I see reports of "bad connectivity". But please understand, when we play the game with people online it works perfectly so we need to try to understand specifically what you're seeing.
So when you say "I can't get into a multiplayer custom game" for instance, what specifically do you mean?
Can you bring up the connectivity dialog? What does it say?
That kind of thing. The more you tell us, the quicker we can resolve it.
See http://forums.demigodthegame.com/347467 for where we're at.
Thanks!
@ fidelcastrol,
You may have followed my guide "to the letter" but that doesn't mean something UPSTREAM of your router isn't still blocking traffic.
Please use an external scnanner such as: (Shields-UP)
http://www.grc.com
to VERIFY that in fact the specified ports show as OPEN!
thanks,
the Monk
EDITED: to correct the link!
Thanks for your answer, but unfortunately, your link isn't very helpful, as if I try it on my own connection, it shows that ports aren't open...even though they are. I can host perfectly and join any game.
If by "upstream" you mean an ISP related problem, it's not possible, we have the same one. If you mean the modem, then again, same one.
What I should do is try to make him remove the router for testing purpose, but I'm afraid that won't be possible.
@The Monk: The link you provided goes to a page with a short message saying that it has disabled my browser reload to protect me when I am visiting the more sensitive areas of their site- but there is absolutely no way to navigate from that page to any other on their site. ???
Sorry about that. Here's the MAIN link, then click on "Shields-Up" :

fidelcastrol,
If the scanner is telling you that your ports aren't open.....then they aren't open. Simple as that. They may be "opened" on some NAT-device (router) you have, however UPSTREAM of that router they are still NOT open, which makes you opening them DOWNSTREAM somewhere completely pointless until the UPSTREAM location is dealt with. It's that simple.
No, I disagree. My ports are open.
But where the problem might lie with your site is that it needs to ping the router. Mine is set not to respond to ping request So if for starters it doesn't see the ip adress as being online, well...
The problem with these programs, is that it tells me all my ports are closed, every single one. I can't find a single program that tells me my ports are open. Of course demigod might point to my ports being closed, but I know they are open. The reason for this, is I had to open up ports on my 360 in order to even connect to xbox live and it works. So this proves that my ports did get open, so I change the IP address from my xbox to my PC, and it says the ports are closed.
Unless I am missing something I can't figure out what is going on. I even called my ISP and Belkin support and they confirmed that I opened the ports the right way, so I have no idea why they would still be closed. It also isn't a coencidence that is the only online game I can't connect to.
I can now confirm my ports are open because I let my router accept ping requests and all the programs are now telling me my ports are open.
After last Update i cant even connect to any Custom games, in Connection info there is no players, but i can see games, that peoples creating... whats happend? before this patch it was possible to join and see how im attemting to players, and they are attemting to me, but now - clean Connection info all the time. Wtf?
I have 2 licensed copies of the game running on two computers: One Vista box , one XP box. Problems:
1. LAN Game: Neither box can see the other's LAN game in the LAN game list. However, I can play LAN if I use GameRanger.
2. Internet: Invalid username/password when I try to log in. I've read about merging accounts, but I will wait for a better solution that will keep my accounts separate since I purchased 2 copies of the game. I've not yet tried using GameRanger for Internet play.
Well, 45% of the time I get "Join attempt failed". 45% of the time it says "Attempting to join game" and it sits there, and never connects. Twice I have been able to connect, and both games played through smooth to the end both times. I have never been able to connect to Parthanon or a quick skirmish, it just sits there forever, the text disaprears usually after a while.
I can play DoW2, WoW, CoH, and Surpreme Commander just fine. And I don't know if this helps or not, but this all seems SO simular to Surpreme Commander for me when it first came out; could never join a game most the time, but when I finally did, was able to play all the way through.
Exactly my problem too.
try http://www.portforward.com/help/portcheck.htm
My ports are open, but i still cannot connect to any online game. So it has to be the game. That's a shame.
100% of the time that i fail to connect to someone my game freezes, ctrl alt del doesnt work i have to put my computer to sleep mode then start it back up and alt tab close the "unhandled exeption that pops up", this happens after the end of a game sometimes too.
people are disconnecting at the very beginning of a match
my favor resets to zero when i play two mulitplayer custom games in a row. If i play one multiplayer game (custom) then go into the lobby of single player skirmish, exit , then go back and play a custom game sometimes i have between 90-560 favor points.
Spooky,
True, I should have clarified. However if Shields-Up is reporting "stealthed" ports then the person can safely assume they're unreachable as opposed to if they're simply reporting them as "closed".
Here's what I posted in the tech support forum: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/347640
But effectively, I can't connect to games. Connection Info dialog usually comes up completely empty (I don't even see myself). Very rarely it'll work once, but won't work again after that. I thought it was the router, but I replaced it with a brand new D-Link 825 and the problem was exactly the same. Even being in the DMZ doesn't work, which I find bizzare since I *know* (and have verified) the ports are reachable in that case. Same thing with ports manually forwarded and UPnP disabled.
It's like it's still trying to use the NAT punchthrough when it doesn't have to. Tried all the configrations suggested in the tech support stickies, with various stages of failure but no real success.
LAN games over Hamachi work. Removing the router entirely and direct connecting to the Internet works (but is not an option because I don't live alone, and my wife prefers to have Internet as well).
This is running in Vista 64, using PPPoE based ADSL, in Canada.
Well, here's a VERY sad update: Finaly had two friends over today to show them Demigod. We played two quick games via Lan, but, they said they wanted to see online play (GULP, since that's what they'd need to use to play me and their other friends). So for OVER 2 hours I tried and tried to get even ONE game going, but it was the worst experience ever with DG. I was not able to connect to even ONE game in all that 2+ hours. Lots of times it would say I had the wrong handle/password (evne though it's set to remember it); other times it would ask for a password (when the game had NO password protection required). When I did finally start to connect to several games, the entire game would lock up after about 5 minutes, and I'd have to Ctrl-Alt-Delete and turn off DG from the task manager window (the game itself would toatally lock up/freeze). Finally, I got ONE game going, a quick skirmish (taking 10 minutes of waiting to get started). After the game started I saw that I was the ONLY human in the game, just 3 other AI bots. I minus well have just played a solo scirmish.
After 2 hours of the above, they ask to try DoW2 and it's online MP. I kept praying quietly to myself (don't work either, lock up too). But, sadly, it logged on quickly, connected to a game in seconds, and ran smooth as silk till the end of the game. Seeing it also had game replays and a campain was the final straw for them considering DG. Sighhhhhhhh. Sorry SD/GPG, but you can't blame them, with that side-by-side comparison. . . .
SD, you are aces in the customer service area of games, and also in how you keep doing updates/patches. But I got'a say, after today, I think I'm going to shelve DG for a while, and go back to DoWII; which I know at least works Online, and I'll also know my friends will have it too. This is SO sad. . . . Guess I'll check back in the future to see if things got better.
Custom Game:
Pantheon:
Skirmish:
And I am getting "Invalid Username / Password" SOMETIMES! sometimes it works just finde without me having changed anything!!
So, i bought the game to play online and havent been able to play a single match since than... instead i have gone mad to set up my computer / router etc. and searching for a way to play the game
i have no problems with filesharing or other games like diablo2, battlefield2, dawn of war soulstorm, trackmania nations forever and no problems with supreme commander too!!
so i would suggest it is the problem of demigod. with trackmania i need to open up ports too and that works finde. i suggest its not a problem in port opening, than in the games programming.
my system:
win vista home premium 32bit
router: fritzbox 7170 fs (latest firmware)
i have opened ports 6000-6200 UDP for my PC... no help at all
i am going to test supreme commander online capabilities cause it uses p2p too, i think. i will update my post after i´ve done testing. i added supreme commander to the working list. just played a game without a single problem.
and another problem: i have to double click demigod multiple times in vista game explorer to start the game! i´ve got no problems with all other games and i have a lot of games...
would be nice if you would fix this game soon. is there a patch coming already?
i also :
EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at address 0x77361b22 attempted to read memory at 0x3e726579
bla bla bla..........
sometimes it works. 2x from 10 times
and it´s not possible for me to login to chat: ERROR closing link (name/ip) Ecsess Flood.....
everything works fine before the update 24.4. !!?? ..but now...
Exact same thing happens to me,,, i can play skirmish/pantheon 1v1+AI filled.... if i try to join a custom game i usually connect successfully to 2-3 players,, and there 1-2 where i get connection failed.... (never joined a custom game with success)
I"m also having the "Invalid Password" problem, even though I have it on "Remember password and handle", so it can't be my typing error. My guess (and it's only a guess) is that the backup server stuff they put in place when the new stuff did'nt work is doing this. Or it might be "because" they are in the midst of a server changeover. At least we know they are working on all this, so that's something.
I have the following problem: cannot play online with my friend who is in the same LAN, but in different segment (my IP begins with 10.15., his with 10.8.). Demigod tries to connect us but then says "Connection Failed". We can play via LAN game using a helper program like BattleLan (I suppose I will also be able to connect to him using GameRanger). I hope this will be solved with the introduction of proxy servers. It's minor issue for me as I don't have any problems when connecting to other players.
For me when I join a game I have ended up playing against only npcs, or playing with 1 person against npcs.Sometimes I am dropped from a game in lobby or right before actually playing the game.Randomly my ping, which is usually fine, will jump to 1000+. Initially it is fine, but after it has changed it usually won't go back.
Just an update on my situation - clicked multiplayer skirmish, tried to find me a game for a couple minutes and then it starts. Woohoo!
Logs me into a game with 7 AI i.e. ALL AI.
Why in heavens name does the game even do this?! Sigh.
I tried the Beta Version and it seems like the update didn't fix the connectivity problems I'm still getting the error about the NAT facilitator...
Edit: The same happens when trying to host a game. Sometimes not instant, but after another players tries to connect to me it usually happens. I've opened my ports - so that isn't the the reason...
