I see reports of "bad connectivity". But please understand, when we play the game with people online it works perfectly so we need to try to understand specifically what you're seeing.
So when you say "I can't get into a multiplayer custom game" for instance, what specifically do you mean?
Can you bring up the connectivity dialog? What does it say?
That kind of thing. The more you tell us, the quicker we can resolve it.
See http://forums.demigodthegame.com/347467 for where we're at.
Thanks!
I have been having an issue with playing in large games ever since I bought the game (23rd). What happens is my ping is 1500 or so making everyone elses jump. This only happens in a 3v3 and I know my connection can handle it. I have tried opening the ports and playing with different people even shutting everything down and doing a reboot with running demigod first.
I have a connectivity problem!
This means i can not connect to any game and nobody can connect to mine while i host.
All updates are installed automatically, so i dont think its a version mismatch.
I can tell, that i had already played online some time ago, and it was ok. But later on, some updates later, i could not connect at all, and now the problem stays
It does not crash or something, its just saying "attempting to connect" and thats it.
Sometimes i see in other player statuses, that they are alredy "connected" to me while i am still "attempting to connect".
I tried to connect to different players, from europe, US and Russia (I am from Moscow, Russia) - the result is strange - i can get to the game lobby for the US hosts (it states "proxied"), but dont connect to everyone, so i cant play. In all other cases i just cant connect at all
The game does not quit, it does not halt or any unhandled exceptions. Just no connection.
I just hope u'll remove this p2p crap and make it work on classic servers like L4D or WH4K2.
Thanx, and please post me a link to your answer to hungrycat2007@yandex.ru so that i would know that you answered me already
p.s. - my connection is cable, no adsl or anything, its cable, 10 Mbit/s. hadware - athlon x2 6000+, win xp sp3, mb on nf560 chipset, 256m gf8600gts video
Would be epic to see a router with a sticker ''Demigod capable'' or ''Certified for Demigod'' on its packaging box.
After it worked suddenly again, now it doesnt ....
AGAIN this damn NAT Error facilitator...
I think I posted in the wrong forum....anyway....
The computer drops the other players (or they drop me) and then the AI takes over. This happens a lot regardless of when I get online. Is this a problem on my end or on theirs (other players) ?
I also have had several fatal errors that have caused the game to stop working. I will copy the error down and post it later.
Ok let me restate that: Now it's every time I play, I get dropped. I am able to connect with players, get to the lobby, ready up, then when the game loads or a min or two after the Fight begins I get dropped every single time.
Game's great when it works. Network problems are horrible though.
Same issue mate! My system is definitely very capable to play Demigod, same as my internet.

Lets hope the upcoming proxy servers would work for me. I live in Asia so using the current proxy servers is impossible considering the fact I've read that they are only for players in America. Seen forum posts say that proxy servers for other regions of the world would be up in one of the next updates. Since I've already waited so long, no harm waiting on.
Originally I used a Netgear DG834N router. I have a 20 Mb downstream / 2 Mb upstream connection, and I didn't have any problem joining games and starting them. But each game I played there was massive lag, e.g. 0.5 second pause every 1 or 2 seconds.
I tried this several times as I thought it must be a problem with the other players, but it was the same each time. Only when people dropped out and so that it was 1 or 2 other human players did it play smoothly.
I've also got a Speedtouch 780 (Bethere router) that I had as a spare, so I just tried swapping that in, played one game and it didn't have the lag anymore! Perfect.
Has anyone else seen this before? I'd like to switch back to the Netgear if possible, is there a setting I can change? On both routes I have opened UDP ports 6100-6200.
I use a DG834, 1Mb connection, and have no lag at all.
I set mine to TCP.
Heyho,
Seems my problem is quite common:
"Cannot connect to NAT Facilitator"
Now, I KNOW there are numerous other posts about this, but I haven't found one that actually gives a working solution. But the most funniest thing is, how I "got" it. I was playing for a few days just fine, but had huge lags all along. I tried to find out why and read that I should turn of UPnP. So I did that.
Turns out that I get the message above. I turn UPnP back on, and the problem is still there. So since a few days, I keep fighting the suicidal AIs and searching for a solution. I have a D'link Router 524. Here's what I did so far:
* Added entries to Firewall and Router for Ports UDP 6000, 16000, 6073, 6100-6200. (PFPortChecker reports me that only 6000 is reachable, though)
* Tried to turn all Safety Programs and Protocols off, includig DMZ
* Ping to Stardock cvp Stuff works well, no packet loss
* Used the patched(!) version of that "Specify NAT Ports" gadget in the bin Folder
* Some also advice to set the router not to do a "Symmetric NAT", but turns out my router doesnt offer that option. In fact, I cant find anything about changing the NAT protocols of my router at all.
So... I BEG YOU gimme some advice! I loved playing online, even with the lags, and miss it so much. How could it suddenly stop working without having done anything that has to do (at least from my point of view / knowledge) with that NAT facilitator thingy?
Is it because my the ports other than 6000 are unreachable? Then why did it work before?
Arg...
The bug where some of us cannot play 3v3's due to massive ping spiking remains, as of 1.01. In the lobby, ping will be somewhere around 200 or so for me, but in game, it will jump to 1000+, rendering the game unplayable. This is not an upload speed problem.
i still get games where it doesn't connect at all. (Connection dialogue is stuck without finding/displaying any players)
However, this week was the first week where i actually got past the lobby and into a working game at all (since release).
So i must say i am at least somewhat delighted to finally have gotten to play at all. Keep up the good work LOL!
Same here.
I can play again, at least theoretically.
But 4 out of 5 Tries to get into a game fail because I cant connect to all of the players or no player at all.
Updated the game twice. Open my ports. Defraged and cleaned my registry. Update my video card....but alas still not working. I can connect with all the players, get into the lobby, ready up....but as soon as the game loads or right after, every single player leaves. So I assume I AM thePROBLEM?
Weehee. Another Update. What changed for me:
I cannot connect to ANYONE. Neither in Skirmish, nor Pantheon, nor Custom games.
But now I can see (NAT) or (Proxied) behind the names of the other players.
Again, I am doomed to play versus suicidal AI...
Why are going going a step back again? I was able to play and now I am not... again...
Hi Guys,
I join a costum game, then appears "connecting to players, please wait..." and then nothing happens until i quit, and this also at skrimish and if i host a game then nothing happened too.. :/
but 1 time i was getting in the multiplayer screen with the others, only 1 time of 28 times.
im sad to pay 50€

Hey mate. I have the same issue too. Looks like we're not alone. MANY players encounter this issue too, and no word from Stardock. I'm going to attempt to create a thread and gather all players with the same issue under one thread so the admins may have an easier time addressing this issue (if they are going to...).
I reported earlier that I had massive lag when using my Netgear DG834N router. I finally found what the problem was... there was something called SPI firewall enabled on the router. This has a UDP flood protection setting which I guess is meant to stop a UDP denial of service attack on me - but it was detecting the Demigod UDP packets as an attack, and probably blocking half or more of them.
I've disabled that now and was able to join and play very nicely.
I used /serverproxyonly today and was able to finally get into a real live game after waiting like 2 min for it to actually load up. BUT that was the ONLY time I was able to get on and play. Every other time I get into the game only to be dropped after like 10 seconds or dropped while the game is loading.
"A Player Has Left the Game" is something I hear in my dreams because I hear it so fucking much.
I find it funny that each time I try joining a 3 v 3 that I can connect to EVERYONE but the last guy to join.
My absolute favorite was today one where I connected to everyone but that last fellow couldn't complete his connection to me, and the people in the game blamed ME.. which I find funny as I was connected to HIM, he couldn't return the favor.
All the relavent ports are forwarded for both UDP and TCP for demigod 6000-7500 just to be safe.
I have 16mb down and 2 mb up ..
The Update today seems to change nothing.
On very rare occasion I can connect to all in custom games, most often some miss. Pantheon and Skirmish modes still aren't able to connect me to anyone, even after several minutes of trying.
Demigod disables my internet (network becomes Local only), normally during the first game I play. Last night it happened twice in a row.
2 friends of mine share an appartment. Both cant connect to each other when we try to play cooperatively. Each of them can join as long the other one hasnt joined first. The the one that joins last cant connect. The is in custom games.
Trying over here after I posted in the connectivity forum. I've opened all the required ports (6073 and 6100-6200 UDP), allowed Demigod through the Windows Firewall and I used the /serverproxyonly fix. I even tried DMZ. All to no avail. Every time I try an online match, I fail to connect to everyone. The funny thing is, they can connect to me fairly quickly.
Internet (ISP: KPN, Holland) -> Alcatel Speedtouch ADSL modem -> E-Tech RTBR01 Router -> My modest PC of epicness.
If there is a hardware-related cause, the router is the likely culprit. This thing is ANCIENT! I checked the firmware and it's from 2001. This baby doesn't have stuff like that shiny symmetric NAT or whizz-bang universal PnP you kids are all bragging about these days. It just blocks ports, that's it.
A minute ago, I've reinstalled the game from the disc, updated through Impulse, fired it up, logged in and joined a custom game with only one player. He connected to me, I didn't connect to him. I'm completely puzzled why I can't connect to people. I have no problems playing other games online, yet Demigod continually gives me the finger.
Here's the log:

I've run out of ideas and I hope you guys can help me. I'm considering less legal means to play online, because playing on my own seems, well... pointless.
