Well, it looks like Demigod turned out to be a so-so game.
Bad launch... Broken multiplayer, broken bots in singleplayer, no campaing, bad reviews, etc. etc.
I can think of SO MANY THINGS I would add into the gameplay right now. For some reason I think Stardock is just lazy. Having all these issues and bad AI, I just question myself: what are you guys doing in there? Personaly I would be happy to spend my whole day working to improve demigod. And I would do it completely for free! There are 8 working hours each day, yet nothing much seems to happen. The patches seem pretty basic without anything new. Gameplay misses a lot of features. When was the last time something MAJOR was added into the game since Beta 3? Right...
I fear (belive me, I realy do) that Demigod will be thrown back and forgotten.
Most of the Demigod players have played DotA (at least a half did, like me) and I think they just like Demigod, because it brings something fresh to the table, because they got a bit bored of DotA. But now as everyone has played a bit, saw what the game offers, I think many of the DotA players will go back. Too many features are missing (FFS why isn't there an option to always show your hp/mana in numbers? It helps SO much when you don't have enough mana to cast a spell).
As you've seen, Demigod progresses VERY slowly, and we can expect an extra map in about half a year...
Some bugs and bad things have remained since the Beta.
So, is this the end of Demigod?
How long will it take Stardock to at least fix all the bugs? A month?
P.S. And NO! I'm not a DotA fanatic. Unlike fanboys, I prefer to stand on both sides. I would be realy happy to play both Demigod and Dota, or even just Demigod, but...
I think the 8 maps is fine. There is good variaty..
I also agree that 8 maps right now is fine.
well he almost got it right with the Y2K thing and I think demigod failing is in the same ballpark of probability so give him so credit I mean its not like demigod failing is the eighth sign of the apocalypse, *flips through pages and mutters* nvm it is, just checked it again, I swear the eighth sign was the corporate owners of Blizzard developing a compassionate soul...
sadly I give it 2 years at most, maybe some free DLC down the road will keep interest in it (ala TF2).
Well there is no arguing that a MP game with a launch where most are having problems withthe MP is not good - GPG have acknowledged it will hurt their sales quite a bit. But at the same time these issues will be resolved in the next week or two and we have a fantastic game from the start... this is before more demigods, levels and enhancements. Truth of the matter is that word of mouth helps a LOT and competitve gaming leagues are already taking it up for the pro players. Note that there is no other game like this one of course except the WC3 mod that inspired the game.
People are tired of the same old RTS games - this is a new genre game which is beautiful to look at and amazingly fun to play. I imagine it having a decent following as soon as retail boxes hit the stores globally (Uk launch is still in May for example) and then word of mouth should keep it going for years. There is simply nothing else like it except the original WC3 mod and believe it or not, many of us have no interest in playing 'that' when we can play this.
Therefore once MP is fixed and GPG continues to support well (which they always do), this game will stay alive for a long time and grow stronger. If this was a pure RTS, yes it would be in trouble as there is a lot of competition there. But with this type of game if you like this, you will play this, end of story.
For those saying the launch will kill the game...
Has anyone been there for a World of Warcraft expansion launch or patch? Its always a complete disaster for the first week or sometimes even longer. Then they fix it and people forget. 12 million subscribers say that people are willing to forgive a few mistakes as long as they are corrected.
Someone posted that I don't know shit about games and how they are made etc. etc. The thing is that I DO. I know enough programming languages to understand how things work. And believe me, making balance tweaks is by far the EASIEST job a programmer could have. Don't know about bug fixes though. Depends on what kind of bugs we are experiencing. As someone posted before there shouldn't have been any in the first place.
This shows your lack of programming experience, along with the fact you used 8 hours to quantify a day of work in the software development industry. Seriously, debugging code can be one of the hardest parts of programming on a project of any significant size, depending on the architecture and tools available.
So the Net Infrastructure code has problems, but at least Stardock and GPG are being transparent, taking ownership of the issues and communicating with the community on their current progress to fixing the problems. At least they have explained how these problems were not found prior to release and they are not trying to blame the Pirates for the multiplayer connection problems. This is more than most game developers have done in the recent years.
Debugging when the problem source isn't in your code can be extremely difficult. Finding a solution even more so.
I got my fair share of bitterness on the games release but over all i happy to see there are trying to fix the issues at hand. My biggest issues right now are the favour point bug and they are working on that. And i hope they have a different realms maybe. I played a lot of games and some seems to lag really badly. Then when asking players where there where from we found players from Asian Russia half way across the world. The lag was bad that everyone was getting abouta 1 seconds delay once those players left the lag seems to be fine and the game ran great. I am aware the players are really limted on the game playerright now. But unlike a custom games if you do the tourni you don;t see the players pings or have chance to find out where they are from. I am just looking for your guys thoughts. Now i am programmed myself and I also play a lot of dota and to all those people who are flaming. I agree it sucks paying for a game when it has so many issues when it gets released but have you ever tried to code something ? It's not as easy as you think and yes i am aware its part of there job but there are doing there best and you guys yelling and screeming or crying is not helping. I myself love the game its has a dota feel to it which i like. My biggest issues as i said right now is lag with players and the favour issues i am sure they will work these out. It just a mater of time and I hope to see some new heros that would be nice as well. All good things take time and if you really care about your time and money as half of you like to point out please don't buy games and expect them to work opening day. And for all you talking about blizzard I love blizzard they do great work. And i also beta test all 3 wow games they on the release dates they all had server issues without fail. But they got them fixed there is no such thing as perfect. This game is like the release of hellgate lots of issues but I don't want to see it die because people what it out there and want quick fixing. Let the company do there job and fix the issue and be supportive.
