I know that the devs already have the next patch already have it planned, but if you could influence the direction, what do you want to see in the next update/patch.
For me what I want from the release of a more complex AI whether in battle or better pathfinding.
Now that the release notes for the 1.17 and 1.03 have been released, what do you think about it. and what bugs and changes would you like to see.
New information have been released:
Although it was in answering a modding post Blair Frasier have drop some hints as to what to expect from the next patch:
1. Customizable capital ship names for extra races
2. Developer.exe for 1.03
3. A decent conversion tool to take existing .mesh files into .3ds and back again (boo 3DObject convertor for charging money). Or convert existing meshes to any format readable by XSI or 3ds max
4. Allow abilitys to use beam weapons, not just projectiles (let my tractor beam have a decent effect grr!)
5. Some basic scripting ability
6. More random events (planet insurrections, structure sabotage etc.)
7. Larger suns and planets without the big grid lagging your graphics render to death
8. Actual miss chances (rather than simply damage mitigation)
9. More flairs per ship (say 15 flairs, 10 engine flairs)
10. Shields on strike craft
In answer to your request 1
I don't mind
In answer to your request 4.
If you advent battle cruiser, the ultimate ability is a beam
and 8
hey if you going to suggest miss, I suggest that there is going to be research that will reduce chances of a miss, but in distant star mod all planet types give either a greater or less chance to hit already, I suggest you use that
and 10
why they can be built so easily they already don't cost resources, just antimatter
Custom start positions would not be easy to implement at all, I think - it would involve telling you just what the planet layout was to begin with; I think this rather ruins the point on some maps. [/quote]
Not really,
Team games use this.
Perhaps to add an option to turn them off?
Alot of the times my friends and I want to play in the same system, or star, but the AI in another (mirrior matches kinda thing).
I agree that when online a seamless shift between entrenchment and regular sins would be nice. Then you could see all the games that are currently available (they would have to be labled as sins or entrenchment) and pick the one you want to join without having to restart the game.
Ooh. That would be nice. Not so urgent now, but once there are no less than three different expansions running... it might not be a bad idea to have a single .exe, and have the different expansions on toggles.
Else multiplayer is gonna suffer given the possibility of 8 different combinations of expansions (Core, Core+1, Core+2, Core+3, Core+1+2, Core+1+3, Core+2+3, Core+1+2+3...) means a rather heavily fragmented playerbase... nevermind code maintinence. >.>
Do you mean like Starcraft where you could choose whether or not to play either brood wars or the orignal?
1) More starbases! If I were to add 1 different starbase design to each race, I would do:
a ring-station-style around the whole planet. For TEC probably. It would have defense as its strongest point, adding a force field around the planet (similar to the planetary structure they already have, maybe better - both could be combined)
Defense would encompass the whole world, but firepower would be less concentrated.
upgrades:
Advent would have an orbital station, which would be able to circle around the planet on a fixed path. a toggle button would allow the player to move it forward, backward, stand still or 'auto' (it would move closer to the action). It would have more support abilities for the fleet.
The Vasari would have a stationary star base. This beast would work with different radiation emissions, and would behave differently depending on how close it is to the system star.
Closer to the sun the base star's dark energy core would harness more energy to itself, regenerating shields and antimatter faster, and shooting faster too. Farther from the star, the space-time fabric ir more subject to its dark energy core emissions, the base star has an effect of disrupting non-vasari technology, making ships move/shoot/regenerate slower. It would also have a devastating dark energy beam cannon which would be able to attack the whole gravity well
That's it, I guess. I would very much like to have more variation in planet/star sizes, not to mention bigger stars. And please make the AI pathfinding smarter.
thanks
Take your time! Can't wait to hear about the new stuff.
Well it kinda makes sense to not be able to make the ships if you don't have the technology yet!
Brazialian_Joe's idea is fantastic, sounds like he's been reading Larry nivens Ringworld books
still its an excellent idea, and definitly one that is feasable for the TEC
ofc you would still have to be able to build only ONE starbase per grav well, rather than one of each type. perhaps make the ring one have lots of economic and defense upgrades while making the Argonev more of a battle station?
hmm
Howabout if novalith cannons could target enemy starbases? That would be an ill boost to an underpowered superweapon, although it will most definitely lead to imbalances and i will be spammed for this
Well since they have the next patch done and we are waiting for them to send it our way, I should of made this suggestion a many moons ago.
How about switching the HC's HP and the Carriers HP. So you know, HC can survive that much longer and Carriers can be killed a tad bit easier by LF.
EDIT: I do agree the Novalith needs some kind buff, maybe something to support fleets like both the Advent and Vasari superweapon does. I would trade in my big planet boom for a fleet supporting buff!
https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/350976
...How about something completely unintuitive yet funky - the Novaliths radiation wipes out all shields in the area for its duration, friend and foe alike. "...But how on earth is this a buff?" you ask?
Have you seen TEC hull:shield ratio, vs Vasari and Advent?
Plus you could have ceilos in your fleet!!!
Not sure I like the idea, but it would definately favour TEC
Rofl, that is true. Advent, though, have their shield restore. It would screw over Guardians though since they are big shield tanks.
Personally, I would rather have it completely nuetralize culture (both sides) on that planet, which is most likely going to be their culture, until the radiation wears off. I've always been annoyed by the fact that I nuked the crap out of the planet yet the culture prevents me from colonizing it. Yes, this is true with any form of bombardment (ie. caps and siege) but a Novalith should be something special, right?
When is the next patch coming out? The notes are supposed to be released this week, right? Anxiously awaiting the news.
When are they releasing it again? Do they usually release updates on Friday?
lich1989: I did say it would wipe out shields for the radiations duration... so effects like shield restore and the Dunovs instashield would have the shields stripped away as fast as they could make it.
Still a bit of a pain, but hey - that's why you invested in armor and hull.
Minor amusing bonus - the Kol's Finest Hour boosts hull regen, not shield regen. Muahaha.
My mistake .
However, if it is for the entire duration, that seems a little OP. Out of curiousity, what would it do to Starbases? If it got rid of shields on Starbases, that is quite the blow...not to mention that does 3500 damage to the planet and currently reduces max pop. on it for a period of time. For the duration of the radiation which I guess to be about two minutes, Advent are screwed beyond reason (the battleball formation is useless and so are their guardians; plus they have about the same hull as they do shields) Vasari are also taking a blow since part of their advantage in battle comes from Phase Missiles. Hoshikos are also the cheapest hull repairing cruisers (also the only spammable) in the game. This cannon is quite possibly more powerful than Missile Barrage. Speaking of Missile Barrage, the two would work together quite well.
That is exactly my point, yes.
It has the drawback in that it's still not exactly friendly to the TEC - shields are importaint to them as well, afterall (Bolster and Shield Restore just got kicked in the pants for a start) - but compared to stunning everything and getting a shortcut to the system, or setting up your own culture in hostile territory (which has rather nontrivial 'tipping the balance' effects)... not bad at all.
Perhaps it wouldn't be instant shield destruction, but a high sapping rate (So your massive starbase would have a minute or so of being sapped away), but... still. Nasty, in all the fun ways.
OH! OH! I know!
stop the damn ships from leaving the grav well, including strike craft. sometimes it takes them more than 10 minutes to come back, i just want to bomb the planet! (i am talking about them AI controlling the ships and having them roam all over the grav well and outside of it, like this, but more extreme:
i am very much in favour of the idea of the Novalith knocking out shields in the grav well for the duration. i think this is an excellent idea, and you can even rationalise things by saying it should happen anyway:
i mean, if you have a multi giga- or teratonne nuke going off in (fairly) close proximity, its going to knock out your shields, and at the very least wreck sensors/comms with the EMP. this is what should happen anyway
so what if it favours the TEC? thats the point of a race specific superweapon.
this idea definitly has merit.
perhaps if multiple shots are fired at a planet it would extend the duration of the shirlds knocked out thing?
definitly think novalith needs a buff, i like the shields, but if not shield then how about knocking out weapons? or even dropping armor health and mitigation ability?
anyway, id really like to be able ot set starbases to be pinned or unpinned automatically
having large maps with lots of UCGW's or dead asteroids where you would logically have lots of starbases and having them clutter the Empire tree is rather irritating
Ok, I like where this Novalith talk is going. Execpt one thing, the other 2 superweapons dont have a negative effect on your fleet and structures. Why should the TEC have one also? Maybe if you gave the other 2 a negative buff also, then we are talking. While an instant shield drain might be be overpowered( I think not, but some might argue this. Its just as crippling as the Vasari one.), maybe like it mentioned a reduction in shield migitation. This has my backing ( the sheild migitation reduction.), cuz as Battlestar mentioned lore wise, EMI and radiation would play some kind of factor in how well your sheilds work. A reduction in max migitation and/or reduction to how fast migitation increases would play well IMHO. Since your own faction developed the warhead and understand the nature of the beast your fleet would be unaffected by this EMI/radiation. Your ships could just have fine tuned their shields to counter that interferance. Another idea along side this reduction in max migitation if you cant change the speed migitation builds up is have some kind of actual shield drain. So over time their shield drain and have reduced max migiataion.
And if we are honestly wanting to change the Novalith to have a fleet supporting buff, then I am in favor of dropping the planet damage down. Like Ive stated I would give up a planet killing shot for fleet buffs in a heart beat!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I look forward to more great idea on the Novalith, and have a sliver of hope that IC will catch on! lol.
The TEC one would have a negative effect because it's a bit strange to have an IFF sensor on a nuclear weapon - and knocking out only hostile shields would be way, way too good.
I can maybe see a call for the radiation that renders the planet uncolonisable dealing a steady... Oh, I dunno, 20-40 shield damage per second for the duration, or some such effect? I'd personally rather it quite a bit higher, so that ships that arrive after the initial bombing lose their shields much faster (And thus even out the rather massive bonus hostiles get in it). But it really does seem the closest effect that makes sense - "Oh, hey. Massive waves of EMP radiation are still being thrown off by the crazy-powerful fields around the planet. Your shields just collapsed."
TEC Pilots: "Our shields? Oh boo hoo. bring it on."Advent Pilots: "Our shields? Eh, whatev-- ... Wait, you mean our guardian shields? Um. Er. We'll be, um. Leaving now." *FLEE*
