Demigod Fails to Run (NOT COMODO/QUICKCAM ISSUE)

Found the silly way to run it. Weird but works:

 


Make a shortcut to demigod onto you desk top.

 

Move mouse over it.

 

Hold down enter.

 

Best thing for me so far. As soon as you see the screen pop up like it's started let go of enter or face the thread error of doom.

I'm having the same problem.  Windows XP SP3.  No logitech anything, and Comodo is shutdown and disabled at startup, and Windows firewall is disabled as well.

I had to do the desktop shortcut thing, and it made the Activation dialog pop up finally.  That never happened when I tried running it from Impulse or via the start menu shortcut.  So I enter my info to activate and it says this:

"The activation program could not communicate with the server.

This may be caused by a firewall blocking Internet access, please check your settings and network permissions.

Would you like to activate via another computer?"

 

So, I can't even get past the activation!  Never had this kind of problem with anything else in Impulse.

Update:  Went through the activation process here: http://www.impulsedriven.com/support/alternative_activation.aspx

The activation window doesn't pop up anymore, but the game still won't start.  Even doing the desktop shortcut trick, still get nothing except the occaisional prompt to ask if I want to debug using Visual Studio.

At first: sorry for my english.

 

I think i have a solution for this problem if you have a dual core CPU.

If you set the cpu affiliation of Demigod to just 1 CPU core it works fine.

All you need is the "imagecfg.exe" it's a Windows 2000 Server tool and works also with Windows XP and Vista.

You copy this programm either in the windows/system32 folder or in the demigod/bin folder (my favorite because i don't like copying things into my system32 folder).

Open a console (just hit Windows key + R and type cmd) and cd into the Demigod/bin folder. (for example: "cd c:\program files\Demigod\bin" - without the quotes)

!!!You may want to make a backup of your demigod.exe before next step!!!

Now type in "imagecfg -a 0x1 demigod.exe" (without the quotes) and hit enter.

The Game will now use just one CPU core (CPU 0) if you start it.

 

This worked for me and i hope it will help some of you too.

 

If you want the game to use all CPU cores again do the same with just 0x3 instead of 0x1 or just replace the demigod.exe with your backup.

 

My system spec:

Windows Vista 32bit SP1, Core2Duo E8200, Ati HD4670, 2GB RAM

No Logitech Software, COMODO Firewall active, Defense disabled

Bingo, that's got it (on my Core2Quad based PC at least).

 

I'm guessing the cause is something a little more complex than just having a multi-core processor as I can't see how that would have been missed during testing, but setting the affinity is a decent workaround for the moment

Tried the imagecfg.exe suggestion.  Still not working for me.

I'm having the same kind of problem, I launch the game and get nothing. I've tried spamming the run button in Impulse, creating a desktop shortcut, selecting it and holding down Enter, and thus far nothing has worked. I have Comodo and have disabled Defense+, using Dependency Walker gives me a missing MSS32.dll message. Was the Miles Sound System dll not included with the game? Latest sound and video drivers installed (8800 GTX, Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro). I'm running Vista Ultimate x64, SP1.

I downloaded MSS32.dll from http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?mss32, version is 6.6.7.0. Copied it into my game directory and just as the others on page 2 experienced, it's got the following missing functions:

_AIL_set_sample_buffer_count@8

_AIL_set_sample_channel_levels@20

_AIL_sample_buffer_info@24

_AIL_sample_buffer_available@4

_AIL_init_sample@8

I've tried deleting sig.bin as well. also a no-go.

So I wound up completely uninstalling COMODO in my process of troubleshooting and afterwards it worked. So disabling Defense+ alone apparantly wasn't enough. It had nothing to do with the mss32.dll file or not having certain functions apparantly. I am having problems with crashing (video card stops responding) about every other match, but that's a different issue.

I've tried completely shutting down Comodo and disabling it at startup, then rebooting, and it still won't run.  I'm not sure how uninstalling it would make any more of a difference.  If it's not running it shouldn't be interfering with anything.  Others have the game running with Defense+ just disabled, so I'm thinking that that isn't the real issue.  There may be more than one issue preventing it from running, but I haven't found any workaround that gets it to even run once so far.

I too am having problems getting it to run.  No logitech cam or the other thing metioned.  Running XP Pro with all the latest patches and IE 7 fully updated.

 

I have been having this problem since a few betas ago and thought I'll just wait until the game comes out because they will fix a bug this obvious right?  Guess I was wrong....

Same issue here. 

 

Win XP SP3

NVidia GeForce 7800 GTX with 6.14.11.8250 driver version.

2.81 GHz AMD

2 GB RAM

 

All other helps exhausted.

 

Spamming the 'Run' button on the ImpulseNow about 100+ times rapidly makes the game work. 

 

Hopefully a fix will comes out!

Same issue here;

 

Win XP SP3

Nvidia 8800 320mb

E6400 core 2 duo

2gb RAM

6.14.0011.8208 Nvidia drivers.

 

Can only get the game working by spamming the run button. 

 

Pretty annoying stuff guys.... shouldn't have to trawl support forums just to START the game.

Okay people, based one what I've learned, Demigod is affected by browser addons and such. Things such as google toolbar will cause the game to fail to run. I'm guessing spamming the run button works because whatever is modifying the game can only modify the first copy of the game running, so when you spam it enough two will run at the same time, the first one will get caught up by google toolbar or whatever, and the second manages to run just fine.

Don't have any browser addons installed for IE7 since I mostly run Firefox (v3.0.8).  It's always shut down when running the game though, so I don't see how those could even be running.

Just confirmed that Google Desktop was the culprit. After an uninstall and reboot, my friend no longer has any issues loading the game.

Guys, this definitely works.

I've tried to unistall Google Desktop and Demigod starts perfectly at first time. Unbelievable!

I don't have google desktop installed... but I once did. Let me try and make sure it properly uninstalled itself. 

edit: it was still there! bleh. Uninstalled it and demigod starts just fine now.

Nice detective work

 

Hopefully the Devs can fix the Google Desktop conflict because it is a handy program to have.

I believe there are some OEMs that re-brand Google Desktop as their own Desktop Enhancement application.  Check for any apps like this with similar functionality that are OEM branded (HP, Acer, etc.)

Please download the following file:

Thanks a ton Stardock.  Demigod's release was pretty bumpy but the post-release support has been very good.
