Hey,
I'm interested in possibly getting Demigod (after trying the forthcoming demo, of course), but I have to admit I'm offended by the Queen of Thorns as pictured on this website. IMO, she is far beyond the "partial" nudity the game is rated for. That's like saying you only ate "part" of a pie, when all that's left is one tiny crumb.
Anyhow, I'd like to know: how much of this game can be played (both SP and MP) without having to see the Queen of Thorns?
Sory but this post is epic fail
It's like saying Little Mermaid from Disney is offending and pornographic.
Oh, I'm aware of why they did it. The whole ESRB system is bullshit that does nothing but censor artists from making their vision. Johnny has an amazing concept but it involves tits. Well too bad, we want to sell copys so that won't fly. Looks like you're idea is getting gutted.
Same goes for movies, same goes for anything artistic. Go watch "This Film Is Not Yet Rated" to get the idea =P
To the OP: you better not get the game, really. If you do, you won't be able to restrain yourself from using the cheat code that causes Regulus to strip naked and have his way with the Queen of Thorns in various positions. Ouch, those thorns are sharp!
I'm glad to read some here answered the OP question without trying to attack his/hers convictions. As other noted the Queen of Thorns herself is the smallest unit in the game as it's her plant-moblie you notice zoomed-out especially when there are so many units packed in a small area.
i honestly would have thought the strongly pagan/polytheistic premise of the game would be more offensive to certain Christian sensibilities than some cartoony partial nudity.
maybe its [the offense] not religiously motivated at all. none of us can read minds.
it doesn't particularly matter in any case, its none of our business to go and criticize BCXtreme's values since he's certainly not trying to impose anything on the rest of us. its a totally private and personal thing so he/she can do whatever he/she wants and ought not to be hassled about it.
whatever the motivation, as other posters have pointed out, its just a bit of art on the packaging. you'd have to really go out of your way to be confronted with full frontal partial-nudity in game. at most levels of play she looks like nothing more than a flower and some beetles. everything is cartoonish as well, nothing in here is sexually explicit.
This is a joke right? It's the classic 'I'm offended by a little pixel based boobie but am way okay with killing imaginary pixel based life forms' joke. Pretty funny to think that someone would actually be offended by what amounts to a cartoon. Like Betty Boop, Blondie, Wonder Woman - now Wonder Woman, especially from the TV show in the 80's - that was way way offensive on account of the short shorts. Which reminds me of those other offensive shows 'Dukes of Hazzards' - with the girl with the Daisy Duke shorts and then well heck there's that whole Baywatch thing with actual girls running around in bikinis if you can imagine. Anyways, nice joke.
OK, let's see if I can please get some of you people OFF MY BACK.
First of all, I'm entitled to my opinion. I know full well how much sensual content is in the world. Just because a sensual magazine cover exists, doesn't mean it needs to come into my house. And BTW, I have never seen a bathing suit on a public American beach that reveals as much as the Queen of Thorns's promo art. Like it or not, the QoT is wearing miniature nipple shields, a barely-visible metal plate over her private area, and that's all. Her breasts aren't even PARTIALLY covered, just the actual nipples. And the breasts aren't even the most offensive. It's just the overall exposure, which is FAR FAR more than the "Little Mermaid."
I want to play an entertaining, well-made fantasy game. I don't want to pay $40 just to watch the QoT's breasts bouncing around. Just the fact that you're all so defensive of the QoT proves to me that you feel an attraction to the minor sexual element of the game. One of you pretty much said he would advocate full nudity in every area of life! A similar uproar arose when someone suggested removing the "mild language" (ESRB term) from the Marza dialogue in Sins of a Solar Empire.
Well I for one don't feel the need to be entertained by such things, although you obviously do.
Many of you have confirmed that the actual in-game QoT is not as prominent as the artwork would suggest, and thank you for that. I'll be trying the demo, and seeing what it's all about. If you all want to rant and rave and debate about sexuality in video games, go right ahead, but please leave my personal taste in entertainment out of it.
Finally, a gracious THANK YOU to the FEW of you who stood up for my right to have an opinion.
naw, I stand up for the fact that you have the right to an opinion...and my opinion is that your value system is screwed up =D
i just read this a lol'ed ... quality reply! as for some others also....
offended?!? wow ... but im not you so i dont know... personally i couldnt care less...shes made out of polygons
Of course the OP is entitled to his own morals and values. That's why ESRB ratings exist, so that people can apply their morals and values to the things depicted in a video game. Where you get into trouble is coming to the web site for a game that is rated T for partial nudity, seeing the partial nudity on that very same web site, and then asking if there's really partial nudity in the game, because that offends you, but you still want to play the game. If partial nudity offends you, don't play a game that's rated T for partial nudity. You don't have to come here and tell everyone that you don't think it's really partial nudity--we don't care, because we have the game, and we have no problem looking at a faerie that isn't even human, with genitalia that aren't exposed, and is involved in no sexual situations whatsoever.
If partial nudity offends you, but you are still compelled to play the game and be offended, that is not our problem, nor is it Stardock's problem, nor is it the ESRB's problem.
Dont wanting to see "nudity" but it's ok to see gore... our worlds are so appart
I wasn't coming down on the OPs opinions. I don't really care what he/she worships or why he/she thinks the way he does. Live your life but don't screw with others.
Censorship I believe is part of messing with someone elses shit because you get all bent out of shape at a vagina. Want to protect your children or don't want to look at something with huge tits or watch a movie/show with swearing then dont. Don't mess with the artists shit. This game shouldnt have to carry a T rating or an M rating or any damn rating. The box should say "theres tits and blood" read that and make your own choice. Putting an artificial rating on a game does nothing but help to destroy it.
It's like a NC-17 movie. The NC-17 rating means no major chain will show it just based solely on that. Whether or not theres anything at all bad about the movie. It can be rated that for any arbitrary reason and it'll cripple its sales. Now if there was no rating but something more like "nudity, gay sex, drug use" someone can say I dont want timmy seeing that! Theaters can still show it but timmy and mommy don't go. No one cares, no one misses them but a movie that might be AMAZING is now exposed to the masses.
Same thing with video games or music. It puts up artificial walls for no god damn reason. Tell people something offensive might exist in it, you've been forwarned. But places will still carry/show your art because there's not some retarded stigma associated with a letter.
If the OP doesn't like boobs thats fine. I honestly couldn't care. But the box lets you know whats up, the forums let you know whats up make the choice for yourself.
Read the backstory to the QoT and you'll understand why she's like that.
If it helps your sensitive little mind she is part of the forces of darkness and is not supposed to be depicted as a nice faerie, her whole image is to do with seduction and beauty and hence control over others.
ROFL.
This reminds me of a Christian Call of Duty 4 server located near me where swearing is strictly taboo and politeness is expected at all times.
Shooting round after round of hot lead into your enemy's faces and obliterating them with grenades, however, is perfectly acceptable.
Mass Genocide = OK
Boobies = Harmful
Serious question.
What could possibly make you not want to see a partially clothed woman but at the same time have no issue at the thought that these on screen avatars are trying to kill each other?
This world is fucked.
I am not saying I agree with him/her, but hay its his/her beliefs and who are we to make him/her explain themselves. The request was simple him/her recieved an acceptable response (QoT is not seen well unless super zoomed in). Why are we still hashing this out. It seems we are overly bored and looking for some action lol. Just my 2 cents. Be respectful to his/her beliefs.. Now on a personal note yes I am overly amuzed by this whole thread and is why i have been reading it lol.
Well being ok with senseless violence but perish the thought of a few boobies has been the hallmark trait of a lot of religions for thousands of years now (see Crusades, inquisition etc. etc.) Blood, gore, pain == ok. Boobies == mortal sin.
Moral relativism is crap.
People are entitled to their beliefs, but I don't have to respect them.
This, this and so much more. I agree with everything said above. I'm glad I read through the tread as I was going to write the same thing.
In-game (zoomed):
And I see nothing there that I haven't already experianced 1st hand (well, except wierd plant stuff..I'm not into that), viewed in the sex-ed books that was learned way back in the 6th grade (minus the images of genital warts and gonorrhea), or have seen on cable television, magazines, and newspapers.
Sorry but i really cant understand this Post.
You complain about her half-naked Breasts, but slaying her Enemys by impaling them on Gigantic Thornes is ok? Sorry but i think thats a real strange kind of Morale .
BTW.: Rook and beast are nearly naked too, so if QoT get a Bra, give Them a Pair of trousers as well
Um, not all people are fixated by breasts. But you seem to be. Don't blame others for your own fixation. Personally, i have not even noticed that she shows more skin in that area than other games. If you are so offended by this, then obviously you tend to look in that area of a female more than others. Just don't look or fixate on that when playing the game, but instead concentrate on the action taking place in the battlefileld. There are so much going on that you really don't have the time to stare at the boobs on female characters. Besides, you can't find many fantasy games that contain female characters that don't reveal more skin than to your liking.
But honestly, i can't really se what all the fuss is about. It's a game, QoT is just a bunch of 0's and 1's rendered on a screen. It's nothing more than what you make it to be. If you see a sex object revealing to much, then it all is in your head. If players defend QoT, then they dont have to be sexmaniacs, just players that really don't notice or care. Sure, there ARE people that get turned on on things like this, but they are extreemly rare.
So do yourself a favor, don't focus on the breasts, and you wont even notice they are there.
well from an artists point of view, the human body is one of the most beautiful things to observe and recreate on paper. one could argue that this is perverted, but i simply do not.
what is it about the body that is so offensive to you?
oh yes! and the nipple thing for woman, y is it the only part of the breast that is covered... weve alrdy seen 98% of the breast...
actually ... those images posted above r pretty cool
OP:Really man? Offended? Where the heck are you from?
If that offends you, just put on a blind fold and avoid life as well since 90% of media has that in it (not that I hate it )
