Well, it looks like Demigod turned out to be a so-so game.
Bad launch... Broken multiplayer, broken bots in singleplayer, no campaing, bad reviews, etc. etc.
I can think of SO MANY THINGS I would add into the gameplay right now. For some reason I think Stardock is just lazy. Having all these issues and bad AI, I just question myself: what are you guys doing in there? Personaly I would be happy to spend my whole day working to improve demigod. And I would do it completely for free! There are 8 working hours each day, yet nothing much seems to happen. The patches seem pretty basic without anything new. Gameplay misses a lot of features. When was the last time something MAJOR was added into the game since Beta 3? Right...
I fear (belive me, I realy do) that Demigod will be thrown back and forgotten.
Most of the Demigod players have played DotA (at least a half did, like me) and I think they just like Demigod, because it brings something fresh to the table, because they got a bit bored of DotA. But now as everyone has played a bit, saw what the game offers, I think many of the DotA players will go back. Too many features are missing (FFS why isn't there an option to always show your hp/mana in numbers? It helps SO much when you don't have enough mana to cast a spell).
As you've seen, Demigod progresses VERY slowly, and we can expect an extra map in about half a year...
Some bugs and bad things have remained since the Beta.
So, is this the end of Demigod?
How long will it take Stardock to at least fix all the bugs? A month?
P.S. And NO! I'm not a DotA fanatic. Unlike fanboys, I prefer to stand on both sides. I would be realy happy to play both Demigod and Dota, or even just Demigod, but...
I love DoTA, and i stopped playing to check this out. I will be returning very soon to dota. I wasted many hours this week trying to play this time eating fat chick of a game.
No it will not die because the first week sucked
Uh.. The files for the 9th demigod were included with the day 0 update, and you say it progresses slow.
Demigod wont die, it will grow a lot now that the connection issues starts clearing up, once they are done we will start seeing features such as arranged team et.c, when all the basic stuff work.
There have been only 4 days since launch. Come ooooooon, give them a break.
The Online mode is fixed now and the Connection Info Tab is really useful. There are minor problems but most of the Online mode is functional and quite enjoyable. We already KNEW that there wasn't any Campaign mode (although i'd like to see one and especially a Tutorial mode for the new comers).
As for the reviews... blaiming the network problems is hilarious. Most of those reviewers were in a hurry to publish their review (you know the magic word we call deadline? Most of the sites are trying to be the first that have the review available.). Cause if they weren't, they could have waited a week to review it or they could contact Stardock for further clarifications (in their mail they could state that they were writing their review at that time).
That would be because you are a child with a massive entitlement complex. If you can't discuss issues with a serious and adult attitude, you can go back to playing with your lego sets and let the grownups talk. Stardock has been killing themselves working on all the bullshit issues since lauch, were working for YOUR noncontributing zero-worth ass on EASTER, and you decide to spout this kind of crap. go away.
At the moment the game is horrible. I have spent 3 hours trying to get into a game and 4 hours playing, how's that for terrible launch?
Well you can't expect game company to do things as fast as individual modder. New Demigod need artwork, need 3d modeling, need voice over, need animation, need textures, need skills set and much more. If you have tried doing 3D modeling or those thing before you'll know that it take a lots of time, not to mention they have to get approval from the art director and such. It's not just drag and drop the existing model and doing simple scripting to add new skills like Dota. I understand that it will take more time than Dota development for sure. But as from the customers point of view, we only compare on the surface not technical issues, therefore this will make Demigod comparatively worse than dota in the speed of progressing. But in term of Art quality and skills design, it's extremely surpass Dota. It's just, Demigod is more on quality not quantity.
There's no arguing that Demigod's launch is going to hurt it's reputation. If it had of launched smoothly, and the resulting review scores had of been higher, Demigod would have skyrocketed up the list of Most Played Online Games or at the very least the list of Most Wanted Games. The gameplay is simply fantastic and well crafted.
However, as long as GPG and Stardock can remove the multiplayer issues, there is no permanent damage done to it's online community. Once the game functions as promised word of mouth will spread and Demigod will become a Must Have title as it rightly deserves.
I'm as annoyed as anyone with the multiplayer issues - so far the only Multiplayer games I've been able to get running are through Hamachi, and I had to deal with a lot of pirates before I actually got one working. This is not what I expected when I bought the game. However, considering the response we've already seen from GPG in terms of support, I think it's safe to say this will be working properly soon.
Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they release the first batch of DLC free as a way to say sorry for such a bad launch.
We're not dealing with Blizzard Entertainment or EA Games here - Stardock and GPG are actually doing something - not holding a meeting at their solid gold board room tables drinking the tears of their customers in crystal glasses while discussing the possibility of perhaps holding a meeting to discuss how best to arrange a meeting to address the problem of holding a conference to solve some of the issues currently being raised by their customers.
there are games with worse launches look at darkfall people were waiting weeks to buy the game least stardock got the payments done quickly and no errors about it being rejected which darkfall also had. performence wise age of conan had it worse but was still a good game look at it now it runs smoth and people are comming back to it. give demigod a month or 2 and u will see the game go leaps and bounds
>Stardock has been killing themselves working on all the bullshit issues since lauch, were working for YOUR noncontributing zero-worth ass on EASTER, and you decide to spout this kind of crap.
Sorry Mr. adult, but for an adult you sound way too like a Stardock fanboy. Jumping to talking shit about others right away huh?
Well, I won't say anything bad about you.
>Stardock has been killing themselves working on all the bullshit issues since lauch
Oh, yeah. That is TOTALY my fault as a customer. Customer is NEVER right!
>There have been only 4 days since launch. Come ooooooon, give them a break.
IT'S BEEN HALF A YEAR SINCE BETA.
And about my "lazyness" stuff: sorry, but the Demigod Ideas section needs to be removed from the forums. So many UNBELIEVABLY good ideas in there, yet the % of them beeing implemented in the game is either 0.00% or 0.01% (I have seen none so far).
And to those saying "Connectivity is better, they are fixing everything!", please note that the servers are down right now...
It's unfortunate that so many dota tards are flocking here because they're getting drool all over the place.
I mean seriously.. are you daft? The game broke because of the broken street state. That's not to say stardock didn't have a role to play in that but shit.. how much do you want from them?
Do you have any clue about software development? I'm guessing no because you're charging around here like a bull elephant in musth... but it takes time. They're not adding features, as they alreeady stated, because they're busing making sure everyone can connect fine, first.
Go back to dota. Please.
All of the sudden having no campaign because reviewers say so starts to matter. No one had complains about the game not having single player before, it was said that it would be a multiplayer based game and that you could only play skirmish or tournament with bots as single players. All of the sudden that one particular review that said there is no multiplayer drew a few particular people to this forum saying "O no multiplayer no good"
In all fairness the showing of # values for hp/mana is something I noticed pretty quick off the bat as well. Most games released these days feel like nobody actually play tested the game and said okay listen up, you can make the game better by doing this, this and this... and 1-2 days later the game is way better. In fact the only games I feel come out the starting gate in excellent shape are blizzard games. Unfortunately blizzard doesnt have anything I'm interested in atm until D3 comes out in 2020.
As mentioned above, fixing bugs will take higher priority than adding new features.
BTW if you had seen the hours some of the Stardock staff did this week (including all nighters), you would not be saying they were lazy.
Every game, no matter how it does, someone will say "this game will die!" in the first days.
Thank you for filling that hole.
I'm sorry, but I can't feel sympathetic for them. It's their JOB. I would if the case was that they were adding or doing something extra to the game, but they're just fixing something that shouldn't be broken in the first place. I really don't mean to sound like an asshole, but I genuinely feel like I was ripped off. As much as I'd like to think they were going beyond the call of duty, they're not.
It's like this. A drunk driver hits a child, but gets him to the hospital quickly which ultimately saves the boy's life. The drunk driver is still guilty of driving drunk and isn't given a commendation for saving the boy's life.
Neil , I agree . right now Im playing matcjh very often without any connection issues . Its great it got bad review but In general imo Its better then the DOTA the imbalanced game.Yes i did play DOTA it waas good i admit but not as great as people made me hyped for.
2 bad that the main reason they spent the house last week was due to the game being sold early and prirates lagging the severs so that wasnt their fault and yes it is their job but its also playable sever problems can be caused from anything just like a computer can just die so can a sever only diffrence is that they are alot bigger and more anoying to problemsolv
So true.
This is probably the most fun I've had with a game that has gotten such poor reviews. The reason why I bought it was because I liked DoTA back in the day. (Although I was never hardcore into it. I think the last version I played there was less than 20 heroes, and now I've been hearing it's up to 80+ ). Plus the only major flaw of the game I've been hearing is the launch/connection totally stinks. Sure the crappy launch sucks, but even in it's broken state I'm having fun learning the characters in singleplayer. With the speed they have been responding I'm sure the mulitplayer will be find in the coming week. As far as the core gameplay, it rocks. Reviews have even said if the launch would have been better the score would have been much higher.
If it makes you feel better, pretend when you bought your game recentely, you actually "pre-ordered" it and right now you are still playing the beta The real game shoudl be out in a week or two I mean really, the only other option would have been to delay the release a month or so. At least now I get to play it in some form or another. As long as the "fix" everything in a relatively short period of time, I don't mind "pre-ordering" and playing the "beta" now.
I think this kind of additude, while understandable, is unfair. If they shipped the game like this and then did nothing about it, and planned to do nothing about it in the future, then yes you should feel ripped off. But in this case, they've acknowledged the major screw up and promise to fix it, and have already started to. Sure we didn't get what we were promised at release, but we are going to get it eventually. We will get what we payed for. I mean if they caught this mistake before release and decided to push back release a week to fix it, whould you still feel ripped off?
All games "die". It's just a question of how long it takes and how much fun you have in the meantime.
Me? I'm having a blast.
I'm enjoying this game, and don't think it will die... personally, I'd be fine with the dota people going back to dota... don't want to generalise too much, but a lot of people in that community aren't really the kind of people you want to play any game with... i mean 80% of them think they're pro and ragequit when they get schooled by someone who is actually skilled
I do hope the intelligent ones stick around and continue to contribute to the community of this game in a positive way... I mean really, its not dota guys
Well, that's something else you've failed at.
Yeah totally ^^ i see that in every forum of game that i flame and i always know that it is not true.
(well Hellgate died....but omfg they deserved it!)
But...i might agree that this game will not be a big eport titel.
The history of video games proves otherwise. This game might not die, but it'll most likely never be very successful and will never have a large pool of players.
The first week, event he first day, is the most important period of time in a game's life, particularly if it's an online game. Miss it, and the game will at best have mild success, and at worst will be deserted in a matter of weeks.
