Hi! everyone, I have a simple question, what was the first PC game that you have played and loved?
For me it was Dune 2: The Building of a Dynasty.
It was way back in 1993 (cant believe its been already 16 years) on my IBM 486 with all 4MB of ram. Since that time I have played over a 100 PC games, but I was wondering what was other people's gaming debut. Feel free to elaborate on the subject (what year, at home, at a friend, how much you paid).
Battlechess was the first one I played.
TFX and Rebel Assault were the first ones I owned.
My first LAN game was DOOM, first online MP game was TFC.
My first PC game that I remember best would have to be Age of Empires 2.
>.> Sorry....
QoT is just evil and manipulative like that.. I couldn't help it..
Rats! Thought I'd be the first person to mention Castle Wolfenstein on the Apple II+ (plus). We used to sneak playing it in our high school's computer lab, along with Sea Dragon and a few others I can't remember. If you got caught playing games in the lab, you'd be banned for a week. The lab computers had a word processor called Wordstar on them that used an 80-character wide surface. The only problem was the screens could only display 40 characters, so you had to scroll all around your document. We printed everything out on daisy wheel printers.
My first game ever was the old Pong system, too. My buddy had the old TRS (we called them Trash)-80 with the tape (recorder) drive. I have no clue what we played on it but we thought it was cool. I also remember some text based adventure game, but forgot what it was called. In college our dorm ran its message board off of a Commodore 64 and kept their records on the old IBM 8086 PC. One of my friends one night went back into the room where the PC was kept and "accidentally" typed 'Format C'. He spent the next week recreating everything that was erased after he formatted the hard drive.
Sadly (or maybe not!) Company of Heroes - original. I only started gaming in 2007!
I can't remember the exact game, but it'll have been at the same time as i used to play 'James Pond' on the amiga 500+
First boxed game I asked to have bought= The Secret of Monkey Island
Omg.. I actually do remember! It was a game called, 'Kabul Spy'. This game caused me and my dad fits. You would see a 2D picture of a 'locale' supposedly in Kabul and it was your basic, hit 'N' for north, hit 'L' for look around etc. This one was hecka hard though. We always got caught in this one particular bar and coudlnt solve past it. Good times!
(This was so far back, that I remember making my first 'program' in basic for my dad and squealed for joy when my dad sat down at the computer to be prompted with: "Hello, what is your name?" He types in 'John'. The program replies with: "Hello John" in blinking letters. I clapped and jumped up and down and said.. "look dad!, I made it blink" isn't it cool? )
does commodore 64 count? if so then bards tale and echelon not long thereafter.
on mac, first might and magic, first sim city (mac classic, system 6.07, awesome computer)
I didn't actually buy an x86 pc until 2004, so my first PC game was bloodrayne
We had a Texas Instruments computer when I was a kid for a while, it was TI81 or something, that was an interesting system, had a keyboard and a cartridge slot. I remember a defender like game and a bunch of others...My mother was selling them (in the same way people sell tupperware and mary kay, if any of you remember that stuff) so we had a bunch of games. I can't remember them though, most of them were pretty bad.
Speaking of pinball, anyone remember Pinbal Construction Set? It was so cool and one of the first games I really got into.
Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego.
battlefield 1942 (with expasions) (drools) god i love that game, i still play it but usually with some mods
First game I ever played: 7 Cities of Gold for the Commodore 64.
First game I ever bought: Master Of Magic (Still one of the best games ever).
Started with an Atari 2600, pitfall i thinks was First with console... Then Barn Storming. then some Bruce lee movie knock off... Ah the memories... Progressed to a 386, had various F1 and 500cc games. Most Loved was f19 Stealth Bomber and Original Prince of Persia (in 2D). Now I can't get enough of Sins of a Sole Empire, Dawn of War franchise and any Rts's.
*brain starts to rattle and puff smoke and all*
I can't remember the name of the game, but I do remember how it went. You were a bunny and had to eat all the carrots. It was a puzzle game. Eventually, you had rocks sitting on the carrots, rolling down when the carrot was eaten.
It's a bit vague, I know, but hell, I was 2 or 3 years old 0.o 'Then how can you remember this game?'
I've played it a LOT with my father, weird idea that he used to be a game addict as well lol. I've played the game a few more times, but I can't remember the name. The original was on DOS though and I think it was around 1993 that I've played it
Bloody Descent.... it was the first time i remember wanting to throw the whole computer out with the kitchen sink....and starting a riot in the suburbs...
The first game I've played was Simcity 3000.
God, I love that series.
The first pc game I had played and loved was half life 2. Before then I was just a console gamer but after it I was a console and pc gamer.
I remember playing a BASIC game called "42" when I was just a toddler... it had to be somewhere around '85-'86... That's definitely the oldest I can concretely remember
-Gonzo
I would have to say that it was the old Ghostbusters and Transformers games my dad had on the Commodore 64.
Escape from Castle Wolfenstein
Commander Keen
The Bard's Tale
A-10 Tank Killer !!!
Starflight
Digger!!!
First game I remember playing: Total Annihilation (late 1990s)
First MMORPG I ever played: Planet Hot Wheels (late 1990s)
First non-MMO I ever played online: StarCraft: Brood War (2003 or 2004)
Damn, I'm getting old! First game played was prince of persia 1, and indianapolis 500, together with F-117 stealh, all good and old games, I miss that time...
I'm not entirely sure, I probably have played a few games earlier than these, but I can't remember them or their names (doubt I even knew the names at the time...):
MoM Beta (yes, I had the beta. Then I lost it, and avoided the game for years till I understood that what I always played was the beta version and everyone had the release version)
Betrayal at krondor/Return to krondor.
I'm not sure my first game. We had some pacman games and rip offs (I had a really awesome pac-man I wish I could find that has enemies other that ghosts. It has spiders on the 1st stage, sharks on the 2nd, and ghosts on the 3rd. Never got past that stage as a kid. Pac-man had different death animations for each one too, the shark would come out of the water and grab pac-man. There was blood and everything. I miss that game)
We also had an old star trek game based I think on the next generation series. (you pressed 'p' for phasors and 't' for photon torpedos. I remember thinking the stardocks looked nothing like deep space nine) Or maybe it wasn't... now that I think about it I think you fought klingons, which would make it original series. you could shoot photon torpedoes into stars to set certain quadrents supernova.
Lastly, we had this gorilla game (that many people apparently played) where you throw exploding bananas an each other.
I wish I could say Scorched Earth and Commander Keen were my first games, but I know for a fact I got them from my neighbor, unlike the other games that "came with the computer" from my uncle (it had the "new" windows 3.1 on it and a 16MB hard drive. It kicked a lot of butt) I remember playing all of them about the same time though. There was another game "cosmo" I played a lot too. And "moria" which was really hard.
The first PC game I remember playing was Death Rally. Loved that game. After that it was Diablo.
