I'm terribly confused people...do i have to get on the game first, then click <Ironclad Online> then click <Join Game>? Whoever answers this post...put it in the most simplest terms you can...i dont get computer mumbo-jumbo... Also, i think i have created a name...do i have to use the same name i use on here? i would like to use the same name on here but im not sure if i could....thanks guys....hope to play ya soon (and beat you lol)!!
1) Make sure you are patched to the latest version (use Impulse)
2) To do INTERNET multi-player, click Ironclad Online (otherwise you will be trying to play a LAN game)
3) Create an account (you need to register)
4) Add a player to the account (you can have multiple players)
5) Select the player you wish to use and then join the ICO lobby (button is in bottom right hand corner)
6) Find a game and join it
If you cannot get into ICO, you need to ensure you have the required ports open (7000, 6000, 6112 iirc)
What is Impulse? Does it take up much space on the computer? Thanks for taking time to tell me...
never mind...i downloaded Impulse....i clicked on Ironclad Online and typed in my username and password, but it said wrong version of ironclad or something like that....i went on Impulse and clicked on updates and now i am downloading it.

ok guys...we have a MAJOR problem...it says the following when i try and play the game..."Could not run SDActivate.exe. Try running as Admin."

It needs admin rights to run, which is will ask you for in Vista, assuming you haven't turned that feature off I don't - I want to know if something wants to install on my machine!!!)
yeah i have vista and i have no idea how to turn off admin even if i wanted too! (lol) yeah i'm not really good with computers so i hope you can help me out...
to turn the user account control thing off go to, control panel, user accounts, then UAC, then un check the box and press ok, then restart your computer. dont forget to have classic control panel on.
lol no dude...i dont want to turn my admin off...i am trying to figure out how to play SOASE online, i updated it but now i cant even play the game offline... it says "Could not run SDActivate.exe. Try running as Admin." i am the Admin and i cant play it...plz help...
In vista, even if you ARE an admin, unless the User Access Control (UAC) is off, you still have to authorise the program to run, otherwise it doesn't get (for want of a better way of saying it) FULL admin....
UAC is a protection device in vista to stop programs running and installing etc... without the user knowing. I always have to authorise updates to Sins via Impulse (I also have to authorise Impulse updates too )
hey guess what!? i asctually got on it! on multiplayer but i couldnt join any games because it said that i and the host dont have the smae updates...but when i did a game with someone we both had the same updates...we dont know whats going on...
There are some mesh files you need delete - can't remember what they were then (I assume you upgraded from a DVD install).
If you uninstall and do a completely new install it fixes that - you are on 1.16 aren't you btw???

If you see me on, you can ask. Just make sure you can beat unfair AIs before you try MP as MP is a lot harder and faster then SP (don't want to discourage you - just want to ensure you understand that people who are new to MP generally lose until they learn - which they do by reading the forums and playing MP....)
I was wondering, do you need the entrechment to play online, it says i need updates and i have the update vs 1.05
I know there are update that go to vs 1.13 and up but i can not find them online or in Impluse and yes i am a noob
please any help on were to find the update or if i have to get entrenchment post it

I have a question about multiplayer. Is it possible to start games and finish them later? I hope to be joining multiplayer soon, after some work with unfair AIs, I can beat hard right now. However, I can't play for too long on one day, so I'd love to start a game one day and finish it another. Is that possible?

It's possible, but it rarely happens.
Contrary to popular belief, most online games do not last for more than 2 hours, which might seem strange if you've been playing single player campaigns that went on for days. Most online games take the form of locked team games, such as 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, or 5v5 on single star maps. Since you have human players, the people on the losing team often just say "gg" and quit or surrender once it's clear that the outcome of the game has been decided. In some cases a player on the losing team will insist on fighting it out to the last ship or planet, and while that might be a little annoying, when you have human allies it really doesn't take too long to knock the opposing players off.
For that reason, you don't see too many saved games that are resumed--they just don't take that long to play online.

The issue with resuming a MP game is getting everyone together again to resume. Even if all the players are online, chances are that they will be in another game.
But come and play anyway - it is a step up and take a bit of time to move to the next level, but it is worth it. Winning a game when you only have 1 cap ship and no planets left is not something you can do in SP - your allies won't feed you to get you back into the game. In MP they will (as long as they know you a worth the investment )
so do you recommend that I start now, without being able to beat an unfair AI yet? And should I just make a post saying who isn't so good yet and wants to play with/against me? is that what clans are? being my very first strategy game and very first online play experience, I really have no clue what to do...

Go online as soon as you feel comfortable - there is no right/wrong per se. Just be aware that some people, especially those with [DT] or [_] prefix (i.e. clan members) will wipe you out quickly until you learn about MP. It is faster and things that the AI will fall for, humans won't. Try and find some others who are like you and play with them. Maybe try comp stomping even (human team vs AI team).

Looking forwards to seeing you online - I strongly suggest you get your toes wet with comp stomps (name the game as such so people know) - it will also help you get better until you feel ready for some human opponents...
And download replays from good players and watch them too!!
