (especially for the performance I was getting), and you are often left very confused as to what you are supposed to do. However, the latter problem could stem from the lack of me playing the original.
I got clear sky and love it. It's a good game but Shadow of Chernobyl was better story wize. The modding communaty is very good for both clear sky and chernobyl. Altout the bigger mod are for chernobyl since the modders ahve more experience with ti then clear sky and also because they had mroe time to make them. But Clear Sky does have some great mods.
They also did fix most of the bugs in the game. I for one don'T seem to run into them anymore. Except for the ocasional crash to desktop which occures for no perticuler reasons. But it's rare. The performance issues your having are in my opinion more related to you cpu then the game it's self. I for one have an intel 3.16ghz and a 9800GX2 and when ever i start the game i can hear the fans on my cpu startign to rev because of the resorces the game demands ans the extra heat this causes. But since i also picked a good case i am not worried. I got a hurrycane blowing in that box so my components stay at a stable level.
Clear Sky is just tooooooooo freaking hard. I get so mad when I play it. It's a good game but the whole... figure it out for yourself thing.. gah! Coupled with loading time whenever you die.. or move to a different spot.. grrrrr
(loading.......... loaded: "yay!!!" BOOM! dead... loading... loaded: Boom! run away...loading......loaded: oops wrong way.. loading...)
you get the idea, I spend more time loading than I do playing.
Lol seems like your having trouble with grenades and being caught on open ground. Open ground is especialy bad int he marsh since the NPC can see through the reeds but you can't. But gove it soem time and you will learn to use cover adequately. Also in that mind set accuracy and ranged upgrade for weapons are usualy better. Also when you hear them call for grenades, pineapples, sample me this, an many more calls. Get ready to run or fidnt he guy witht he grenade and kill him before he can throuw it at you. If not run the moment you see the grenade icon.
I remember playing through STALKER. I grew tired of the aiming and installed a mod for heightened accuracy. That increased my enjoyment of the game tenfold. From there I installed a few other mods to make the game harder to offset the accuracy increase (such as allowing enemies and animals go anywhere they want, rather than being limited to specific zones). It was a very fun game, with an interesting story.
My favorite thing about it though was their use of sound and visuals. They did a really good job in creating a type of sci-fi/fantasy setting, especially in the later areas like Pripyat and Yantar. I especially loved the area where the mind ray thing (name escapes me for the moment) was. I had my bass turned up so everytime the towers emitted their "rays" my entire room would vibrate. Really pulled me in.
As for Clear Sky, I heard a lot of bad things regarding performance and glitches when it launched, so I decided to wait and see. Now I'm waiting to see if the publishing team ends up adding Clear Sky to Impulse. If not, I'll purchase it myself later.
Bara
Send a note to Yarlen and Zoomba telling them you'll steal Eets for yourself if they don't get it on Impulse. They'll know. And it'll work.
I actually bought Clear Sky for my bf on his bday cuz he roughly mentioned some sort of interest in it.. and he played it ONCE. lol I've played it... twice? maybe three times?
I do think they had a cool story and liked the overall game style, but I just could not deal with the loading and lack of instructions.
Yea, took me a while to figure stuff out too. But once you do it does get really fun.
Game is pretty fun, but the anger problem for me is a bit much. lol I get raving mad when I play that game. lol
GunslingerBara that thing'S name you can'T remmember is called the "Brain Scorcher"
I for on clear sky am using the Total faction war mod. And it's hard I used to play on veteren and the FWmod difficulty set to insane. Let me tell you it was insane I couldnt kill the enemies fast enought. So I droped it to stalker/insane same deal. Had to drop it to stalker/hard. But it still gave me a run. Their's more na dmore mods comming out for Clear Sky.
BTW the annouced STALKER: Call of Pripiyat

As for the agme beign resource heavy it is. So if you don't have a very good cpu cut down the graphics. But for me personaly loadings are about 15 seconds when changing maps and about 5 seconds when reloading the map I died on. I play it with settings to the max thou. Also you need a good case of air conditioned room, because me like i said before this game sucks up resorces thus generates lots of heat, so a good gamers case is needed to make sur enothign overheats.
For those that would be interested in getting stalker but aren't sure how it would run on their cpu they put out a betchmark tool a while ago. It'S free and does not requirer the game. It will take you ona guided tour of the swamps 4x times under different lighting conditions and weather.

My bf has a badass comp for gaming, from Vigor:
MishYu you boyfriend does ahve a bad as cpu. Expecialy the video card. If he has long loading time he could try to upgrade his ram. Does he have DDR1 or DDR2? Does he have extra free slots? Also if he has a quadcore it would be best if he had 4 sticks of ram, that way the cores arent fighting each other for ram space.
Direct quote: "Yeah, I could def. use more ram though.."
and yes, he does have extra slots and DDR2.
as for the graphic card, we just recently upgraded it. It better be damn good considering he paid $330 for it (cries). lol
lol you can't call a winxp 32bit rig a "badass comp"
Indeed you can't If I has the money I'd upgrade to XP 64 bit.
MishYu only 330? for a GTX 260??? My 9800 was double that. Either prices went down or the 260 is the low end card and the 280 is the high end. MY 9800 has 1gig of video memory. What about the 260?
I played through ClearSky last year, its very good and with the later patches pretty stable from my experience.
The atmosphere and environment is what really sets this game apart from the likes of Crysis, its hard at the beginning where the non-upgraded weapons can't shoot for sh*t but later on you'll be auto sniping like a CounterStrike spawn camper. Most importantly though you have a reason and a motive for exploring the landscape in this game something that is sorely missing from most other FPS games IMHO.
Personally I can't wait for the new Stalker:Call of Pripyat.
BTW : If you're into FPS games I can't recommend Left4Dead highly enough.
He shopped around for awhile to find that price. Found it on New Egg. I'm not all techy so that price still seems high to me.

That's some amasing post there!
My personal experience with 64 bit XP has been one of frustration. Microsoft has basically abandoned it. Very tough to find drivers, updates, etc.
I built my computer expecting to use XP 64 bit and ended up swapping it out for 32 bit Vista. Long story short, I have a nice chunk of RAM that isn't even addressable to my OS.
Yay.
So why not switch to 64-bit Vista? If you were going to go 64-bit XP, then Vista shouldn't give you any more problems (in fact, it should give you less, since 64-bit Vista is supported far more than XP).
