Im trying to play it and i get an error telling me to make sure Direct x 9 (I think) is installed and that i do not have hardware acceleration disabled, and that my system can support the game...I dont know how to find number 2 and trust me, I've looked. Number 3 is moot (my system can definitely handle the game: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000 3.1 GHz, 8 gigs of RAM, Geforce 9600 GT 1Gig) so I think the problem is the first one. How do I check to see if Direct x is installed? I cant seem to find it anywhere, so maybe it isnt but i remember installing it...

There is more to this issue though. I get the exact same thing. Q6600, 8800GTS 1GB, 4GB RAM, Vista 64.
It tells me the exact same message and i know i have up to date drivers and i have DX 10.
The game still asks for DX 9c, and even after installing it, it still does not recognize it.
JJBuck2, are you also on Vista 64?
Maybe this is a 64Bit issue or a Vista Issue, the game runs fine on my XP 32 machine........
Vista does come with DirectX 10, but it DOES NOT come with optional DX9 components that nearly every game requires.
I know this, thats why i installed it. I have 9xC and 10 installed. Game still does not play.
I'm thinking it could be a 64 issue, anyone else seen this?
I had the same issue, but when I downloaded the patch for C&C3, it fixed it. Might want to try that if you haven't already.
I havent tried to see if it works but yeah Neilo, i have vista 64. Ill let you all know if this fixed it. @ Neilo, the EA download thingy that comes with the game might do the trick. I actually let it update last night, so we'll see if that fixes it.
People still try to play games without the latest patch?

Ahhh well done Epic!. Why i had never patched the game is beyond me, and why i didn't think to try that as a fix even more so.

@Savyg. I don't allways patch games. If my gaming experiance is fine with the version i have then i see no reason to change that.
Different strokes for different folks mate.......
I consider it preventative maintenance. The patched versions almost always work better so it makes the game more fun, so might as well. Kinda like people install Windows security updates not because they expect they'll be attacked, but because they know if they are they'll have a lot more problems than are worth having.
But hey, I'm not likely to change your mind. Just seems silly to me.
I see your point and granted you make plenty of sense. But i have seen plenty of time where the patch has brought more issues and instability then the previous version.
Untill my game play is affected, i tend to wait. I do patch at some point, just not straight away.
