Question: How many of you all are going to go back to playing DotA as soon as 6.60 comes out with more heroes (on top of the 80 already there), new items, and new rebalances?
Anyone who wants to say DotA is a trash game is just being selectively blind to the obvious backing it has. Any game that has an e-sport tied to it has earned immunity from saying it's a bad game. Outside of that, it's difficult to come down on DG players as they weren't originally harassing newcomers, so the crap they are giving DotA players is out of retaliation, not out of nowhere like DotA players did before DG (and still do to date) which is what real douchebag players are (remember, though, that I didn't say ALL DotA players are this way, just enough that this disgust toward them is pretty common amongst those who don't play it regularly). Maybe if DG came out first and DotA came out later then the tables might seem different but there's no way to know now.
Its a two way street dude. You have more people shit talking DotA in this thread than you do people saying its the best thing since sliced bread. Infact most DotA players are saying there's room for both. I prefer DotA but I like variety thats my thing. The diversity is light years ahead, but it's also been out for years so it's got a huge headstart.
DG fanboys have to realize that without DotA (or AoS) there wouldn't be a DG right now. It helped me a genre and for that anything deserves credit. DotA brings people to DG. All those people who played DotA but just couldn't get into it because of its over the topness. "It's a neat idea but it's too damn complex" well they have a home now. The DotA players who want to mix things up and play a more relaxed game have a place to do it.
On the flip side DG brings more people into the genre, more casual people. And if they decide to step up to DotA one day they can, They scratch eachothers backs.
You'd think DotA killed someones mom while they were forced to watch, jesus =P
Also the community isn't something thats DotA specific. It looks like this one is well on it's way to becoming DotA community 2.0 by the looks of it. Pray it doesn't though, once banlist hits DG and your account is tied to a CD key it's not going to be fun for a lot of people. However take a look at the WoW community, the WAR community, any community with a shitload of the unwashed masses. The anonymity of the internet makes people douchebags, The fact that people "rally" behind their team (game) also makes people assholes. "This is our game, go fuck off!"
Its like when you were a kid and your mom bought you a sega when nintendo is better (for the love of christ I'm making a point calm down). Suddenly you're stuck with a shitty sega and all your friends have a nintendo. They rip on your sega and rub your face in it but you just tell yourself "sega owns nintendo!" until you believe it because mommy sure as hell aint getting you a nintendo too. So you stand by your choice, you rally behind and defend your little sega. It doesn't matter that there is clearly enough room in the world for both and who really gives a shit at the end of the day. You're going to defend yours and to hell with everyone else. Ok, not multiply that by 1000 and you've got the internet fanboy.
There's room enough for both. They arent even anywhere near close enough for people to be caring this much anyways. Expand your horizons, play both, or don't I honestly don't give a shit. But if you're foaming at the mouth defending one (like people are doing here and DotA players the world over do for that) you've got some mental problems.
well its just that its NOT the dota-players fault that its a bit angry aggravated feelings here , the dota players are usually calm until someone goes and awakes the beast, and then they have to feel the whole load of dota douchebaggery at once
Yeah, you're out of your league on this one buddy. How can you never play something and call it work? Pulling a missinformed opinion out of your ass never makes you look too bright. Something is only as much work as you make it.
Playing together would be an ideal solution as it serves to build on the genre and its popularity rather than scaring away people who don't want to get caught in the crossfire. The reason the animosity is worse than it should be (it's ok to have a little "my game is better" competition; as it promotes improvements on both ends) is the moronic crap DotA players gave newcomers in general. I could start in any other genre and not get flamed as hard for being a newbie. It's the fault of the DotA community (by that I mean the majority that are dickheads) that there was even a reason for this to start. DG fans shouldn't be responding in the way I've seen a lot of them do. Assuming you like either one, then you're obviously a fan of the genre, and if you're a fan of DG then if you could play in a friends only map (via LAN or Hamachi or Game Ranger or whatever) in DotA you would see how good it is, how far it's come, and how DG can only look up to it for its origins and potential down the road.
Bashing the DotA game itself makes no sense. Anyone with half a brain is not bashing the actual game (except for maybe a few mechanics they would like to see changed *cough*lastkilling*cough*). The community behind DotA are simply having to sleep in the bed they made. The meaningful war is between the communities, not the games. If DotA players want the feud to end they have to stop fueling the fire by being assholes in their game. Then the fingers would be back on the DG players to stop with the hate.
Its that way in any competitive game. I played Q3:TA very competitively and while it wasn't quite as bad there it could still get scary sometimes. The good thing is 1 amazing player could overcome the handycap of 20 useless teammates. An amazing player was compeltely untouchable by anyone but another amazing player.
This, DotA, WoW, WAR, what have you are more team oriented in that if you have 1 idiot on your team it can be an almost insurmountable thing to overcome. It's doable but it's you fighting the enemy AND your team and people get pissed really fast because of that. People have a short fuse in all those game (i do too) because you're playing on my dime now. I'm trying to pick up the slack for someone else on top of what I've already got to do. It's going to happen in every team based game that becomes competitive in any way (and I'll make a competition out of ANYTHING).
I think DotA expounds the problem by being so god damn daunting. You're average hunyuck is not going to be able to do anything when he starts and the amount of crap he has to learn to play other humans is staggering. So the amount of crap you have to learn in another game is a molehill compared to the mountain that comes with DotA and people are going to have to spend that entire time climbing the mountain being shit all over for sucking. It's hard to be sure, very hard. Learning all the ins and outs is a blessing and a curse. You're going to hate it while you climb that mountain but if you reach the top you can see how awesome the sight is.
Please don't glorify Dota as if it is some elite skill based game and DemiGod players are just simpletons who happened to stumble in the door on thier knuckles. Dota is no different than DemiGod, once you know the item builds that's really all there is to it.
Dota was a great game, but lets face it the WAR3 Engine is severely outdated, let the fresh blood step in.
You can not deny DotA is more complex than DG. I never said it was full of "Simpletons who happened to stumble in the foor on their knuckles." Mostly because my imagination isn't that good i guess
I'd say DotA is a more complex game in every way except for one thing. I think the heroes in DG are far more complex and interesting than any hero in DotA (maybe not invoker). The whole team upgrade thing is also very cool and a great idea that adds a different form of complexity in its own right.
And while the WC3 engine is dated i've grown to like its simplicity in a way. Except for in very rare circumstances you always know whats happening because it is so simplistic. In DG the game looks so nuts that when the shit hits the fan outside your base with 100 creeps and a bunch of demigods its thunderdome. But that's kind of cool in its own way too. But once SC2 comes out I'm sure it won't take long for DotA to be ported over and get a graphical upgrade. I'm sure it'll take some work but someone will make it happen.
Lol, who said anyone had to be friends? There's a difference between being a friend and being human (ie: not being a douche). Seriously the DG fanboys are being bigger pricks in this thread than the DotA supporters. I never said I wanted to be anyones friend, just dial the psychopath down when no on is attacking you or your game.
Also, if someone bans you in dota, log out of bnet, click multiplayer, create account, type in new name, click accept. Banlist can not tell who you are anymore. Just sayin =P
It wouldn't surprise me if Blizzard actually hired some mapmakers to have DotA built into the game for the custom maps. That or when public beta hits the mapmakers will have a DotA "upgrade" ready by release.
God this thread is entertaining , the "non-dota" players keep on shooting themselves in the foot
Ah yes, buddy.
You do remember that dota is based on wc3's engine, yes?
Well, Wc3 was and still is work. Its a microhell that even trumps SC. Youre units (and subsequently the hero) were virtualy incapable of doing anything on their own without sucking at it, requring constant attention. Mix it up with timing your movent and attack to those of your oppoent to get more strikes in while denying him his, stealing creep kills on top of that. Now crown the shitcake with the need to memorize what amounts to a ecyclopedia of items and the "when to and not to use this and that" handbook, not to mention needing to know every hero in an out and you got dota.
In my book, that is work. You do not agree with my opinion? thats fine by me.
Well, I don't know about blizzard hiring people to do it. I suppose they have more money than god so anything is possible. But I wouldn't be surprised at all if they give icefrog SC2 beta access just for this purpose.
Uhhh, whats the fact that its based on the WC3 engine have to do with anything? Outside of its graphics and limitations defined by that engine? You put in as much micro as you'd like. You can play with literally zero micromangement. Some heroes only have 1 activated ability, it doesn't get much more dumbed down than that. Most players on bnet don't last hit of deny meaning there is zero micro from that standpoint. You put in what you get out, you can play the game with literally less micromangement than DG has.....you CAN. Now, whether it's smart to or not is up for debate, but most players on bnet use little to none.
Learning what heroes can do what really doesnt take that long. Especially now with things like testmode and no hero limit. You can actually take every single hero in the game, level them to 25 in 1 second, give them infinte money and dick around. It's actually never been easier to learn DotA.
Again, it's as much work as you choose to make it. You chose to never play it and pull an opinion out of thin air, which again, makes you look worse than I good sir.
ya, don't get me wrong, I played Dota hardcore for 2 years, and another 2-3 here and there cause I'd be bored with other games. It is indeed more complex, but it's not THAT complex, not so much that it warrants the elitism.
I just cant get into it anymore, I need my eye candy. I think the real test with DemiGod will be the addition of heroes, I would have doubted any other company, but Stardock is slowly convincing me that they give a shit, how that relates to GPG I don't know, I guess only time will tell.
Is it too much to ask to be able to play both?
Where's there elitism?=P As it stands its more complex, I think staggeringly so on every front besides the heroes. But I don't think that necessarily makes it more elite. I'd say putting up with the trial by fire you'll get from DotA players is more a test of the eliteness of a player. They can be pretty brutal.
I'm not saying DG can't get to that point, they very well could. DotA has years and years for a headstart, and thats a big ass headstart. But DG has a team and money behind them. Something DotA doesnt being its developed by 1 person. It might take them a couple years to catch it but I think they could. Will DG be played at the same competitive level? I dunno, time will only tell on that. So far I think Stardock has done a pretty good job with things so that's a good sign.
I'm speaking in general, not neccesarily here on the forums. As long as I have played Dota and of all the times I came back and got back into it, it has always been a shitty thrash talking "f your mom" type of community, always. And I already see some of that kicking up here in DemiGod.
And a lot more has gone into Dota than simply one person. IceFrog has cracked and ripped code from every sucessful AoS map ever released, he is the quite literally the king of thieves.
I'm aware other people have worked on the game before him. But as it stands now he is the only person working on the game from a dev standpoint. He's got testers, but he's the one doing all the work.
I agree the DotA community can get out of hand. I think some shit talk in a game can be fun, and keep it lively. Some people take it too far but you've no doubt noticed the people that talk the most are the worst players. It's always the guy thats 3-9 talking mad shit when he's done nothing but ride the coat tails of the better players on his team. So I never really take them too seriously. It's the internet, you have to grow a pair if you wanna hang out here. Yes, its rude, but if you actually take any of the shit people spew seriously you're never going to make it too far. Just a guess but that feeding bounty hunter talking shit on the other team probably didn't actually fuck your mom
i won't go back to DOTA until there are at least 134 heroes. The game is just too simple until there are that many...
most off the people who are posting dont care about dota so there is no point in having this thread here really it seems kinda stupid
it is like playing atlantica and say come back to wow
the newer products always take over from the old ones so this is kinda pointless dg is here to stay and dota is being pushed out
dg is release i think 2 demis a month so in 2 years we will have another 48 which would be sweet and then there would be another game trying to take over form dg any they wil proberly succeed but it woud proberly take them 2 years
so i think this game will be arround for 4 years of high popularity then it wil be in the played by the absolute lovers of the game
The game is based on a genre that DotA defined. There will be comparisons made. There are WoW threads on ever forum of every MMO. There are other MMO threads in the WoW forums, people will make comparisons. Get a point.
Secondly, DotA will go nowhere. It'll port to the next game (SC2) then the next game blizzard pushes and so on and so on. It's fan base will never let the game die. If there's one thing people can agree on, its that DotAs fanbase is rabid.
Also I'd like a source on the 2 new DGs per month.
I wish we'd get 2 DG's a month, there's just no way
Ya.. like coding jass is actually work
And it's not about taking things seriously (not for me anyway) it's about an over all negative vibe. There is 0 sportsmanship. Everyone map hacks and everyone jaw jacks, it just gets old.
I guess it boils down to the fact that it's a childish environment and I've simply outgrown it. Hopefully DemiGod wont go that way completely, but in some ways it already is.
You obviously love Dota and are still hardcore, nothing wrong with that and good for you, but I've been there done that, got the T-shirt, the shit is really so 5 years ago it's not even funny.
