Basically, I go to start demigod and (sometimes it lets me go to the title screen, but most of the time) I get to the part where it would show the intro movie and my computer crashes and restarts, the screen goes black and it restarts. I click "check for solutions" and it tells me to update my display drivers (an ati 4800 series) which I already did and doesn't give me any other solutions. I really want to play this game!!!
Oh yah, and I bought the game... so helps pls?
::Update:: I tried it again, it got me in-game, loaded, I got to play for a few seconds (enough time forme to decide this game is awesome) and than the same thing happens (screen goes black and restarts, graphics driver update suggestion). I am on Vista (64) w/an ATI Radeon 4800 series card (yes the drivers are up to date)
Halp plox?
Is Demigod the only game that causes your computer to crash? What Power Supply do you have?
YEs this is the only game that causes this crash, I've ran Crysis, Source games (HL2, TF2, Portal), and most recently Sins just fine. But to be completely honest, I'm not sure what power supply I have. COuyld that be whats causing this? More than likely it's a stock HP power supply (this computer wasn't mine originally, I bought it off a friend who was going to Iraq).
No it's not your power supply since you can run even Crysis with no problems. Mind telling me exactly what video card you have though? I'm guessing a 4870 but I just want to make sure..
And you might want to try running it as administrator. (Right click -> run as administator )
It is a 4870 and I tried runnig it as administrator, I got further into the intro cinematic but the problem occured. Upon reboot, I found that it allows me into the game when I bypass the intro movie. It loads up a single player game, but as soon as I get a few seconds into playing it, the crash occurs. It usually happens right as soon as I move my character into battle. I really do appreciate your help man.
Can you give more info on the exact nature of the crash. I bought a 4870 a while back and had some problems with it where it would run some games and not others. when it crashed, i got either grey and black line, horizontal, down the screen, or a black screen, before my computer restarted. I eventually traced the fault to the RAM on my computer, and finally narrowed it down to a faulty RAM slot on my computer. it was ristricting access to a part of my RAM chip, and every time i tried to access that sector, the crash happened.
I am getting the black screen, how do I check my RAM slots? (running 3 1gig sticks)
Simply try having 1 RAM stick in at a time . Did your 4870 come with any additional software? Like some kind of overclocker tool etc?
Yes, i've installed it. I'll try the RAM thingy right no..... meh... I'll check back in alil bit and let yall know if it worked.
nothng, but I was checking out the ATI forums and it looks like this is a pretty common issue.
Dear Stardock,
DEMIGOD SUCKS it either gives a fatal error or screws up my computers booting system and either you fix it or im returning the game and will advise my friends that it is a piece of crap that is worthless i got it for my damn birthday today and i am UNSATISFIED!!!!!
Settle down thar partna, the game rocks!
I just fixed my problem 100% and now it's running fine! MY problem wasn't related to the graphics card at all. It was my sound of all things! I am using the onboard soundcard and for some reason it was crashing when I ran the sound at highest quality. Low quality and I havent had it crash yet. Go figure, I'm also able to play it online so I don't knowq what the fuss is about there! ROOK FOR LIFE
this may be of great help to me. Demigod crashes my system as well. Sometimes I can play a few multiplayer games but it will crash soon. Always a reboot. I too am running vista64bit, I have 6gbs of ram and soundblaster x-fi soundcard. I am going to attempt running the sound at the lowest quality. Well thats if I can get past the menu screen. Any suggestions?
ok so i just bought this game yesturday. I was able to play it all last night with no problem. When i went to play it today it got to the starting screen and told me there had been a fatal error and i was given the option to break into the debugger or abort the game. So i unistalled the game reinstalled it and it worked. I was able to play a few multi player games and a few single player games. I shut the game down and turned off my computer after a few houirs because i had to go out. When I came home i tryed to play again and got the same fatal error problem as before. This is extremley frustrating because i was able to play so i know how awesome the game is, but now i cant play at all. I dont want to have to unistall it and reinstall it every time i play. If someone knows a solution please tell me before i just return it. Thanks in advance.

If you having issues please post your hardware spec including driver versions:
Intel Quad Core Q9650 @3.0ghz8gB of Corsair RamASUS Nvidia 9800 GTX+Windows 7 RTM 64-bit (also tried Vista 64-bit)I'm currently using the NVIDIA driver included with windows version 8.15.11.8635 released on 7/7/2009. I'm going to try the latest driver from Nvidia and maybe the version from ASUS.
Also, make sure to run memtest 86+ (http://www.memtest.org/) and hot cpu tester (http://www.7byte.com/index.php?page=hotcpu) to make sure your hardware is good.
I was having the same issue, running an AMD phenom X4, 16GB Corsair DDR2 800Mhz ram, with 2x Geforce 9600 GSOs in SLi. EDIT: On Windows 7 RTM.
It obviously is not a system problem for me, nor is it a power problem, since I'm using 2x 800 watt PSUs, one of which is dedicated to the graphics cards.
I was only getting the issue when I was playing long games, and it would only happen after about 25 to 30 minutes.
I obviously had everything on max settings, but I remembered hearing somewhere that some shadow rendering can cause the issue.
I turned shadows down to low and played a game against 3 hard enemies. Took me about 45 minutes to finally destroy the citadel, but the game never blacked out once.
To anyone else with this problem are your shadows turned up to high? If so, turn them to low and post your results.
