Starcrock today just announced the next in its series of expansions to Sins of a Solar Empire- "The Mini-dump strikes back", or also known as "Encrashment".
Encrashment empowers the minidump as a new race and gives up completely trying to remove its pressence in the code and establishes it as a whole new race. Instead of raiding gravity wells, and nuking planets it just bombs the entire game. Talk about power.
New capitol ships by the minidump race include but are not limited to "Windows Malfunctioner", "Vista Run-not", and many others.
Abilities included "Drain Memory", "Wreck OS", and "Annoy".
Look for it soon, and enjoy!
This was just plain mean.
ahh come on, they may annoy, but they do not totally ruin the game
ps: i got vista and it runs awsome
I have not had one mini-dump since it came out of beta, sucks to be you I suppose.
Y'know, the support email isnt there just to look pretty..It has its uses..like..making the Game work? Respectful and timely support? So use it. Remember that next time you get attacked by a "Windows Malfunctioner"
^I do use it, and was given the reply that a new patch is due out soon.
Suppose it will be the starbase of the new race "Update patch version" with new features like "Reinstall", and "Unplayable customs maps"
I have Vista too, and it runs, but the minidumps have gotten me upset a few times. Mainly happens in online games. Send my dumps to tech support when they occur, but just was trying to make light of something that is rather annoying if you play online and drop out in the midst of a rather good game.
Take a poll....see how many people it actually occurs to. Maybe people blame the drops for this reason but it actually occurs....still.
I keep minidumping but that's probably due to mods, anyway, I couldn't stop laughs for at least five minutes
Thank you...it was meant to shed light and add humor to what seems to be the the most annoyning part of online play.
I don't play mods, just vanilla and entrench.
seriously....how much do you play and do you get minidumps? Do you play online or just off?
I play online and off, rarely get minidumps, and only got one online, in the last month or so
and i play mods alot too
Seems random...and no I'm not playing online but in local with my friends and singleplayer.
With Celestial Bodies and Volumetric Explosions mods (tried also with or without bailknight's effects) we got a dump in the first 5 minutes of play.
In single is much more stable to me but keeps dumping, crashing and whatnot often..it gave even a bsod pair of times
See I play online alot, and get one daily. I just thought that since it seems to be a persistant problem with most regular online players it was centered around online play. I can't put my finger on it but suspect that it occurs when you have multiple races going for various defensive structures ( mainly mines it seems).
Tech support is awesome and does reply rather quickly. But when i pay money for a game I expect it to be flawless, or have a fix. I just would love to have 100% confidence in the game I invest time and money into.
My 2 cents. And to the people who find this offensive, then all I can say is may the minidump pwn you someday...it is super powerful.
he he he
Nothing is ever perfect, I have my complaints, i got my mindumps and don't realy care. an besides the tech support of this small company is 100 times better than other games
Methinks you should temper your expectations in the future. Nothing in life is ever flawless. These minidumps you get, do you email them to Iron Clad?
Hey guys during the beta and after I had lots of crash and opimization problems. Once the full entrenchment release came I was still having issues so I removed one of the ram cards from my machine and boom - no more problems. Make sure you ram is all the same speed - might save you a big headache
I've also noticed that if the game uses beyond one cpu, sometimes it minidumps, changing some graphical setting will prevent the game from either crashing or minidumping
I've had ONE minidump. EVER. During a late beta release of entrenchment.
Perhaps some people should have a gaming-only rig (or at least a gaming only partition)... I rarely see any game crash since I've gone this route...
thats very true, when I built my computer over one year ago, I intentionally built it as a gamming computer with space to expand hardrives, memory and graphics
PS: Forgot to mention > o crashed unless I put crap in while modding.
No worries. They keep chenging the post title due to the fact it maybe is hurting sales of entrenchment. If you play for a long time you are bound to get one of the new races.
Again I do send in my minidumps, and a new patch was promised.
I don't really mind it so much other than the fact that I do surpass the minimum requirements and this game was sold under the windows vista friendly logo.
If you make a game and it crashes on occasion then I understand, but play online and see what the ratio is and you will get a clue to why only 200 people play at a time.
This is an attempt to get a few laughs, but if anyone is listening at starcrock then I made my point. It is funny, but not really. Long live the minidump.
ever since I got updated to patch 1.12 I never had a mindump since including entrenchment even the beta, I gues I just got lucky
i've never mini-dumped once in any release version of Sins or Entrenchment. fix your computer in my opinion.
Have know some mini dump... with map having 10 star and more that 500 planets... with a fleet having more that 15000 ship... or at the very begin, when Sins was launched due to a bad Nvidia driver ( problem was on the Nvidia side )...
For the majority of people, Sins work good... for a few, with problem, devs work on it... not long time ago, a sync bug was resolved, only a few people was having these bug revelead... don't forget that Sins is around one year old... and in one year, alreay a lot of thing was fixed... take a look at the change log of all sins version... it is a huge amount of work...
In the readme.txt from sins, you can read :
* If you're using Windows Vista, you MUST have speakers or headphones plugged in or thegame will crash.* Folding@Home will cause the game to crash. Please exit the Folding application before playing.* If you have a USB Missile Launcher, please detach it before playing the game or it willcrash the game.
My turn to add something to these list... if you have a phenom multicore processor and your are using Vista, you will maybe not have enough power for the game... solution is to downgrade to XP or upgrade to the Phenom II... why ?

In theory, the AMD design made sense. If you were running a single threaded application, the core that your thread was active on would run at full speed, while the remaining three cores would run at a much lower speed. AMD included this functionality under the Cool 'n' Quiet umbrella. In practice however, Phenom's Cool 'n' Quiet was quite flawed. Vista has a nasty habit of bouncing threads around from one core to the next, which could result in the following phenomenon (no pun intended): when running a single-threaded application, the thread would run on a single core which would tell Vista that it needed to run at full speed. Vista would then move the thread to the next core, which was running at half-speed; now the thread is running on a core that's half the speed as the original core it started out on.
This is only a example who show that a top machine can be slow when some conditions are meet... devs cannot test a game on all the hardware/software configuration who exist... Since sins was out, we have know problem with Nvidia driver ( fault was at the nvidia side ), problem with Vista ( Vista have release a KB who help the performance problem for sins and several other game, keep your system updated ), problem with Phenom processor and Vista running single-threaded application ( sins is mainly one core application, problem is processor )... so, already a few case where Stardock is not responsible...
Now, if some of you have problem with sins, in place of simply complain... maybe together, you can push Stardock to use a Bugzilla like system ( posting on forum don't really give a clear idea of problems ) where people are able to put detailed info over the problem, their material, their driver, directx, etc... a bug tools will help the devs to see pattern in some case, see how much people are affected by the problem and give priority to some of them, etc...
Yes, sins is not perfect but they work on it... i simply thing that they miss some organization related to bug report... and that several of the people only complain without given enough information about the problem... why not download the dev exe ( who is free ) and use it during game... once crashed/mini-dump, simply zip it and send it to stardock ( or if you was using a mod, to the responsible of the mod )... the dev exe log everything, from the start to the crash, this in plain text... I think that the vanila sins engine have a debug mode too...
Lefamaster, by the way, your original post was fun... i have good laught... i like humor...
I actually ran that while I played vanilla sins, though it did not crash, with entrenchment it did.
Yes I also love the humor
