I heard that stardock "fixed" the favorite links background feature in skinstudio, so i decided to install WindowBlinds+SkinStudio on vista.
First of all I'm very disappointed about the "fix" which still keeps me from completing the popular Glass for Vista style (the only reason i and many other people i know would even use WindowBlinds on vista
http://www.upload.ee/image/42231/epicfail.png
Not only that, SkinStudio\WindowBlinds still cannot change MANY font related parts in the UI, especially Start search text type in startmenu. Even though WindowBlinds is 3rd party software, Vista's msstyles (using Vista Style Builder) is way more powerful and has more possibilities which WB doesn't have IMHO.
That concludes the RANT part, now for the real problem:
I tried uninstalling and wiping everything i installed with impulse, BUT - I cant seem to uninstall WindowBlinds, every time i click uninstall (no matter if from impulse or control panel), impulse starts using 99% CPU and does practically nothing. I tried uninstalling Impulse and then uninstalling Windowblinds, and what do I get - OMG YOU NEED IMPULSE TO UNINSTALL THIS PRODUCT, WANT TO VISIT THE WEBSITE?
WTF? My pirated WindowBlinds copy on XP had it's own uninstaller and i didn't have to use crap like impulse and everything was fine.
So PLEASE, tell me how to get rid of WindowBlinds on vista once and for all, and i want a clean uninstall, deleting program files wont work.
P.S. Impulse is the SLOWEST digital delivery system i used, I would get faster download speeds downloading your software from torrents! Also the program UI itself seems buggy, unnecessarily bloated and slow.
Sincerely, a extremely unhappy stardock software user.
Additional info:
WindowBlinds is legal (and thats probably the cause of all problems with this)
Reinstall the most current Impulse client from here: Impulse Client - Full to start with.
Then uninstall WB. If it fails, close Impulse and restart. Click on the ? in the upper right and open the log.
Post the last few notices.
Also, post teh WB system info from it;'s config.
Lastly, if you thing WB isn't skinning something or SKS isn't, post a screenshot of teh fail, and a link to the skin. Many skins are not Vista ready and that has nothing to do with WB.
I reinstalled impulse at least twice from the website, still nothing. When i click uninstall it just hungs and shows this: http://www.upload.ee/image/42258/impulsewtf.png EVERY TIME

Good thing you included a bug tracker

As for SKS thing, I think my previous screenshot demonstrates how much of FAIL it is, Favorite links is not transparent, fonts CANNOT have a blurred shadow, the shellstyle titles (grey ones) cant be changed and so on. Also it's my own personal skin http://fediafedia.deviantart.com/art/Glass-for-Vista-WB-102838445 which cant be completed due to all these ridiculous limitations. Why include a glass client area if favorite links cant be transparent?
Are you running Impulse as an admin? Have you tried right-clicking and running that way?
I'm not a skinner so I can't address that part of yoru complaint.
I have UAC disabled, but okay.
Edit: Same result
Will try installing that full impulse client
U sure do whine a lot.. Uninstall WB.. then use an app like Regseeker to search you registry for anything named windowblinds, skinstudio and stardock.
While I'm at it, your themes are also riddled with bugs.. so lets not throw stones in our glass house mate
Oh wow, I'm here with a complaint about buggy software and you mention the quality of my skins, says much about this forum.
Email support@stardock.com and they may be able to assist you further.
As an aside, did you or do you have any other skinning technologies running on that PC?
Just tried installing the full client, ran as admin, tried to uninstall and it just does nothing, only this time doesn't load the CPU, tried clicking 3 times btw, nothing.
No error log, the last entry is:
-- [05/04/2009 02:35:41] ----------------------------------------------------Context: Updating ApplicationList XML: myofficeMessage: Updated network xml did not have expected revision (retrieved 0 / expected 1)Build #: 981
Heh.. I'm not support bro.. just a citizen calling it like I see it.
How in the world is that related to the uninstall problem? Also the limitations i pointed out are common in each and every skin, including this one http://vstyler.deviantart.com/art/Vienna-3-Rapture-87691124
Font problems in the shellstyle are more than obvious, so much for "top quality"
Don't use it then Actually, I'd rather you didn't
Your worried about a couple of small issues (that are more than likely system specific to your PC) while you produce skins with many more significant bugs?
Sounds to me like your just in it to complain.. ...I could be wrong I suppose
...and I'd ban your ass for that comment alone, better head on back to DA and promote warez some more... it's not tolerated around here.
I won't, that skin is wayyyy to bloated complicated for me. The fact that your text is unreadable is "just a small bug", i call it the factor that makes your skin unusable. But back to the point - you would change it if it wasnt for the limitations huh? Point is - SkinStudio cant change it.
Promiting warez? I can't seem to find the link i posted to that specific "warez" thing here
Said what I'm going to.. I'll just say a poor attitude won't get you far.. thats all..
You take care now y'hear
Thanks a lot for all of your useless and offtopic replies, I see now how stardock forum members like you treat people who face problems AND payed for your buggy software. Good thing I didn't (a nice person donated it), never will, and will never recommend anyone to buy it.
Did you try unloading windowblinds first===then uninstalling it??
Of course, but nevermind, after spending so much time trying to uninstall it i decided to just delete program files...
Thanks for trying to help, unlike some people i know here.
There are two other options for uninstalling WindowBlinds or any other Stardock apps. One is Stardocks own zapper which you can find a link to on this thread. LINK The other ,which I recommend for uninstalling anything is Revo uninstaller. It has never failed me and does a safe, thorough job. LINK
P.S. You won't make many friends here with this statement "My pirated WindowBlinds copy"
Oh my god, the first useful post. Thank you for solving my problem!
P.S. I'm not here to make friends I'll probably never post here again.
Glad you got the problem resolved.
Wizard is right.
Also you shouldn't delete a program by deleting the folder on programs files. Really not a good idea.
Well you can also on impulse right click on any soft installed and select verify install if the install is a bad install then an update will show up (you need to have the "show prerelease version" enable i guess.
Install this update (even if it's the same date files) it'll reinstall the product.
If it still doesn't work then you should uninstall the product BUT:
the right way is that one: (no it's not cause of Stardock but MS windows that suck on install and uninstall)
1°/ quit any processus that use the programs (safely from taskbar not from taskmanager use it at last end)
2°/ launch impulse (or at least add/supp programs from windows panel for other products) select the product to uninstall and wait til the uninstall is finished.
3°/ REBOOT even if it's doesn't ask you to do it
4°/ launch a programs to clean your cache/cookies temp files and registry like ccleaner for eg
5°/ i'd say reboot again
6°/ reinstall
7°/ Reboot
8°/ Enjoy
If not try Wizard told you but keep in mind MS is a pain so you must reboot after each time you install or unsinstall programs
Bye
