I see reports of "bad connectivity". But please understand, when we play the game with people online it works perfectly so we need to try to understand specifically what you're seeing.
So when you say "I can't get into a multiplayer custom game" for instance, what specifically do you mean?
Can you bring up the connectivity dialog? What does it say?
That kind of thing. The more you tell us, the quicker we can resolve it.
See http://forums.demigodthegame.com/347467 for where we're at.
Thanks!
No need for me to forward ports, I have turned Vista and Router firewall off. There is still usually always one person I can't connect to in a game. If these people are the host of the game it boots me out and tells me "NAT has failed".
Router is BT Home Hub 2.
My custom games list is empty. If I try and host one myself, I get the NAT facilitator error. If I try to join a pantheon game, it looks for players indefinately.
My ports are forwarded, I have no firewalls or AV running, and online multiplayer worked flawlessly for me two weeks ago.
I had two 3v3s tonight May 18 after the update. Both matches indicated I was the cause of horendous lag spikes early game. But when a player on my team left they cleared up. Is it a coincidence that I couldnt communicate with their router or is there something odd with the 3v3 as opposed to 3v2?
thats my problem right now my connectivity goes to crap in 3v3s now, worked fine before the 84 patch.
Anyway, with the latest patch, I'm still unable to connect online (just tried to join custom, but no dice). I guess I'll wait and see how the planned proxy servers work out for me.
I might have downloaded a beta version, so i'm not sure.Downloaded a new update today or yesterday, have gotten all updates previous. In skirmish games. it will freeze at the connecting to players etc screen for 30s-1 min.. If it gets past that, it will bring up the connection info, which takes about 30s to update, and will either never update or be left at waiting to connect to people.
Also, will not connect to custom game players.
Play in aus. Never had any problems with pre-game connections.
can somebody tell me what these dialogs:
were supposed to say? They poped out during connecting (of course i didn't connect to anyone after clicking "ok")
I got problems yeah
I can connect to games (most of the time) But my ping will be bumping back n forth from 300 up to a 1000
This problem has occured on nomourus occasions.. Sometimes when people leave because of me (sigh) and im left with only 1 other guy, the connection turns back to normal (well still 150ish) And i can continue to play almost lag free.
In any other game i play online my ping tends to go as low as 15(yeah rare.. mostly 30ish) up to a 100 max, so i have NO clue why demigod gets my ping all the way up to a 1000
The empty message dialog was introduced with an recent update for people who arent able to play multiplayer.
I guess its the well known NAT error message or matchmaking-failed text - But empty.
Its no problem on your side.
Hi,
Good Game but.......
Although I can usually play a game now I still get 1 in 5/6 people that can't connect to either me or someone else in the game. I've set my router to forward ports and in the end set it so that when I plug my ethernet cable in it appears as the external IP i.e. no NAT. While having problems I did try and see who I was connected to via netstat but you must be masking the connections from windows as nothing appeared under netstat.
I've found for me to play the most games I will host *custom games" as that way I know that people can at least connect to me, the panathon takes me ages normally to find a set of people to connect to.
Short of doing a wireshark/tcpdump on whats going on I'm not sure your going to get any other good info on the problem as I suspect it could be combination of routers, ISP and the fact that having multiple connections to multiple clients over the internet is not 'stable' (and I suspect that the connecting to clients in US/ASIA/AUS doesn't help).
I've also noticed that LAG can be a real problem in this game as it will glitch and mean you can either not cast/move and end up dead/almost dead from others that have got multiple attacks on you. What I don't get is that sup com has the most robust internet gaming I've seen could you not just use that 'code base' ohhh and allow the option 'join by IP' PLEASSEEEE!! lol
JD
I still have a problem where I cannot connect to 3v3+ games without massively lagging as soon as the game starts up. I have enough Upload speed, and my IP is not blocking torrents, AND I've disabled all other programs on the computer while playing demigod. A few others seem to have this exact same problem.
A failed attempt to connect to a Custom game yesterdat evening (Singapore time)

What i can't understand is that the updates were only made to pantheon and skirmish.Yet i cannot play any games games at all. i've only conneted to one person in a custom game.
If any games do manage to connect. only 3/4 of the people will connect with everyone, 2 people will have no updates to their connection status, and then i just get the bloank OK of death.
Many people with similar responses?
Dude...99% of us are able to connect with no problems at all. I've removed all router-configs that were necessary before, and with huge success I'm joining game upon game upon game. This is NOT the only game that has a small percentage of users not able to connect. Some can't get on Blizzard's Battle.net at all, and Steam screws you up in every way possible if you're not one of the lucky ones...the new proxies will probably help you much.
These guys are doing more work for their community and for the users who are unfortunate enough to not be able to connect to anyone, than I've seen before. If you can't connect to the guy, what are you gonna do? If you pinged him, you probably wouldn't get through to him either. Which is why Stardock are going out of their way, putting up proxy-servers to route the traffic around, so that everyone can play, even if they have a stinky connection or some random problem keeping them from connecting to a particular player.
I feel like we're all contributing here. FROGBOY's journals are a great asset to the community, because it gives us something to discuss, and it keeps us in contact with the producers and coders creating the game. Anything you've written here might come up in the morning-meetings at Stardock, you never know. I find that encouraging, and it stills my lust for rage, chaos and forum-flaming because I feel like I'm part of it. I'd wish people would leave the anger aside if it's a forum they like. It definately makes it easier to take a poster more seriously, if he/she isn't ranting in befouled sentences.
I am curious as to why we are seeing multiple internal NAT addresses being referenced in the logs. You should not see your opponents internal address ever…….
I have managed to play 1 game, where it was 1v3, because someone lost connection. (only had game for a 24hours)
THen tried to find another game, waited for 10 minutes, being told that there were 7 other people waiting for a match.
Is this about right, in waiting time for logging into a pantheon?
Still can't connect, forwarded all ports required. I disabled my router's firewall. I am using a Verizon Westell Versalink 7500. If anyone has this router, could you tell me exactly what you did?
I have never had a problem connecting to any game on my computer. This is pretty frustrating.
"Dude...99% of us are able to connect with no problems at all."
Mhh, dont think so. Right now there is 5 custom matches up in the lobby like pretty often recently.
I remember the day where 40 customs where hosted and visible in the lobby.
Finding a suitable match, please wait...
followed by "the connection service has failed"
also getting the "you have been kicked" message that other people have posted above occasionally.
After about 40-60 minutes it finally started a pantheon game. But it was only 3 players.... 2v1.
So one player left after 2-3 minutes. Right afterwards the game detected a "Desync" to the remaining player.
Appreciate the effort you guys are putting into fixing this game... make sure to kick Gas Powered Games butt a few times as well.
Edit: After 2 hours of i did finally get into a 3v3 pantheon game... pings were fine as well on my end... except one person had a 500-800 ping to everyone and the game was pretty much unplayable with more lag paused than fluid movement. /sigh
Guess i ll check back next week
Not a connection issue for me however some crybaby just left a game (4v4 after coughing up first blood) when he left I got booted as well. You need to fix that, as the host of the game, killing the first person, why should I get dropped?
i can not connect at all... be it by proxy or anything... have mailed support but with no response yet...
before the update 14/5 i was able to connect fine.
every time i try i get the error can not connect to the nat facilitator...
so tired of this and if i am alone in this i might aswell try to get a refund because dont think stardock will help 1 single person having issues when so many is working
That's the people who aren't playing yet. You don't know how many are in a game, while you're waiting for one to start. All those people don't wait very long. I know I don't. It takes me about 1-2 minutes to get connected to 6-8 people and get a Pantheon game going.
I'm seeing 6+ games all the time in custom games, and if I don't see one I can join, I make my own game, answer mother nature's calling, come back, and say hi to the many people who've joined. The usual for me is about 7-12 games available but I've seen a list I had to scroll through.
Give the proxies a chance. If that doesn't work, they'll probably have to go back to 1 player hosting a server, like WC3. Then Pantheon can just pick the one with best average ping and make that guy the server. The whole point of this system with the NAT, the proxies and all, is to cut out the middleman (the server) for everyone, thereby lowering the pings as much as possible for the end-users (by connecting them to every single player in the game, rather than all data going through one bottleneck, the server). It's an elaborate project that'll make all players spit out timing-info to X amount of players instead of just to the server. This'll make everyone use more bandwidth, but in turn get better "mileage" so to speak; lower pings, and everyone is responsible for their own ping to each other player, helped out by Stardocks fast proxies.
It seems that nobody can connect to me in any game type. I've had the game for three days now and I have yet to play an online game. As far as I know, the port is forwarded correctly, I have a static ip, etc. I tried the "/serverproxyonly" fix, to no avail.
For 3 Days i am not able to play Demigod online. I opened the Ports, disable Win-Firewall. But still dont work. Never had Problems with other Games. I want my Money back! Please contact me!
meph777 and robbychaos could either of u connect before the patch 14/5? what router do u guys use? i use a zyxel provided by my isp and i am starting to blame that as no matter how many or little ports forwarded it will not connect.
Yes, before i were able to connect. I use a Fonera. But i am not willing to try at any longer, i now spent hours for that s**t. I just want Money back, i am not longer interessted in playing this Game.
