..at least do the right thing now and purchase it. If only to support a smaller developer who has done everything possible(and continues to do so) to inform and support their growing community. I swear it's refreshing to see the head of a company actually make almost daily highly informative, highly honest posts and keep us completely in the loop. Without that I can almost guarantee most of us would have felt it another case of ok, they shipped their not ready product out the door, have our money now and don't care. Because of this communication i feel like my purchase was not only appreciated, but that it's gone to support a developer who actually cares about their customers.
I just think if you pirated it, haven't bought it and are reading these forums - you obviously enjoy the game. Put your money where your mouth is and support these guys.
There are certain companies who I am certain knowingly release unfinished crap, understanding it will sell anyway and they can fix it later. Beyond the network issues, Demigod is a great game and one i hope has a really bright future. The quality of product and moreso the quality of post-release support really in turn deserves your support also so this game grows. Then we're all happy.
Avast ye mateys pirates be here to stay, deal with it. Yargh!!!
Yup, pirates are here to stay, just like people on welfare. I don't mind supporting you guys, I guess it must really suck not being able to afford a measly $50
One day though, you might get promoted from mopping the floors to flipping the burgers! Then you will have enough money for two games a year instead of one! Keep up the good work!
If only that were the case. Most people pirate because they can, not because they have to.
Na, they are poor. I hear them crying all the time about how expensive games are and how so many games are not worth it. By the way they talk you would think they are dropping thier whole paychecks or something lol. Must suck...
Now that I think of it, maybe Obama could implement some kind of "gamer welfare" program. People making under a certain amount could apply for "game stamps" that would enable them to trade in for 2-3 games per year. Now of course people would still steal all the other games they wanted, but it would help the few developers that the "game stamps" were used with.
Stickie thread imo.
Bumping for valid point. Also, to throw in a pharaphrase of a quote from Frogman about Demigod's Multiplayer "Demigod, the game, is great. Demigod, the multiplayer experience, is utter crap right now. We're going to fix this"
Well, if i could play pirated one i would not buy it, i would pirate it. I only bought because it wont work with that hamachi crap.
People here make arguments like "Get used to buying shit, they'll fix it later". Hey, do you make shitty job and get payed? How about you skip job and still get payed? How about you come to a new job and suck at it, do no good but still get payed because "you will improve later"?
That aint happening? So why should we play for games that suck beforehead, and hope for the fix later?
I say if this is a DOTA like project, donate if you want. If this is a commercial project, where we pay money to receive, we paid for shit, for now.
Totally struggling to remotely comprehend what you're saying or how someone underperforming in a job relates to a product released with problems.
kekeke
Haha nicely written mate
All you guys that find it normal for games to be broken on release are to blame in the end. It's because of you developers release unplayable games and get away with "we will fix it". So far I haven't been able to play a multiplayer game without waiting at least 30 minutes, and when it started, I got disconnected or another person did. Should I mention the constant freezes while playing multiplayer?
The only way I could get into a proper multiplayer experience with this game is thanks to GameRanger, and guess what, most multiplayer games on GameRanger are illegal copies and those guys really enjoy this game without even paying for it.
But hey, you are very greatefull for the fact that devs are keeping you guys in the loop (actually they have no ideea how to fix this).
"If you pirated Demigod..." ... i wouldn't be here, reading your redundant preaching.
What this game needs is a good demo. Almost no game nowadays comes with a decent demo. Demos are what help people make up thir mind. If you don't give demos, expect them to pirate the game to see how it is. And then expect them to keep the copy instead of buying it, because i mean whats the point, they have the game already.
Demos were great advertisers once...
The thing with developers releasing games before they are ready is a whole other point, and has nothing to do with piracy and ist simply used as scapegoat for the rats.
If you want to change the industries behaviour:
Do not buy defective games.
Write them a letter/e-mail of how their habbit of releasing yet another broken game made you not buy it.
DON'T BLOODY PIRATE IT. They are tracking those sites and know how often a game got pirated. Its giving the wrong signal to them:
People do not care about the state of the game, they want it anyway and simply do not want to pay up for reasons not related to the buggyness.
Thats what a publisher sees in every torrent for a broken game.
The only tool one realy has is boycotting the game entirely, incidently its also the most powerfull one.
THEY need YOUR money more then YOU need THEIR games.
Always remember that.
u have got dumber havn't u when was the last time u played online it doesn't take 30 mins if u got a good host and wtf with the constant freezes the freezes are caused by lag proberly your own
and ofc they have a fucking idea how to fix it they fucking wrote the code for it u iddiot
i have to agree on most sides with this dude they do actually monitor how many copies have been torrent and download illegaly
they do need your money or they wont make any new games they the same people will bitch that they anit got any new games
FUUUUCK YOOUOUU CLOOWWN!
Sorry, I had to.
I don't know if you're a blizzard fanboy or not, but you're mistaken if you think blizzard doesn't release games without bugs. The first month or 2 of wow was horrendous, with constant downtime, connection errors, p2p patching errors, and many many many more issues. It deffinately wasn't a streamline launch.
It's become the way of multiplayer games these days that it's acceptable for a game to be released while still in what you could call a "late beta." The days where games work 100% out of the package are long gone. The reason for this mainly is because developers can start making money on the project as they continue to develop it, and it's an attitude that is certainly more prevelant in MMORPGs than any other genre of game (mainly due to the monthly fee).
That being said, I don't think stardock released the game knowing it would have a buggy release. Hell alot of the day 0 issues were caused by the fact that gamestop decided to release the game a week before street date. Alot of those issues were fixed within several days after launch. Secondly, they've already acknowledged the connection issues that many people are having with the game and have offered a solution which will be in the beta stages of testing by tomorrow.
Stardock really is a class act. I don't believe it was their intention to release a partially working game. I believe their original intentions were to release a working game and then to make it better over time by adding new content (as they have been known to do). The truth is the game is not in what one would call "beta stage." It is a complete game and for the good portion of people who purchased it, it's working fine. I myself have never had a connection error when attempting to play multiplayer. I've had a few instances where I couldn't connect to peopel or vice versa, but they were easily remedied by joining another game or kicking the player in question. Other than connectivity issues, the game works 95% the way it's supposed to. A beta version is something that you expect to work at around 50% capacity or higher.
the clown is a iddiot who is pissing everyone off if u dont like the game and find it so terible then stop posting here and fuck off we dont need whiny little clown brats wasting time on posts
This game is great, but the multiplayer lobby side of things is ridiculously bad. In this day and age we should NOT be experiencing this type of issue. I mean - multiplayer RTS is not a new concept or anything. At the _very least_ the ability to join games and get them started should be flawless. Then if the game lags ingame or has other issues, so be it - no game is completely immune from them.
Look at other titles - dawn of war 2 being one of the most recent. What issues affect it? Balancing aside - there have been large scale complaints regarding the matchmaking, where low rank people get constantly put up against high rank etc etc. Personally I have also experienced issues such as long matchmaking wait times and say a premade team where one of the team will launch into a completely seperate game from his two teammates. No game is immune from problems - but at least Dawn of War 2 does in fact work properly most of the time.
I spend hours every night trying to play Demigod. Last night i outright just went and did something else. I played one game and mid-way through it two guys just suddenly disconnected at the same time, like they lost connection to each other. This was after waiting for precisely 50 minutes in the lobby beforehand while the comedy of connection issues played out before us. People would either suddenly be not able to connect to the game, or would get stuck in the joining process, or worse, connect with a yellow ping. My friend who was in the game lobby reconnected and then magically couldn't get back in. Frustrating? Yes, unbelievably.
However, I still persist with this game because 1. I enjoy the actual game(IF i can get into one) immensley, and 2. I highly respect the level of communication they have been delivering while they try and fix it. For that reason, and that reason alone, if you are reading this forum and interested in the game, these guys deserve your money.
I am confident they will get on top of these issues - with that much communication and dedication, how could they not? They're not just going to up and walk away and pretend they're not there, they cant. They have committed themselves now by way of constant communication to fixing these problems until they are at a highly acceptable state.
If the game itself was crap I would have shelved this and asked for a refund a long time ago. I effectively dont know of anyone whose actually played it and not enjoyed it. At the same time though, i dont really know of anyone(particularly all us aussies) who isnt frustrated beyond belief with the nightly crap involved in trying to play it. It will get fixed, and it will be worth it.
.
Forever shall ye dance the hornpipe in Hades with a glowing hot spike up ye jacksie should ye fail to cross Frogboy's palm with silver. A gold doubloon is not worth the devil's mirth and it is a bargain cheaply bought to avoid his endless jolly rogering.
hes not gonna dance in me, sorry
i got dow2 but the multi sucks it takes me longer to get into a ranked game on there then it does to get into and start a game on dg
and dow2 has relic (big company) windows (big company) stream (medium company) and nvidia ( big company)
dg has gpg (medium ) and stardock ( medium) and amd ( medium)
hmm and i am missing out quiet a few off dow2 other sponsors and surrporters
dow2 has huge backing and the only reason there were less problems is because they have more exprience and they had a open multiplayer beta so u can't compare dg to dow2 because tey have a huge difference in backing and money when the first dow started it had the same amount as backers as dg has now and relic hasn't as big
Completely disagree with this, DoW2's matchmaking is on average minutes at most. DG has litterally taken hours to get a game working on some nights.
lol depends on what time u go on

As much as Frogboy's approach to business is fresh and welcome .. I'm not paying for that. I want a functioning game. Nobody should feel obligated to buy the game just because it is DRM free and the devs are "good guys".
NPD numbers for last week showed the game was 3rd only after Sims and Lich King and that wasn't counting online sales. They're doing fine. Surprisingly fine.

So we don't have to cry for them or how much the game is pirated either. Also considering those numbers, and other factors - I'm quite confident the launch would be little different had nobody pirated the game- in terms of all the technical issues - despite certain claims.
People need to stop this anti-piracy nonsense. Piracy is not the enemy. From the time I was 8 years old until I was twenty something I was pirating video games on the commodore 64, then amiga, then pc's and macs. I bought a few in that span, but not many. As soon as I was working and had disposable income I began spending that income on video games. I still pirate most games before buying these days. I buy probably on average two games a month and have spent thousands of dollars on video games over the past ten years or so. I also talk my friends into buying the same games I have.
It doesn't take a lot of added value to convince piraters to buy - if they can afford the game. Hassle free updates, access to robust online community, additional content releases, etc are all quite compelling - sweetening that pot is the way to go - Not villainizing, insulting and alienating them.
Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the Blizzard "done when it's done" from the very beginning when they were a small company?
I just cant take doubledigit's hardass approach seriously with him being a 40 year old dude in clown garb.
Good post actually, particularly this line:
