I think everyone in this community needs a reminder that the game right now is only as we have it now. There are lots of fan-bots running around telling everyone that future patches will fix everything, all current evidence to the contrary.
If indeed a patch DOES come out & fix probs/add content etc that would be great. However, don't bet on it until its here. There is simply absolutely no guarantee whatsoever that any prospective patch will turn this into the game we all dreamed it would be. Maybe it will get built, maybe it won't. I have personally lingered before in games where the community kept insisting "stay! stay! a patch will come that will make things better" too long before (most recently, AoC). Don't assume anything until it actually happens though or you may find you simply wasted a bunch of time and energy defending a product/company that never got around to delivering the goods. Right now this game is a broken product and it remains that way until it gets fixed. It might never.
Usually I give games a couple weeks - but here? Hard to see the point in playing unless it does get fixed. That said, I am not gonna hold my breath this time. Right now, this game is simply tremendous potential that remains frustratingly unlocked.
......It did get fixed. Its not perfect but its very playable now. And if you see such tremendous potential then don't you think its worth the wait? At least checking in every few days to see if they fixed it (which IMO they have)
Sorry, Stardock is taking a break after releasing a broken game. Please wait 6-12 months before anything will be fixed! (/kidding)
Seriously though, a patch will be out this week. I'm still kind of miffed I bought a pretty broken game but they've dealt with a lot of BS with the launch. The game is fun when it works correctly. :I
Given the improvements from Day -1 to Day 6, I'd say they've been doing pretty well.
Especially since Stardock *always* patches and fixes their games. Heck, they're still putting out updates with new content (for FREE) for Galactic Civ 2 and that game is years old.
You guys will learn that Stardock is different.
Or they'll go back to DotA, or curl up in a corner and cry - any way you look at it, we all win!
(Seriously - is exercising patience a lost social skill?)
wow, what a productive thread. thanks.....
but really, before you preach about stuff you don't know
there were huge steps first days. and now they say the next patch should really make online connections easier. why wouldn't you believe them? they had a rough start cause beta couldn't help see foreign connections much or the load, and then problems came and they addressed them. they also try and keep the community in touch
so really, do wait for the next patch
He was referring to content patches as well.
Who says we'll get more skills added to demigods or anything, or improved functionality for some of the current skills? Or some of the worser items reworked? Only thing we've been gauranteed is 2 new Demigods.
Theres lots of ames where you hope for future support, or it's even promised, and you don't get it. But it's not like I returned my copy or anything.
I'll go off based experience/facts. They patched their other games very well for over a year - why not Demigod.
Nothing but good things to say about stardock. They stand behind their product and they have taken a LOT of my cashola over the years. I fully expect them to get this fixed in short order. Given my past experience with this company, I think they've more than earned a bit of leeway, especially given the situation with gamestop and all.
I cannot but agree with the previous poster.
/signed. I have nothing but good experiences with this publisher so far. One of the few I might add.
Yeah dude if you read the forums before you cry, you can see what their plans are. They have figured out the issue and the solution. Go to www.gameranger.com I have been playing all day with no problems.
You want some ice cream? Will that make you feel better? No? You wanna soda? No? Well, I tried.
All I am saying if it was as simple as simply patching the game, they would have done it BEFORE they released with so many problems. Now they face an uphill battle because they got crappy reviews, rightly deserved, which will no doubt turn off many potential buyers, even further reducing the incentive of putting lots of effort into quality post-release patches.
If more companies would take Blizzard's approach of "not releasing a game before it is done" this would be a non-issue. Nor am I referring simply to online connectivity for those who claim that all problems have already been fixed. This game has major balance issues/ai in pantheon/exploits/lack of single-player content/online issues/etc.
If these guys are as good as everyone claimed, why were things not ready to go from the beginning? Is this just how the industry is these days - we should be happy to buy a game & put it on the shelf for three months before we should actually expect a "full game experience"??? What are you all going to say if this game has nothing new in 3 months?
Yep, just like common sense obviously, with all the "no tutorial" rants.
Stardock NEVER abandons games. We still support online games for The Corporate Machine and that was 8 years ago.
We still do free updates to Galactic Civilizations II.
We don't look at our games as a product alone. We look at them as a service.
There will be new updates to Demigod not just this week but probably next week and probably the week after that and the month after that and the month after that and so on.
Our first goal, of course, is to make it so that people with internet connections we weren't familiar with can connect to each other and of course connect to other players. That is what our goal is for this week - make sure people can connect fine.
Once we do that, we can start to talk about things peopel would like to see. New items, balance changes, new features, and so on.
I just want to be able to join Pantheon games/multiplayer games more than once every 10 tries.
As someone who's been with Stardock since The Corporate Machine and owns almost all the game titles, I can attest to these words. I mean, hear's Frogboy, CEO of the company, telling us these things, answering your questions. I don't know any other CEO of a game publisher/maker that interacts with the community on this scale.
And if in doubt, you need to see what they added with Gal Civ II's second expansion, when they added UNIQUE tech trees for EACH race.
Stardock is VERY responsive to the community, they listen and implement changes in a timely manner.

No issues here. Game works fine and is a ton of fun.
I've been really content and impressed with how Stardock has dealt with their games old and new. I believe DG will get at least as much attention as their other games did, they're just more focused on fixes right now than on add-ons... Which makes a lot of sense.
Listen to Frogboy, stardock have never abandoned a game yet I don't expect them to start now, I have total faith because they have earned my trust over the years.
I've been keeping amused with single player anyway. Want to make sure I have mastered all the basics before going online since I wasn't in the beta.
I think all these topics need some cheese wth their whine.
